I just started browsing these here forums, and I've got to say: wow. There are a lot of users. And a lot of posts. Pages upon pages. I don't believe the current forum setup is an efficient way to manage it. Posts get lost too quickly, threads disappear in a matter of minutes, and I have no idea where I left off on one popular topic to come back to it later, after fifty-some posts have been added.
This may have even been brought up before, but the search function only allows searching the entire forums at once - which isn't really helpful. No more so then scanning through the forum pages themselves to look for whatever it is I'm looking for.
I would like to offer up the vBulletin format as a solution, if it's feasible. With many more sub-categories. Giving Halo 3 it's own forum with no sub-categories (say, one for weapons, one for maps, one for the campaign, etc...) is...tough to push through. And I'd like to contribute!
Anyway, the reason why I propose vBulletin (or something similiar): the search function allows for specific sub-category searches, greatly cutting down the number of posts needing to be sifted through. Not only that, but you can set your filter for thread titles or just anywhere in the post - also useful.
Also, probably via cookie, it allows you to hop right back into a thread from where you left off ('go to first new post'). These two are my big...comforts with forum surfing.
Ultimately, my first reaction when I got here: "There's thousands of users and little organization. I'm lost."
My thoughts. Sorry if someone already said the same! I looked though at least five pages and tried the search, but it still left me with over half a dozen pages.
