Specs?
When does the error come up?
Have you installed it before?
Do you have the correct CD key?
Are you sure you uninstalled the old copy?
Is this a real copy?

This is what it said, actually.
Halo setup encountered a disk error while writing to the file F:/Program Files/Microsoft Games/Halo/halo.exe. Make sure you hard disk is not full, and that the file is not in use.

Same thing happened to the second-in-command lieutenant in my clan. I went over to his house to delete all known traces of Halo, and then tried reinstalling again. It worked.

Go to your search prgram in your Start Menu, and type in "halo". If there is any, all your old files will show up, stuff that wasn't successfully uninstalled. Delete them all (including the folders it was contained it), and then try reinstalling.

Tell us your specs. Also, try restarting your computer and then installing it.

Do you have it installed another computer?

Btw, don't double post. There's an edit button, thank you.

Screw the edit button. I double post whenever the hell I want.

Do that and get your ass blacklisted, see if we care. Follow the forum rules, thank you.

Check the condition of the disk; is it scratched? Dirty? Fingerprints all over it? If so, clean it, get rid of the scratches, etc. and try again. A damaged disk may be the problem here.

You got me there. It's pretty damn dirty. I just tried to wash it, and nothing came off. How do you toothpaste CDs?

YOU WASHED IT?!

You should never let your disks go into contact with any kind of liquid substances, especially water, soda, juice, etc. You ruined it now, and if you ended up "toothbrushing" the darn thing, you might as well save up 20-30 bucks and buy a new one.

You use a fine, clean piece of cloth, and your breath moisture (not your spit, it's important to NOT spit on any kind of disks), to gently wipe everything off your CD. But, like I said, your CD's already ruined.

Very wrong. Toothpaste does in fact repair scratches. Water won't harm the disk unless you leave it soaked for a while, or stick it wet in a drive.

Sticky liquids will ruin it, but not water.

OMFG, CTFD FTLOG!

Seriously, did he say he soaked that sucker in water? When he says, "washed" maybe he meant he used a liquid like alcohol, which is fine for disks.

How to fix a scratched CD.

you can buy chemicals for cleaning cds which work quite well

I recommend using hydrochloric acid, it will not only dissolve any dirt or remove any scratches, it will in fact dissolve the disk itself!

Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time. I know who you are. You are destiny.

*soaks disk in hydrochloric acid*

Well that solves my problem. Now I don't have a disk to worry about!

Add me to your friends list if you haven't already. It's a lot more fun to play with people from The Maw and people I know than random noobs.

Try soaking it in beer.

Try soaking it in beer.

I recommend Samuel Adams, or Budweiser, as they give the CD a bronze like color. Don't ask me how I found that out.

^^^^LOL! Someone should sig that.

Aren't there some wierd CD "things" that you can put in your drive that will clean the drive? I think I saw one once at shopko or something.

Yeah, but seriously Halo PC is like 20 bucks. It won't hurt you too much to go buy another copy. (That's probably what I'd do if you've tried cleaning it and it still doesn't work)
