i have 512 dl and 256 ul, and it runs fine on unreal championship 2003, project gotham 2 and rainbow six 3, and on rainbow i can host up to 8 people without lag, so I am guessing it will be similar. Your connection should be fine.

Even if that wasn't enough you could always join games and not host.

There is no "minumum upload speed". If you have high speed internet (cable, DSL, T1) then you can play Live. I myself have Comcast cable and it works fine, i can only host a game of 8 people max, but for playing in other servers its fine.

If you plan on hosting games, you should have a T1 connection, otherwise you wont have enough upload to host a big game. Maybe you will be able to host 10, but thats it.

T1 is not the fastest internet connection, though it is fast. T3 is obviously faster. There's the college network Internet2, however, which is many, many times faster than T3.

Technically, you could use Xbox Live with 56k, but only to download content. It would take about an hour to download a map, I think.

And for those wondering: satellite internet will not work with Xbox Live. You could hook it up to the Xbox and network to your PC, but the latency would be horrible. You could download maps much faster than 56k, though, which is what I'm thinking about trying. I'll pay the yearly fee to download a couple of maps. I'll let you all know how it goes. :)
