It truly is amazing what people will use to make a comparison.

No. It was before. And all of the people from 2006 where being ignored. It had to be taken out.
It's in profiles marked as "Member Since."

I say yes, but it shouldn't be displayed after a certain period of time.

Not really. People from 2004 could be just as ignored as people from 2006. If you make worthwhile posts the day you joined means nothing.

I read it. I've seen new members ignored before when the Member Since was there. And if the person is trolling, people usually can tell. Don't forget about the IP addresses that are being tracked.

I'm liking the idea of it disappearing after a week. Then again, it was removed not too long ago, so I think it'd be pushing it to demand it back again. But I can see that working well.

I was thinking of something similar of this in that there could be description for new users such as 'New Member' as opposed to just the regular 'Member'. I thought that perhaps this would be a good way for normal members to identify Spammers and other miscreants simply by their pointless, ridiculous posts and realizing through their New Member status that they are simply repeat offenders who have created a new account and are therefore not worth responding to.

The downside to this is that good 'New Members' could easily be mislabeled if they posted something slightly off-topic or innappropriate, though still their status as being ignored could cut down on unneeded posts. Basically, if a thread is made obviously off-topic or Spam, their status as a New Member could be a 'Red Warning' to ignore this user by not replying. This could also be enforced with stricter rules governing those who wish to reply to a bad topic or post by a New Member with a blacklisting instead of just a "-Steve wonders when people will simply ignore bad threads and posts instead of responding." type of thing.

The end results could be something like this:
-New accounts are given a status of New Member for a predefined time period, a week or so to get oriented with the place before they receive the normal Member status.
-Spammers and trolls who repeatedly make new accounts and bad threads/posts obviously receive the same status.
-If a thread or post is made obviously off-topic by a user with New Member status, there should be a strict rule to ignore it altogether(already in place, though not so strictly enforced). Those responding should be dealt with more harshly than if they were replying to a regular Member.
-Ultimately, nobody responds to a regular spammer easily identified by the New Member status who repeatedly makes bad threads/posts for knowing the consequences. 'Good' New Members who make a bad post are also ignored and pointed in the right direction by a Ninja.
-This could also help cut down on what some refer to as "Forum cops"

I know this is not a perfect plan and is open to its own flaws, some perhaps regarding elitism. It is mainly and idea to stop users from responding to spammers altogether, therefore robbing them of what they want to incite, Grief or Anger. Any ideas or critiques?

Why don't you just give me ONE SECOND!

No, not really. It was taken out for a reason...

Yes so I can feel superior

Honestly I don't care, some people who make accounts in 2006 are good members too

2:10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
2:11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
2:12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

No, because this is one of the features that DID actually cause elitism. All 2006'ers opinions were void and ignored like Cortana said.

Now that you've taken the time to look at my sig, I actually regret not providing you with something more worthwhile.

I'd like to have the old "Member Since" under the avatars again, but it did cause some people to be dicks to the newer members, so I don't expect to see it back.

No signature found. Click here to change this.

Heh, funny you should mention that.

There was one at one time, but it was removed as of roughly August '06, due to "ageism". People wouldn't take others so seriously if their creation date was two weeks ago, and give them crap for being new, so it was removed.

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

I have a simple solution. Just have Skiptrace and Sawnose make a device that sends the soul out into new members computers as soon as they post something. The soul will mill around in their computer for about a month, then return if there are no problems.

However, if there are problems, program the soul to activate the self destruct sequence built into every PC and MAC (the developers don't want you to know about this function, but its there). When their computer explodes, they'll probably want a refund from the manufacturer. That's when you use the routing program that Running Turtle made to find all the complaints of exploding computers to locate precisely where the offenders are. You can then but me a plane ticket to their location and I'll beat them up for you.

Or we can deal with just opening their profiles and seeing their join date there. It only takes a second, and I'm sure your time isn't so important that you can't spare a second to look at join dates.

I don't think so because people 'label' too much. I hate it when people always say that are better because they joined in 2004 and I joined in 2005. Or whatever. If you really need to know for serious purpose, then just click their profile.

(10:19:49 PM) Scruss: oh and pezza, i saw what you did to that cat
(10:20:17 PM) Pezza: You were the one with the video camera breathing heavily. Of course you saw.

It was taken out for a reason. Im fine with it being left out.

Edit: Of for acount? I don't see any reason why it should be taken out.

We don't need to do anything else to separate ourselves from the newer members. That's almost never a good direction to go. It would be nice to be able to detect spammers quickly or stop them completely, but as of right now there is no way to do either. All this would do is unnecessarily punish new members with more restrictions.

You have to actually read the posts anyway to see rule breaking. And if you notice spam in the thread from a particular user, you don't need to look at his join date. Just report it to a mod.

There is a reason I am user ID 1 and my account creation date is before this site came online.

However, knowing whether or not a member is new would change how I respond to them. I mean, if I see that they joined this week or month, and they posted in a wrong forum, I would offer them constructive criticism in a PM. If they have had an account for like a year, I'd just ignore the thread because what would be the post of correcting them, they don't care to learn.
