Say no to public betas.
They're -blam!-e, and you all know it.
Imbeciles get the keys. This is because a stupid-ass selection process is used in many cases (see here for possibly the worst -blam!- beta selection method ever). A semi-open beta such as this should simply be done on merit, i.e. how well you can actually test the game. Otherwise, muppets who work out ways to send in hundreds of signups will get a key and chances are, they won't know what they're doing. They'll play the game against bungie employees and the MS beta team, find it to be buggy and unpolished and then go whine about it in public, giving the game a reputation. It'll be like the post H2 "Where's my atv/variant hog/cool modes?!!" whining, just before the release. The only way the public should be let in on a beta is if they're trusted, long-term members of the community who, primarily, have the ability to test it, random gamers make for shoddy testers.
Public betas for the mother -blam!- lose. You know it. You all also know, even if it's only subconciously, that this is just a giant PR stunt using bungie as the ad board and the community as the whore, yet again.
In fact, i think the only way this could be worse is if it turns out that those 15 slots are the free slots, and everyone else down there can buy their way into the beta for an absurd amount. And hey, considering the way this has gone so far, i wouldn't put it past bungie to do so.
Thanks, bungie.
