As I say, what really gets me is the insulting and unprofessional manner in which those outside North America are expected to go for their slots.

So far, I have to answer insultingly easy and simple questions, PM a guy on a forum with my personal details (you have got to be kidding me; no way am I giving that info away to some random person) and post on a forum to get a better chance, or write silly statements.

I would have no problem whatsoever with a standard sign up on MGS's site. I put in a few details, and submit. But being expected to do childish crap is insulting and unprofessional. Period.

And I know several people who are refusing to enter because of that.

Ditto on this.

Whare are EU beta spaces being put on competitions on fansites no-one goes to?

just another PR stunt, right?

I'm deliberately being non-specific, that is true. I have excellent reasons for doing so, though. Reasons, unfortunately, I can probably never talk about - that's just the nature of things.

This is one thing i must respect you for Achronos. I know several people in the situation you're in (strong ties to the community, and you're NDA'd to hell and back), and you're probably the only one i've ever seen to not sit there all day saying crap along the lines of "I know loads, but i can't talk about it! NDA! I rock, i'm NDA'd!" and then bask in the community's adoration. Hell, even a certain bungie employee has come disturbingly close to that level. Plus, your gold text calms everyone.

I think the main thing that pissed everyone off was that it wasn't immediately apparant that this was the first stage. This is probably because the US sign-ups went live, with an apparant unlimited number of slots, then we saw a tiny number of Oz/NZ slots go up at about the same time, so people just assumed that was it.

Just a matter of bad communication to the community really. Surely that must be apparant when the webadmin has to inform the community of what's going on?

Guys, to Alienate about 98% of your fanbase with a 'public' beta is not right. I'd rather not have an open beta than sit and play on my own with no friends. And I'm being serious.

I guess I would have to agree with jaf or meech (whoever said it) that I'd be jealous and not mad. But to advertise it, and make such a huge song and dance about it the way have, makes it all the worse.

Since when did only 2% of Bungie's fanbase live the US??

Well you're right,it unlucky to be in australlia. They only have 10 slots(if I'm wrong correct me),little represatation over there. But like someone said a couple pages before, 10 slots is better than zero, zip. At least everyone will get to play Halo 3 when it comes out in somewhere in 2007 unless the project is pushed back. The info on the beta could change, they could extend the amount of slots in australlia or any other country(new zealand has less how about some pity for them),decrease the amount of slots(its possible),or call the whole thing off. After all they might need more from australlia so please don't whine yet about the number of slots. There is one thing to remember from what I'm trying to say, everyone(halo community) in next year or so will be kicking back, all playing halo 3 so relax. If the network problems are terrible in those countries, well we still got the campaign to play. :)

1.Also I know all of you won't be convince that there is a little bit of a bright side to this.
2.I may have went off topic too.

All I remember is that helping Frankie ween off his mother involved several ninjas, a can of prune juice and about fifteen or so suitcases.

But as BobBQ, I too don't have a 360, and I'm not complaining a bit.

that which is not dead can eternal lie, but with strange aeons even death may die.

Well...I have just read each and every Moderator post in this thread, and I must say, It's nice to see that at least "Just another Fan" has some Balls to speak up...and saying something that everyone else agrees on.

also, I can understand that there will be more "ways" to get into the Beta, but I dont think thats what people are angry about,

they are angry about there only being 10 slots in all of Australia, and only 5 slots in New Zealond...

I mean...that is just sad...10 people in a country of millions? the odds of winning the lottery are higher...

Personaly, I would rather have had it that bungie didnt even anounce the "Slots" for the Beta, just a website (halo3.com) to sign up on.

And I really really, dont like the fact that It looks like; ok We'll let north america get it, but only like...30 people from all of the rest of the world.

I think that bungie should have not anouced the slots, and just randomly picked, say, one thousand people from the Bungie.net Community,

so it would not matter what "country" they are from, just if they are apart of the community.

My final word...A true lack of Balls...

Trailer Park Boys ~ One of the best Canadian made comedies ever.

Bungie is scared that if they let everyone play the Beta, people will get a head start on cheating. Well, so that means when Halo 3 is released, 2-4 months after, there will be cheating galore again? Poorest excuse ever.

Americans think that they own the world and that the majority of slots should be in USA, classic American!!!!! dont you think guys?

JUST MAKE THE BETA AVAILABLE ON THE MARKETPLACE TO EVERYONE!

Personally, I think Bungie should have sent it's ninjas out to find the best of the best when it comes to gamers, and then a few modders, and they shouldn't have announced it. Why modders? Because somehow modders seem to be able to find odd little glitches, combos, and just all around blatant mistakes.

Thee Warriors!

Best. Mod. Ever.

They could USE the cheaters trying to abuse the Beta so they can figure things out in advanced and patch them up.

Modders can't mod in an undisclosed location, held by Bungie ninjas, with no Hot Pockets and not a computer in sight. Trust me. I know. (And no matter what, we can get around any encryption level, by myself I've cracked up to 64-bit... and I'm just one man...)

Exactly. I know if I get the beta I will be doing my best to weapon glitch, get out of the map, superbounce and generally 'break' the game. That is what the beta is used for, to weed out problems before the final version is released.

This has been a hot topic of debate, and from what Achronos has stated, it seems that the public beta is primarily intended to test netcode/networking performance.

You are making assumptions as to what the beta is testing and also how data is collected from the beta. We're not going to be relying on manual feedback for the beta... that would be very hard to do with the scale we're imagining. We'll still read it, of course, but the behind-the-scenes data collection will be much more use.

Posted by: Achronos
I guarentee you there well be multiple [gameplay elements] disabled for various reasons in the beta. The only thing that would make a beta useless is if we waited until we were "done" with the game to do a beta, like you are suggesting our beta will be like.

Not that I thought differently before I read any of that, but those statements lead me to believe that Bungie will be reserving gameplay beta testing for a closed beta, which is pretty much what every non-MMORPG, console developer does with their games.

But of course, I could be wrong.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

May i ask how the beta testers were selected for the previous Halo games?

As long as they still leave a few ways to climb out of the map in the campaign, I'll be a happy person.

The beta will and most likely will be used as a shield to divert the modders.
Although if I was Bungie, I wouldn't keep the beta open for too long.

By the time the final game ships, Bungie would of fixed every bug/potential hack that modders tried.

"I can accept failure, everyone fails at something, but I can't accept not trying." - M. Jordan

I hope they know when a weapon isn't being used enough because they didn't make it powerful enough. The SMGs they said where too strong. Know they weren't, they did what they were suppose to do. Kill fast.

Whatever it takes for them not to mess up this game. I can't even play Halo 2 without feeling sickly bored. I hope it's different with Halo 3.

JUST MAKE THE BETA AVAILABLE ON THE MARKETPLACE TO EVERYONE!

Do you know what that would do to Xbox Live? It would already be a large file, and if they made it available like that, almost everyone who has Xbox Live would download it, then the servers would act like halo3.com did. People wouldn't be able to connect and the download would take forever.

Right now, since we're in the middle of everything, it probably doesn't make much sense. However, when all is said and done, and the beta testing actually begins, we'll look back and say, "Oh, that's why they did it like that!" (the rational ones, anyway)

Beta testing for previous Halo games was a strictly inside-Microsoft affair.

Dearest BobBQ. I'm not trying to forum cop but will you please lock this thread. The main point's been said and basically it's just winding down to whining, and repetitive whining at that. I don't think this thread will grow any further without straying away from the topic. Achronos pretty much already locked a thread that was the same thing as this.
