I don't think anyone has ever been IP banned, mainly because it's inneffective and so laughably easy to circumvent.

That's not fair. Some of them are grey pixels.

Good to know. I always wondered why half my display was used firing off black and white pixels with no information and if that would ever be fixed.

Really?
Anyway, that greyish area to the right fades to black eventually. I have a good 2 inches of solid black on the right side of my screen.
Please tell me you guys are doing something about that.

Me too. Its better than a bunch of annoying flashing Javascript ads. Much better. It also serves as a place you can look when you get overwhelmed. Like a bland unbilical cord to reality.

Good to see at least somebody takes this place seriously

I am sincerely disappointed in everyone except JIMH. JIMH, have a gold star.

I like it like this. It seems so compact, and I can still have all the side bars open without scrolling sideways. I hope we keep the unused space unused. The only thing I would want to take up that space is the Nav Bar, so I don't have to scroll down as much.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

Id be happy with some pictures on the side.

I'm certifiable.

Just so long as the new layout is scalable: right now I'm using a 7" 800x480 display on an ultramobile PC, and the forum works quite well when I have IE7 in full screen. I'd hate to lose that capability.

-- Steve could use built-in emulation to fake a 1280x600 display, but then things are a little fuzzy... and darned little.

It's not grey, it's darkish white!

I seriously doubt that we have more than 2,000 unique active users. That being the case, vBulletin would work rather well. Another benifit of vBulletin is their IP bans, something that I dont think these forums have. Also vBulletin, as was previously stated, allows for the creation of sub forums and regular forums. This allows the moderators on vBulletin or more efficiently control the forums. On top of that, the sub forums can be used as groups currently are.

We use IP bans. But only if absolutly nessecary.
In my opinon, the vBulletin boards and others like it seems very cluttered. Our Ninjas (moderators) moderate all of the forums. (Maybe exept for the gallery, news, and voting booth)
Yes, IP bans are available here... But they don't work. Dynamic IP's and simple changing of the IP almost makes IP bans useless.

I am also fairly certain Achronos and the Webmaster can do basically anything they want with the package this website is made from. And if they can't, Ideal Science could always be paid to engineer what they want. Bungie, with its advanced staff and cap room really don't have limits from within the law. vBulletins simply cannot handle what happens on this site. Also, does vBulletins have the abundant customizable features that Ideal Science has? I very much doubt it.

You guys underestimate vBulletin's capabilities. Just because this website was made by Bungie doesn't make it automatically 20x better. I mean this software that they use, and the programming language that they used, is far superior to what vBulletin uses, but only because most people don't use what Bungie uses. vBulletin has just as much capability as IdealBB does, with a bunch of useless features added as well. The software isn't the only thing that is dependant on how efficiently the website runs. There are other factors as well, such as the internet connection of the dedicated servers, the location of the servers, the specs of the servers, your internet connection, your location, the type of programming language used, the version of the programming language, the framework, the size of the database, the type of database, the speed of the database, and a whole lot of other things that even I'm not completely educated about.

Please learn a little bit about what you're talking about before you post supposed facts.

The main problem with these forums is the visual layout. In a few very specific ways, this forum does not use its available screen real estate efficiently.

That will eventually change. And I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with the results.

A lot of members are counting on you. I'm pretty sure we'll be pleased. No pressure. ;)

I, personally, would rather see changes in the community than the site, but you can only control so much...
