Hello, im having an issue that I would very much like to resolve as soon as possible. When I put a disc into my PC, nothing happens. It's odd, this only started two days ago. It's happened before, and in those situations ive just rebooted and everything was fine. BUt ive tried that several times. Please help. ATTENTION --- THIS IS NOT JUST WITH HALO - NONE OF MY GAMES WORK

Oh my God. Are you serious?

Click "Start" and then "My Computer." Under Devices with Removable Storage you should find your disk in there. My word. Just because the install menu didn't automatically open up doesn't mean something's wrong with your computer.

Your disk drive may be damaged. If you have a secondary CD drive, then try to use the disks with that and tell us if it works.

Ask for technical support from the people who made your PC, if it isn't a custom build you made.

Check device manager and see if anything is weird.

I've resolved to get a new disc drive. My dad said that animal hair (I got 4 cats) screwed it up. But he hates cats, so I dunno if that's true.

Thanks for the suggestion Paradox

He hates those cats. My cats sleep all around the house, and occasionally on top of the tower, and my PC is the finest piece of kick-assery around...

Yes, animal hair would probably do it. As would dust, lint, human hair, carpet fibers, and anything else possibly floating around in the air. Getting a new drive would probably be the best idea, unless you're brave and want to try repairing it.

Not too hard to open them for cleaning. Just first eject the tray, take off the front bezel cover of the tray (usually done by pulling the bottom part out, then sliding the bezel upwards), and then the drive bezel too (usually done by tabs on the side, top and bottom being pushed in, usually kinda swings upwards to get it out).

Then take out the 4 screws on the bottom.

Then slide off the bottom part by pulling straight apart the top and bottom assembly's, and then clean away. To re assemble? just do what I said in reverse really. ;)

The proper way to clean anything computer related is with either a can of compressed air ($5 CAD or so on average) or an air compressor machine (... dunno costs, lol), and then vaccum up the dust and crap.

I hope this was helpful in your adventures of cleaning your computer hardware. =)
