With B.B. gone, the passion of Bungie.net has lessened.

Well, not that moderators had anything to do with it. But I'm just a wee bit tizzled (I don't care if that's a word or not) about the news about the Beta situation in New Zealand and Australia.

Honestly, Bungie, why would you bother telling us that it's going to be an open, public Beta? Yes, you did admit there would be some restrictions, but... you went ahead all la-la-land-like and made everyone think that they'd all get a pretty good shot at getting to play the Beta if they owned a 360 and had XBL. Way to go. Good job. Seriously (NOT).

It's rather funny, in a very maddening way. I know that you all hold to your little secrets for marketing purposes, and I accept that. One has to do certain things in a capitalist economy in order to succeed... whatever. That doesn't really matter. You could have, at the very least, hinted that there would be a pretty DAMN LARGE NUMBER of people outside of North America who would be illeligible to play the Beta.

And Achronos said something about there being other options, that not all has been said yet. That may all be well and good in the end, but surely you must have realized how you would lose respect over this. I guess it would be too.... inappropriate for me to accuse the lot of you as being liars, but you didn't tell the truth. It's like dangling food in front of a starving child and then snatching it away at the last second. Ok, so it's not that bad, but it's still pretty disrespectful of your fans. You have changed, Bungie. Greatly, and not for the better. This is coming from a fan that's been observing these forums for a fairly decent number of years since the release of the original Halo.

And to any of the administration who want to reply to this: Don't disrespect your fans further by giving me some sass about Bungie not really owing their fans anything. I know that a videogame is a pretty trivial thing, not a necessity of life, and there are more important things to -blam!- about in this world... Ban me if you will, that's fine, but I think the fact that you guys are really coming off as a bunch of stiffs who care nothing about their fan community should be brought to your eyes first.

And I'm not that naive when it comes to the business world. I may not know first-hand how things work, but I know what life can be like, and I can speculate. I'm sure you have your reasons for doing what you did, but perhaps you should think a bit more before you make certain announcements. Either that, or stop writing your news updates so happy-go-lucky and threading them with pseudo-truths. Don't pamper us. We're not all children here. Don't treat us as such.

He's not an idiot, don't treat him as one.

Spring doesn't come for several months. I don't think bungie is stupid enough to call 15 people in New Zealand and Australia to be called extensive testing. Relax, take a deep breath, and most of all have patience. If it turns out there really are only 15 spots, then we might run into some problems.

Yes, people don't realize that this is just another part of development. It's not a gift to the fans. This is the only avenue Bungie is able to use (as far as I know) to get the data they need form around the world.

All you should be concerned about is the final product and how much better it's going to be because there are BETA testers in AU and NZ.

PS: Did I say he was an idiot? If he had read the post by Achronos he obviously wouldn't be making such a huge deal out of nothing. For all he knows, he will be a BETA tester. He has no reason to complain.

Mourne not your comrades who must dwell / too strong to strive -
Within each steel-bound coffin of a cell, / Buried alive;
But rather mourne the apathetic throng / The cowed, and the meek -
Who see the world’s great anguish and its wrong / And dare not speak.

This is phase one. There will be more ways to enter the beta program, so don't panic. We will try to ensure that everyone who wants to participate has the opportunity to do so. The beta will be a world-wide affair, and every region that is elligible to participate, will. Much of the information on Halo3.com applies to the US only - so if you live in a different region, keep an eye on your local Xbo x site for details. [emphasis added]

From the news story here.

If they plan to come anywhere near fulfilling that goal, then we have just seen the tip of this testing.

There is a reason I am user ID 1 and my account creation date is before this site came online.

Damn it Recon, that super secret Koala link gets me every time!!

Let's all just calm down kids, I would ASSUME that if you are having this kind of a reaction to finding this out, chances are you aren't over 17, and therefore not eligible for the Beta anyways.

None of you understood my points. Did you even read my post?

And Recon, you did exactly what I thought any moderator or administrator would do. Thank you for proving me right.

<shakes head>

Being calm hasn't really gotten the point across from me to others in the past, so I'm trying a different approach. Also, you shouldn't know very well that when people have brought up points calmly towards bungie, they have often gone unnoticed.

I'm not trying to be arrogant (-blam!-, maybe I just am, personally). I'm just trying to show that what Bungie did seemed like a slap in the face, yet again (yes, they've done it before), to the community.

As I said before, it's not so much that Bungie's limiting the beta. Betas are usually limited, and I didn't really expect a quote-unquote "public" beta. It's how the announced it. Please read the whole thread before you make your posts. And thank you, in advance.

Untill I recieve confirmation I won't be getting completely ripped off with this beta thing, I am not going to pretend I'm not angry. Shai's thread > vague news story.

