Now that you've said that, how come you guys just don't tell us what the "whole story" is? I think the people who live in Australia and New Zealand would like to know the story. Right now, all they know is that they're getting screwed.

Thats not always a bad thing.

Sorry.

Second, the whole story is significantly more complicated than you might expect. Besides being a worldwide thing, there are lots of logistics and various sensitive issues of timing that require us to not dump all information on you at once.

There will be ample opportunity for lots of people to get into the beta to make it a good large-scale test. I cannot be more specific than that. I understand your frustration, but please have patience. We aren't trying to screw you over.

You know, you should be community dude, Achronos, you're good at it :). Whenever we get a kerfuffle like this, your golden text and proper grammar and simple explanations just seem to calm things down...

It wasn't an attempt at trolling, it was an attempt to bring a little levity to a thread full of a bunch of people whining about how all of a sudden, they are entitled to play the beta. Before anyone knew about the public beta, everyone was in agreement that Bungie would never release a public beta or a demo for Halo 3. Then, when Bungie announces a public beta, with no other details, everyone assumed that they will get to be part of it.

Even the HBO and xbox.com articles didnt have any details, yet everyone still complains about how unfair life is.

For everyone who complained before knowing any details whatsoever, there might be some chance that your assumptions concerning the beta were wrong. Then again, they couldnt be wrong, because that would mean you would be at fault and couldnt blame Microsoft and Bungie. How inconvenient.

This is what I don't understand. I know Microsoft calls a lot of the shots, and that's fair enough, but wouldn't it be smart to make an article about this on the main page? Explaining the situation and telling people that although there's only 15 slots open for them now, not to worry because more will open at a later date. Or something like that. I'm not trying to tell you how to do your job here, but a simple little news story on the front page would prevent a lot of people from complaining. Right?

I mean, you can understand why people are upset, so why not help those people out by giving them some information, you know?

Great!

We want to test with people from all geographical locations to ensure the best possible use of data.... I have never, ever been so pissed off at Bungie than I am right now.

Ah well, atleast now I dont have to worry about how the final product will be, enjoy your amazing game America/UK. I will still be here, waiting patiently, on yellow bar, wondering why the netcode is awful.

Oh my God I am angry. I'm getting off the site before I just... God dammit. Ten places? Sickening.

Might wanna throw it into perspective. Would you be angry if there were zero places worldwide? Probably not.

Dumbest question ever. The answer, to what should be a rhetorical question, is... yes. Because Bungie announced a public beta.

"Something > Nothing" may be a true statement like you siad, but when you're stuck in that 'Nothing' category (i.e. 99.9% of Aussie Halo fans), it will piss you off. No question about it.

By the way, whether more than 10 people will play or not (seeing as Achronos has offered a glimmer of hope - thank you by the way) is irrelevant to my point. If 10 slots was the limit, you would still defend the decision for it, which is simply... insane. Defending '10 slots' is just blatant fanboyism.

What's your point? 99.999999% of what goes on in any industry is behind closed doors. I know that, I'm not an idiot. All I'm saying, is that they really should make some sort of news article about it or something. Let the people know a little more information. They knew an announcement of 5 slots in New Zealand and 10 slots in Australia would cause some sort of upset, so why not stop it by posting a little article? Even a simple "we know the numbers seem low now, but they will rise sooner or later". Even that would help people understand what's going on a little more. Am I right or am I right?

Did you people think it was going to be a free-for-all playtest or something? Sing a few verses of Always Look on the Bright Side of Life and have some cocoa.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is a way to keep all the Halo 2 cheaters from getting a head start on the next installment. If there are a limited number of participants, each of whom is registered and had to actually do something to get his or her slot, that drastically cuts down on the risk of the beta being overrun by the scum of XBox Live.

Who knows, someday we may all look back on this and be grateful for it.

Possibly, but wouldn't it be better for them to try to exploit the beta now allowing Bungie to see it and correct it before the game ships as opposed to just checking on networking solutions and such? Has Achronos not said that he hopes as many people as possible try to exploit the system in the beta, like trying to do superjumps and other glitches?

As much as I hate to say it, the scum of Xbox Live would be well suited to this task. Not that they deserve it per se, but they seem adept at exploitations. Think of that show It Takes a Thief. Their expertise is invalueble.

Fanboyism? Nope. It's not looking a freaking gift horse in the mouth. Yeah, 10 sucks, but did they even have to give you 10? No. Will you still buy Halo 3 even though you're now expressing extreme anger? Yes. Quit -blam!-ing.

I agree about some sort of news story, Jeff. Reassurance that the situation is not as bleak as it seems would be much appreciated. If only to help keep the speculation and anger to a minimum.

A simple copy and paste job from this thread would be more than sufficient. The only reasons I can think of (against posting a news story) is that Bungie doesn't see it as important (unlikely, seeing as Tom took the time to post in this thread), or, (and this is what I fear) they don't want people to get too relaxed as there is a very significant limit to the amount of people allowed into the test.

Perhaps there are other reasons that I can't see, but at the moment that's all I can think of.

Everyone here, myself included, are tuely obsessed Halo-fans (I'm sure Bungie-folk feel the same way) so this is quite a big thing to us all. I guess we can only hope and pray that we all get to not just play the game as soon as possible, but have some sort of impact on our favourite game series.

I would not call you a fanboy for (e.g.) suggesting that maybe the situation is out of Bungie's hands, but I definately think you are being a suck-up for the simple fact you believe 10 slots is not completely rediculous.

Maybe, if you knew pez, and realised just how much we all like to play online together, you would understand just how big of a deal this is to us.

I am not -blam!-ing. I am grateful we got some more reliable info. You are saying it's ok for Bungie/Microsoft to piss off millions of fans because they will buy the game anyway?

I'm sure that in the end this will all make sense. For now, it does no good to get worked up when we don't even know what's going on yet. Give it time for some information to come in. I'm sure there is a lot of behind the scenes coordinating going on that we will never be privy to.

While I don't live in NZ or Australia, I can not fully comment on this issue, but I really don't see it as a "disgrace" to the community, since nothing was ever promised. If BUngie had first said, "every single person who wants to will be able to" I would be mad, but Achronos posts and rereading the update have led me to feel the issue is (right now at leats) being overblown.

I do, however, express heartfelt sorrow for everyone who will not get into the Beta, myself most likely included.

You have a decent argument, but that doesn't make you right.

I'm not calling you an idiot. Don't twist my words so you can victimize yourself. I probably didn't make the point of my post very clear, which happens from time to time.

What I was trying to say is that Bungie knows things that we don't, and they have a plan that they're following. I'm sure they have a reason for not posting details on later events to get into the Beta. We don't know their plan, they do. There's nothing we can do but wait and assume that they have a good reason for not posting the details.

In one sentence, they have a reason for not posting a news article about it, and their reason is behind closed doors.

It wouldn't piss you off if 100% of fans were in the "nothing" category though, because you'd have no idea that anything fu was going on in the first place. Imagine if Bungie hadn't announced a beta at all. You wouldn't have been angry, because you never would have thought you could get into a beta. Just be happy for the .000004% that you have at the moment.

Well now that's just stating the obvious.

But here's the newsflash. Bungie announced a public beta. Therefore 'if's and 'imagine's have absolutely no relevance to the conversation. That's what people don't seem to get.

The point is, 10 slots might as well be 0 slots, because that's practically what it is.

As for the "at the moment" thing. I know Achronos said that isn't the end of the story. But Meech made the flawed argument before Achronos said anything. This is not a complaint to Bungie. This is a discussion with another member. Please don't confuse the two.
