For anyone who feels up to it, my friend and I are on different platforms -- XP and OS X, both updated versions -- but whenever we try to get our game on, we can't get either IP address to match (spurious characters like semi-colons are listed as part of address, but are rejected for purposes of joining the game) or when he creates an internet game, I can't join. If I create the game, he can join, but then he basically goes LD or gets kicked out within seconds and then the game isn't listed for him. It sucks. We just wanna do some Classic Slayer.

If this posts twice, I got a failure msg. on the first attempt, so sorry in advance.

Hm... as long as both of you are running compatible versions, which it sounds like you are, you should be able to join and play together. Try joining a public game through Gamespy. Does that work for you guys? It may be a network setting that's causing trouble. Are you guys joining from a LAN or across the Internet?

Heyyo,

For a sec, I though your prob was Mac's n' PC's couldn't play together, but that's just computers to xboxes...

Ok, so yeah, if it's lan, you won't need to start an internet game.

On the latest patches, people have reported having problems joining eachother's games... I suggest maybe getting patch v1.04 if you guys are just gonna do some LAN gaming to reduce the odds of the new patch causing the erros...

BTW, are you guys running the same versions of Halo? that could be the cause in the 1st place. If you can't find it listed that can be why.
