I voted for more than four Xboxes, but not for the same reason you've listed. Although it would be nice that we could have no split-screen on LAN (which is a very likely possibility of Halo 2, especially since some of the pictures from Bungie indicate this), but rather, I would prefer more than 16 players on Live. Based on all the reports, specifically from Game Informer, it appears that Halo 2 will only have 16 players on Live, something that is available already with several FPS games. It would be quite difficult to get above that, especially with the types of gameplay suggested in Halo 2, however a LAN would allow for a much higher amount of players, possibly 24 or 32 (like Star Wars: Battlefront is being touted as having).

While, it's not the most practical thing, due to Halo's popularity, I think it can be said that there will be many a LAN and many a tournament. Fundamentally, it would be a great way to build on Halo: Combat Evolved's precedence. I should just say that 32 players on LAN would be an amazing feat, that's 16 people per team. Can you say, no more Team Slayer. Rather... Slayer War.

I like that idea, but to add to what you said, I'd like to have more then 16 peeps on xbox live!
Just to make it feel more like a war!

"You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty." Gandhi

You will be able to hook up as many Xbox's as there are players on Xbox Live. Just like all other live games.

This post has nothing to do with Live. So, please comment on the LAN aspect of Halo 2.

Uranus

I feel the same way. LAN parties are what make the game so fun. Everyone I know plays Halo because of its multiplayer capability. I don't know if I have met anyone who has played the single player all the way through. Multiplayer is what makes a game last. However, the four players per TV is too cramped. Being able to link more than 4 Xboxes would make Halo 2 the best game ever. As if it wasn't going to be already. Most people get together to play Monopoly, we play Halo.

I agree completely! I would think all dedicated LAN Players would agree that spliting the screen with another person is fine but going 3 or 4 on the same box can be a drag. Nice to have the option if needed. I say increase the capacity, lets make Halo2 all it can be......

I hope and pray that Bungie does allow Halo 2 to system link more than 4 Xboxs!!! I too play Halo regularly on a 4 Xbox Lan. To be able to play Halo 2 over 6, 7 or 8 Xboxs would be heavenly. Two players on a 36" screen is where it's at! Each player has a perfectly wide view with plenty of screen space. I can't stand playing on rear or front projection. The picture is too dark, or too murky if brightened. Nor are they as sharp and vibrant as a tube.
Please read this Bungie and know this is what we want. This is the one addition that I want most! At least allow the ability for Lan 6.

I just hope they don't do what so many other game developers do and make it only 1 player on each Xbox when on a LAN. There are so many games out there that have fallen by the way side because of that, like RTCW, Soldier of Fortune 2, Rainbow Six 3, etc... Two and half years after Halo's release we still play the hell out of it because of it's great LAN ability. Let's hope they make Halo 2 even better by allowing more than 4 Xboxs to be connected while still supporting split-screen. For many don't have Live or like me, prefer playing in person on a LAN.

can the xbox even connect to more than four? I thought all it could connect to was 3 other boxes for LAN. maybe I just assumed this because all they ever have is up-to-4-boxes LAN games.

Regarding the comments of PrometheusRMN, up to 16 Xboxs can be connected on a LAN for some games, such as Soldier of Fortune 2, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Counter Strike, etc... Those games do not allow split-screen though, which sucks! It all depends on how the developers designed the game. Let's hope that Bungie does it like Crimson Skies allowing split-screen and a multitude of Xboxs on a LAN. I think Crimson Skies allows up to 8? We have had 5 connected in the past.

a bit off topic, but.. I'm hoping they allow for co-op over lan (and maybe via Live). How nice would it be to play full screen co-op? Maybe throw in offline headset support like R6.

Just keeping this post alive ... and yes Co-op over a LAN would be glorious!

Please vote and share your thoughts on the topic - let Bungie know what we want.

Just imagine the tournaments that will be, if 8 Xboxs are allowed on a LAN! Pick-up games and tourneys would be easy and everywhere with every 2 players bringing an Xbox and a 27" tv with them for some 8-vs-8. Wars would rage and blood would spill over into the streets!

More than 4 is too many. The boxes would la because of all the bodies in a huge multiplayer game. We all know we sticky nade' dead body piles. If anyone has played a half-life, shotguns KOTH match on chill out with at least 12 people, you know what I'm talking about.

I think Full Screen CO-OP would Be the Best thing going for halo two ... and the headsets .. maybe more like 4 person CO-OP on 4 Xboxes in all different rooms ... only hearing their voice's through the Headsets ... and Perhaps very SLIGHT voice Filters so it wont sound like we're talking to our friends .. more like we are following 3 other Spartans and we truely need to work together .. i Would love that feeling ... act like your a spartan .. pick one from the books and use their mannarisums use the Military ranking system so that the team acknowledge's command ... that would be an AWESOME CO-OP game ... i would buy it if you could only play it this way ..... there are WAY to few CO-OP games out there ... i love the Halo story and this is just my idea to make it more enjoyable and give it more Replay value .

I like your style Rhenerie, as long as you don't send my platoon to Reach :( I would be heartbroken if they didn't improve upon the co-op, I've spent as many hours playing that as vs.

Regarding Xennith Greywind comments - "More than 4 is too many. The boxes would lag because of all the bodies in a huge multiplayer game."
I disagree, I think a LAN of 16 players on 8 Xboxs would run smoother than what we have now with Halo, 16 players on 4 Xboxs. The Xbox would only divide it's RAM and processing power between 2 players instead of 4 and wouldn't that allow for smoother games with less frame drop? It seems to me that with Halo, if you put 12 players on 4 Xboxs, 3 on each, that the game runs smoother than if you put the 12 on just 3 Xboxs, 4 on each. Of course, a lot of has to do with the developer and how they design and program the game. Let's hope Bungie does support a greater LAN capacity for Halo 2, so that fewer players need to share a box while on a LAN.

I would love the fact to be able to play more than 4, but I would need more cables lol. 16 player is fine cause I've never needed that many, but I easily could get 6 or 7 xbox's going. Think about it - they'd make a load of cash on that.

With 7 xbox's.....
7 Xbox's = 1,050
27 controllers (1 comes with each) = $630 bucks.
7 Halo games = $210
The possibility to play up to 8 Xbox's on your favorite game with your favorite Halo buddies...priceless.

It doesn't and can't get any better than that.

For those voting for option 2 & 3 ... what the hell are you thinking!?!?! You apparently have never played Halo on a 4 Xbox LAN with at least a dozen players! There is nothing more fun than that! If Halo 2 allows us to spread out over more boxes, thus giving us more screen space and larger more comfortable LAN parties there will be nothing greater, not even Xbox Live!

Mr. Thawak must not have any friends like the 76% of us that voted for option 1. Sure, it would be expensive for you to go out and buy all the gear neccessary as you outlined in you little Master Card scenario. But the rest of us have friends that have their own Xboxs, their own controllers, their own copy of the game and are able to bring a tv or in our case, everyone pitched in some cash and we bought a few 36" tvs for our game nights. So why would Thawak go out and buy all that if he doesn't have the frends to play it with anyway???

And concerning your comment about us enjoying our lag while you won't on Xbox Live??? Apparently you have no idea what you are talking about. If anyone will be experiencing lag it will be those playing online, not a LAN.

My advice: Get some friends and give the LAN thing a shot!
