Man, I am sure glad I don't care so much about a video game to -blam!- and moan about something as trivial as this. C'mon, what the hell guys? It's just a damn beta. An adult wouldn't be complaining like this whenever something doesn't happen to go their way.

And why the -blam!- did you call out the moderators? How in the hell is it their decision to "screw over" Australia and New Zealand? They are just normal members like you and me and don't get any more information that we do, so they are just as in the dark. Give them a break, they spend their whole time here trying not to hurt the feelings of 13 year old kids that think they are special.

Basically, I think everybody complains too damn much here. Get a life and stop worrying about who does or doesn't get to play the Halo 3 beta.

Don't call him a forum cop he used to be a moderator...

I'll be on my own side.

I wouldn't say Shai is being childish. Granted, it's a far cry from what I'm used to seeing from him, but I guess it's understandable.

Personally, I can't say I'm all that pissed(why would I be, I live in NA), but I understand how Pezza and other Aussies feel. I'm a bit ticked at the fact that they require a stupid little competition. I mean, if it were something like HBO's 117 word story contest, that would be a bit more understandable.

I understand the reasoning behind it, as it would suck to have a whole country squabbling over 10 spots.

I don't understand what the moderators have to do with anything though.

Even though Recon, doesn't that whole debacle show that Bungie does not have control over the whole Beta selection? Considering it's their game, I find it...disheartening...to discover that MS is using this whole Beta frenzy as an advertising method. Which it is. But it shouldn't be. But..it kind of is.

Know what I mean?

The Frozen Minority - The most infamous clan borne from the Seventh Column.

I understand I am being childish but lets look at this from my perspective.

In the last 5 days I have had to;
- Mourn the death of my Grandfather (and help organise a funeral)
- Keep the forums somewhat in check
- Do countless assignments
- Do it all in 38C heat
- Now possibly I might be getting shafted by a company who has decided a fun contest consists of asking mature gamers to write a childish response to why they should be able to play a game.

The very best I can hope for is that there are more spots in the beta, which means the best I can hope for is that Bungie or Microsoft have withheld the truth from me and my country in order to exploit us for hype. I'm not going to lie here, I feel like we are being discriminated against for reasons I can't understand.

Don't tell me I am being a whiney child, I want to play the game I have been waiting for for two years and (this is the important part) I want to improve it for those playing outside of host.
Host is the single greatest problem in Halo 2 for a massive number of players, and, instead of using an opportunity to extensively improve this, they are asking us to enter a competition.

I know we should be waiting for more information but when you wake up to hear
"10 spots for Halo 3 playing Australians" you tend to get angry. It took a massive discussion to get some clarification on the front page that we weren't being entirely screwed, should that have been necessary?

Should we have to pick through marketing jargon to disect the information that we aren't being brushed aside?

I wouldn't have minded if it had said "10 spots avaliable in the first phase of the Halo 3 US beta. Be one of the first in Australia to participate in the beta!".
Instead I have to look for a loophole that suggests I will have a chance to improve Halo 3?

I know I am probably wrong here and more spots will emerge and all will be well. However I think it to be extremely nieve for whoever it was in marketing to only make mention of 15 slots in an entire region. Mr Magoo could have foreseen what would arise from that. A little bit of tact would be nice.

I will still be here though, waiting for someone to tell me the truth instead of some faceless fool in marketing. When that day comes you are all welcome to call me a fool or an idiot or whatever, it wont worry me because I will finally have some measure of closure.

By the way dont take any of this post as angry or irrational, I am pretty calm I just want an answer about why we have only heard about ten slots for a population of over twenty million. I dont think you can blame me for being a little eager to get a response about my true chances of playing the beta, considering I shouldnt have to be waiting in the first place for such information.

Hey! Imagine you are told halo 3 is going to be released, then imagine they announce that it will only be on a completely new system that you have to buy from satan. Think your pissed off?

With that said, bungie never gave details, they just said that some people would get to play a beta version of halo 3, not how many.

Pezza, remember that Bungie has said nothing about the amount of Beta spots, and until Bungie says it it is not true. This contest may just be a way to assure these 15 people slots, and nothing more. Don't go grasping for things to cry about when you don't need to.

I am sorry to hear about your Grandfather.

Are you honestly coming in here and telling us we don't have a reason to be upset because the real problem in your eyes is that Halo 3 is being released on the Xbox 360? Are you an idiot?

But Jeff, you're from Canada, you have nothing to be mad about. It's not like you're in australia or something.

And yeah, if you are honestly saying that Halo 3 on XBox 360 is a bad idea, I think you don't understanbd technology.

Yes I am sorry Rainman89, I forgot that I have nothing to be upset over, I mean, it's not like everybody I play with on Xbox Live is from the UK and Australia.

Please note: All of my Xbox Live friends are from the UK and Australia.

How do you not have a single American Friend?

I've got North American friends that I play with. However, we're all friends with them and we all play together. I play with my friends: Jay, Sean, Gendo, ash, Crayon (the Brits), and pezza (the Aussie). So, I have all the right to be upset here. Not only does pezza have a 1 in over 20,000,000 chance of getting the beta, but the UK only has 600 slots, and oh ya they sold all 600 slots to websites for competitions. Ya, that's wonderful. And to be a little selfish here, I'll most likely not get one either because Canada gets screwed a lot of the times as well, so whatever America gets I'm sure we'll get half or something stupid like that.

I think, in reality since we all have a reason to be unhappy (I probably won't get a slot either), we all have a reason to be happy. This is the on chance for the community to come to gehtoer as a whole, united against Microsoft's ad campaign. I suggest we combine our assets and buy Bungie away from them. I nominate Impy as treasurer.

