Ach! Was ist los?

Some time ago I posted a thread in the ATROPOS chapter, reposted below:

That's right, ladies and gents! We are now just over three months from M-thon's Big 10th: 12/21/1994 -- 12/21/2004!

Anyway, I thought it was time for people to start thinking about what we, the community, should do in honor of this great game. I know a few people are already doing stuff; for example, Anaphiel is hammering away on his Marathon artwrok, while the AlephOne project is picking up speed again. For my part, I was hoping to get my Marathon movie script done before 12/21.

The respose was favorable, so I thought it would be a good idea to post it here, along with any major suggestions already recieved.

The other day, I was chatting with one of the main AO programmers, and he told me that in the next release build, you wont be required to mess around with IP’s for internet play, and that internet and cross-platform compatibility should be much more stable. I'll have to talk to him some more and see if I can get any more details. If it is released before December, this newest build could be stable enough to allow for a huge ATROPOS AlephOne party, over the ‘net! (And IIRC, that was one of the reasons this chapter was started.

I promised an update to the Tenth Aniversary Marathon CD project (currently called the Marathon Decedence CD) - here is where I am at:

This is what I have so far:
A CD containing:
M1A1
Marathon 2
Marathon oo
Note that each game uses AlephOne, and has the high res textures, mml for extras (like fog and transperancy) and a pdf of the original manual.
The editors (forge and anvil so far, I will add more as I go)
AlephOne (binaries for all platforms and source code)
Marathon Extras (desktops, images, scans, movie scripts ;) etc)
Scenarios (maps, mods and Marathon Scenarios)

I am currently working on the CD layout, as well as custom icons and getting each game to work well with their mml and textures. I am working only on the Mac version ATM, but I will move on to the windows/linux version soon. The 2 versions will be the same, except for the layout of the CD, and I will attempt to make a windows installer and autorun program.

I'll also do up a website for with more info and screenshots, and start taking suggestions and submissions soon.

I've been thinking of distribution - bit torrent would be best, but google mail might work (ie I email it to other gmail accounts).

I haven't started on my draft letter to bungie yet (to get permission to distribute marathon infinity), I would like to have a large amount done so I can demonstrate what I am planning in the hope that it will give more weight to the project.

If we could get it to behave like a true windows installer (with an uninstaller and start menu entries) it would be tops.

I am quite skilled with auto run files, and am going to make a simple SDL based program is launched by the auto run and gives the CD options (the usual install, readme, website, quit buttons).

For Mac I am going for a .dmg, but an ISO for windows/linux would be the best I think. Once I have the directories and files all set up, it is trival to create an ISO under linux.

Right now, my own contributions to the project are the Marathon movie script, which should be available as an extra on the CD, and the Windows versions of the Decadence installers.

So, here we are. I hope people will come up with constructive and creative things to contribute, and suggestions are always welcome. I'll post updates as we go, and I hope others will do the same.

I would also like to propose a AO gameathon!