Now c'mon pezza, you have no reason to be upset. I mean, you have 1/20,705,200 chance of getting this beta! No need to worry!

I agree with Shai here. It feels like Halo 2. Getting people's hopes up and then crashing them down. Hopefully some resolve will surface.

I'll be on my own side.

They said it would be a world-wide beta, or something like that, but I don't recall them saying that it would be available to all regions from the get-go. Of course, its natural to assume so, and seeing that this isn't the case, I'm sure the other regions will get their chance as the release date draws nearer.

Nevertheless, that should have been clarified with the initial announcement. Seeing that that didn't happen, how about a little reassurance for your fans on the other side of the globe? I don't think they're going to be totally screwed, but that's just me. I'm sure they'd like to know for sure.

Three things:
1) I live is Australia.
2) PC > Xbox, 360 or otherwise
3) I have given up Halo, permanently. I only hang around B.net to chat about Marathon and provide help where it's needed and I can provide.

Needless to say, I don't give a flying -blam!- about the H3 beta.

You all need to chill out. It's just a game.

Man, I am sure glad I don't care so much about a video game to -blam!- and moan about something as trivial as this. C'mon, what the hell guys? It's just a damn beta. An adult wouldn't be complaining like this whenever something doesn't happen to go their way.

And why the -blam!- did you call out the moderators? How in the hell is it their decision to "screw over" Australia and New Zealand? They are just normal members like you and me and don't get any more information that we do, so they are just as in the dark. Give them a break, they spend their whole time here trying not to hurt the feelings of 13 year old kids that think they are special.

Basically, I think everybody complains too damn much here. Get a life and stop worrying about who does or doesn't get to play the Halo 3 beta.

Yes, Pezza and I are sorry for limiting our own country's beta slots to ten people.

And Recon, you did exactly what I thought any moderator or administrator would do. Thank you for proving me right.
Curse Recon for answering your concerns!

Bungie themselves haven't said anything about how many slots are going to be available world wide, and in each country. xbox.com is offering ten slots if you do whatever they want you to do. Stop your -blam!-ing. Not even xbox.com said that those were the only slots available for Australians in the beta.

I'm more pissed at the community than at Bungie!

Since its there business, they can do what they please. Do they have to disclose all the information no. IF your sick and tired of them doing this then dont go on the site or go somewhere else because noone really cares about your or my rants. The business world in many ways is harsh and cruel

What I detest most is the whole crap for other regions. Even if they do eventually open it up more.

US/Canada? You get a nice easy signup via halo3.com. No competition bull-blam!-, an exact date of when things would be open from, and you have the knowledge that your application has gone straight to MS, instead of via some third party.

Europe? Jump through the hoops, spend your time answering trivial questions and firing off emails to places you may well never have heard of/visited before, hoping you get selected (and it's a fairly small chance), and that there's another link in the chain where things can go wrong.

NZ/Australia? Same thing, except the figures will probably give you a heart attack if you don't happen to visit Bungie.net. At least your application goes straight to MS...

It makes perfect sense if you were to delay different region until different dates, so that the servers don't melt like they did yesterday. But the cryptic "it's not the full story, you might get more chances later but in the meantime here's some hoops to jump through" is like being hit in the teeth by a sledgehammer-wielding Spartan.

And the funny thing is, I understand perfectly that it's not a sneak preview, but a beta test. You know, some people are looking forward to trying to break the game to make a bug free launch too, as well as annihilating people with a spartan laser.

In fact, guess what? I will propose a feasible idea with no BS!

It's simple. You release the beta as a download on the marketplace for gold subscribers (which you can already do; no changes to marketplace are needed). The sheer size would limit it to a hard drive.

You open downloads gradually in different regions (which you can also do) a month or so before the beta starts, so everyone can get their copy in time for the beta, without ruining xbox live due to a surge in downloads. Then, at some magic time you flick the switch, and allow the beta to be used by everyone.

No mess. No fuss. No BS. No melted servers.

Hot damn, people should pay me to come up with smart ideas like this, which let everyone know where they stand, put people on equal grounds, and don't appear to discriminate. But that'd be too sensible for MS right?

Oh how I'll laugh when everyone who is crying right now looks like a fool when they open up registration to the rest of the world.

In case Im wrong, here is an open invitation to publicly ridicule me.

Can somebody explain to me how Bungie let thier fans down? Bungie said public-beta with certain restrictions. If I assume they are talking about a massive, everybody gets a chance to play, BETA, and I'm wrong, I don't blame Bungie or Microsoft.

People need to stop blaming others for thier own assumptions.

Seems like every little thing that goes wrong nowdays is automatically our fault.

I've said my piece on the beta already. Won't be playing it, don't want to play it.
