Ok, so we all know there are a bunch of inactive groups out there. The 3 member requirement is one way to combat this, but I personally think it's ineffective. I simply want to propose two changes to groups, and see who agrees:

* Reduce the deletion warning from 60 days to 30 days. A month is plenty, and if it takes someone that long to get 3 members, their group obviously isn't going anywhere.

* As well as requiring 3 members in order to exist, I think it would be beneficial to detect whether anyone has accessed, or posted in, a group's forum. I'm thinking, if nobody has done either in the past week/fortnight, the group gets deleted.

In my opinion, this would help clean up the place and get rid of "those" groups. Also, I reckon it would encourage people to take care of their group by posting in it, inviting people to it etc, and improve the quality of the many chapters here on b.net.

Tell me what you think.

I think some of that is a little strict. I think sixty days is fine as it is. I personally, on the other hand, would like to increase the amount of members to say, five. Or even better, se7en.

As for inactivity, a week or two is a bit low. I'd go for a month or two before putting in an auto-delete.

I agree completely with both. Two months to acquire two members? If you can't do that then you're wasting time.

As for the latter, I'm not sure it'd work, but worth a shot.

I also think it should be five members, not three.

I don't know. I've created a group devoted to reporting forum trolls, and it would probably fall under the category of your auto-deletion, despite the good purpose it serves.

Well, you have four members. You wouldn't have anyone at least check the forum during a 2-week period?

I don't understand. If there are so few members in whatever group and nobody is bothering to check it out, what harm is it causing other than occupying a name and a little memory on the Bungie servers? I agree that sixty days is a long time, but I can't see a real problem. Please elaborate.

As you say, they've taken a name that someone else, who can be bothered to work on a group, might want. You also mentioned a little memory - I don't claim to know much about this stuff, but surely all those "little bits of memory" must add up.

Good to see at least somebody takes this place seriously

I am sincerely disappointed in everyone except JIMH. JIMH, have a gold star.

They don't take up that much space, so why does it matter? Even if no one posts you still want to preserve what's inside. All the old, locked threads are preserved, and most of them have no value besides memories. I don't see how groups should be treated any differently. Why keep old photographs in the attic?