In all seriousness though, Let's all just give ourselves hugs, be thankful for what we have, and murder anyone who gets a copy of the beta.

I think I'm slowly starting to understand everyone's stance a little more. Those longer posts where someone has to really pour it out do help. On one hand I can understand where Pezza is coming from. His mental anguish aside, it is quite juvenile in Microsofts (hopefully) first attempts at releasing slots for the Beta. A Beta is something that should be taken seriously and a 25-word essay contest is rather childish in the scheme of things.

And just the same, if there are more slots available, I cannot see a real point to the contest other than trying to generate hype. If there are only a certain amount of slots available, wouldn't it be a contest in some fashion, no matter what the means to get to participate? Ultimately, I think it would have been a much better idea to just offer up all the available slots at one time for that particular region, like in North America but at a later date.

I can also hypothsize about where Achronos is coming from, though I can't understand it fully as that would require insider information which is not gonna be seen in the public domain for some time to come. Basically, you just can't release all the information about everything, especially when dealing with a franchise this massive and trying to coordinate it on a world-wide scale.

With that said, I would have to hope that Achronos could at least recognize that the first means by which slots became available to our friends in Aussie/NZ were piss poor to begin with. I would be quite perturbed if this were the case here in the states would I be making an effort to particapate in the Beta.

And to the whole thing with the childish behavior, Shai shouldn't have brought it up in the first place even if the way he stated things was in a perhaps, oh, quite elated manner. When it comes to the biggest game in history, as some would say, I suppose it is normal to expect even adults to behave in a manner that could be ill-perceived as childish to some. Dmbfan was right and he was wrong. Yeah, its just a game(to some). To others, it is the biggest thing since Star Wars. Yes, I am making the implication that Halo is this generation's Star Wars. This is a Bungie fan site, and you can't just scoff at these guys expressing their distaste of something related to to their game.

I didn't mean to offend anyone. My condolences to Pezza.

An adult response is to wait until the full set of information is released... and THEN complain about the parts you don't like.

I mean sure, it's true... But you must understand that if there's one thing that complaining after the fact isn't going to change, it's "...large worldwide events [that] take time, planning, and coordination...".

What I'm saying is, if all the information was released and (let's just say) it was the worst-case scenario and that only 15 spaces were available for Australia and New Zealand... Complaining about it then would have a slim chance of changing anything, methinks.

I want to use the unranking of Big Team (and the uproar that followed) as an example, but it's not really in the same order of magnitude. =)

I think that all the complaints in the last... 6 months boil down to one thing.

Why don't you talk to us more? It's irritating hearing our Halo information through marketing, or 3rd party sites, I mean a front page article thanking HBO for pointing out that there are new Bungie store items? What on Earth? The Beta signups not being announced here, concerns not being answered until people's emotions boiled over... Seeing questions about the Halo 3 commercial being answered in an HBO chat by Frankie and KP. There are a few dedicated community guys, I beleive, but lately it seems that you are the only voice of authority we really hear from on this site, Achronos. KP and Frankie are over in HBO or working on other things, I haven't seen Shishka around in a while, certainly not posting information.

Long story short. We are long-term, dedicated fans. We are not children. We know, and we know you know.

But it seems the only time we ever get any interaction from anyone at the company we are such fans of... Is when there's a problem, and someone here makes a fuss about it.

I still have respect, but from the way this "contest" is set up, it just seems a little bit insulting. This site has countless loyal fans and it just seems like alot of them feel they are being handed the short end of the stick. It just doesnt sit well.

And i have no idea what the mods have to do with this, or bungie for that matter.

I myself will not participate in this little event.

For the main reason that i dont fully understand it.

All i'll say is this: be upset with bungie, be upset with microsoft, be upset at the few million people who are signing up to be in the beta test. That will get you very far. In fact, if you get angry enough, your head may explode.

Look, it really makes no difference who is at fault. What matters is how you look at it. If you think there's a problem with it, congrats. But remember that this is such a minor detail in the great scheme of things. Its not the game, its just a small beta test.

And speaking of beta test, bear in mind that it is meant for people to test the game and report back to bungie about it. That's a pretty important detail. Most people who do this get paid to do it. Here, not only is it free, but everyone wants to do it. Remember that the usual payment for this job is $10 an hour, 40+ hours a week with overtime and night pay.

Many people say its for publicity. No -blam!- sherlock. Publicity works great for Bungie, MS and the Halo franchise. It would be stupid for them not to do something that would benefit them in this way.

Fans being upset...well, that's the main issue, at least with the people here. Everyone seems to be so upset. Why? Are you upset because some guy may get to play the game before you? Buck up kids, because that makes you part of the normal 99.99% of people. I don't mean to be so harsh, but what makes you think that you, specifically, are so damn special that you should play the game first?

And remember that this is the first time Bungie is doing this at all, and that they probably weren't even planning it in the first place. Its like saying that you don't like me because i gave your friend a present. It wasn't your birthday, but it will be eventually. WAIT. PATIENCE.

Lastly, for those of you who read this and think nothing of it and continue their rampage of unhappiness and spoiledness, remember that Bungie and Microsoft are a business. No matter how angry, mad, or upset you are, you are one customer. You can be 10, 100, or 1,000 customers, and it still won't make a great deal. If you act like a child, the moderators will be forced to treat you like a child, and eventually this FAN WEBSITE will end up being a piece of junk because of a crappy fanbase.

So yeah, you should thank Bungie for giving us a Beta test at all. Yeah, you should be happy there is even the slightest chance that you will get to play halo 3 before anyone else. And if you don't, goodness, you'll just have to go back to the fully made and released games that you have already. Or maybe your girlfriend, or family, or life.
