Subject: Spell Checker?

If you're like me, a lot of the time, you'll type up a post, or a reply, only to find that two seconds after you hit the Submit button, you catch a typo! So then you have to hit the Edit Post button after posting it, edit it, and hit Submit again. It's annoying, it's time consuming, and some people give you a lot of crap over a simple typo.

So, why not add a built-in spell check feature?

I'm not saying make it like submitting news, when there's Microsoft Word built in to making posts, because that would take an extra two, three minutes just to make one. But just add a "Spell Check" button in there somewhere. So it will scan for any errors quickly, and highlight them, perhaps. I don't think it should go as far as to try and change them, because that would make it too sophisticated and complex for a simple internet forum, but enough to fix it. That's how I'd like it. Simple, yet useful.

We could replace the Cancel button with this. Because, why do we really need a Cancel button? Is there not a Back button on our browsers?

Discuss.

There are a plethora of third-party spell checkers out there. Use those, like I do.

Get Firefox.

Which I have. I just use Safari because it's faster. You're forgetting that there are people who do not have Firefox.

But this would be built-in to the website, so we wouldn't need any of those.

But it's free, so what's stopping them?

Maybe their computer can't run it? Maybe they don't like it? There's a lot of reasons.

Either get firefox or the google task bar. Both have a spell-check feature. But in a sense I do agree with you. A spell check feature on this site would be quite nice.

Safari was the first ever browser to have the built-in Google toolbar. Then Firefox came along with it.

I know the new Firefox has the spell check feature, but this would be for anyone who doesn't have or use Firefox on a regular basis.

The problem with a spell checker on Bungie.net would be the different spellings of the same words.

Example
American spelling
Color
Gray

Canadian Spelling
Colour
Grey

So unless there could be a way to set your language, I wouldn't use it. As for making it work, well I don't think the Web Team wants to add three or four dictionaries from different countries (American, Canadian, British and Australian) to Bungie.net.

Safari has a built in Spellchecker. Type in a word that's spelt wrong, command-click it, go to the spelling option, and use "Check spelling as you type".

And I think every browser has a spell checker, or a downloadable one.

Hey you saw my sig! :)
Their was a time when this was under a post. Simpler times; no Halo 3 Forum and no search. Simpler times. Happy about search though.

Really? I had no idea.

By the way, I know this is totally off-topic, but I love Dead Like Me.

<----Gets along fine without any spellchecker besides self.

There are some words that would still be misused and common grammar mistakes. I don't mind a mistake here and there as long as they are not speaking only in Net-speak. This isn't a college mid-term paper after all.

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

This is another feature that I'd like to see here, but I don't think its necessary. Would it be easier to type a post and press a button to have it spell checked? Of coarse. But would it be worth the web teams time to code and implement it? No, we can always use a browser or a 3rd party spell check.

And, If Bungie made a spellcheck, I wonder how they would mess with it. I'm sure "Frankie" would always have a Shishka hearts before it or something to that effect. Who knows what else it would do. Like random "your mom" generator whenever you typed in "sucks"? IDK.

Become the hunter.

I don't think its necessary, I just look over the post before I hit the submit button if I'm worried about typos. Plus there is so much incorrect english intentionally used such as leet and other intended typos, that it would be annoying.

Well, simply before you submit either check it over, or hit Spell Check.

It's not that time consuming to hit "Edit Post" and fix your Spelling or Grammar errors.

Use ieSpell. It's really good.

You download it and just right click and click on "Check Spelling" while you are using IE (Internet Explorer). And when it checks the spelling it shows you which words are misspelled and asks if you want to add the word into the vocabulary or change it.

Simple.

by the way, i'm taking a break from the group, i have to go take a s'hit.

Hit the 'preview' button, if you're worried about misspelling a word, and read it before you submit it.

I'm surprised no one has said this yet.
