Wow, I've never seen a moderator act like that. Seriously, I probably won't be getting to play the beta, and I won't care. You know there's this thing called the Halo 3 game coming about some months after that. I know crazy isn't it?

Meh. I'm actually surprised that we're getting anything at all, thats not usually the case. (From what I've read its five open slots in the beta, thats probably already been said seven million times in this thread, but I'll be honest, I only read the first post)

Not only is Bungie spitting in the face of its fans, Bungie is being blatantly racist. I am shocked at Bungie's behavior. Fans from Austrailia have a right to be pissed off.

You did read the thread, right?

I hate to say it, but he does have a point. Bungie is discriminating against non-North Americans here. There's no denying that they are being racist. I didn't think Bungie was like that but hey, you learn something new everyday.

  • 12.05.2006 8:40 PM PDT

What are you folks talking about?

Bungie has to do this in order to keep things regulated in the way they want. They are not being racist, they are just doing what they need to do to have a sucessful beta.

Also, I'm gonna assume that whining will probably not make more slots open up. I know what some of you are thinking...

I have completely and utterly lost repect for some of the members I once respected in this thread. Its just a game, better yet a "beta" version. And the fact that people make assumptions alittle too early in the timeline and then when proven wrong, act stupid. They don't even admit to their shortcomings.

Jesus Christ!

If anything AUS and NZ should be glad.

Sure, there are only 5 and 10 spots open in their respective countries right now but that's why they should be thankful. Did you guys ever think that the BETA will open up in those countries like it has here.

Those 5 and 10 slots (respectively) are GUARANTEED slots. I don't see that guarantee for the US or Canada. So, whoever can impress the people at Microsoft with a little 25 word paragraph will be guaranteed a spot. That would be a lot better then entering in along with who knows how many other people and hoping that you are chosen out of them for one of the however many slots there is going to be.

Some of the members I respected the most just lost all of that respect due to this BETA. Hmm, I wonder why Bungie doesn't do BETAs? Oh yeah, because of things like this thread.

You people are children to the 15th power.

Yeah, i think the first mistake was actually having a beta. But we can't do anything about that.

But to be honest, 10-15 spots is not a whole lot compared to what North America will probably have. In order to make this test successful, Bungie will need to get a lot of information, which means they need a large beta.

  • 12.05.2006 9:36 PM PDT

My opinions have already been stated in this thread by other people, but I'll take a shot at it.

Just wait a few months for the full game. It's not terribly hard. Or, failing that, just wait until some other bit of information comes out so you can jump to conclusions and -blam!- about that. Because there's no reason to whine about it now. If it turns out that those are the only spots, then I'll probably join in on your anger.

Why can't people be allowed to state their opinion without being told we're being childish, or basically being told to get a life? The latter of which is the most hypocritical thing anyone could say here on the forums of one of the biggest video-game manufacturer's website.

Plenty of people state their opinions without consequences. It's when your opinions are childish or wrong that you get corrected. The fact that you react this way is further proof. Some people automatically assume that Bungie or other 'elitists' are out to prove you wrong, which is not a mature way of approaching issues.

There are those who make it a point to make an ass of themselves by constantly flaming, but there are plenty of others that let people say things, even if those things are wrong. Moderators included.

There's so much I could argue with on here, but I just can't be bothered. Some of you are so loyal to preserving this false 'aura' of eliteness that you've blinded yourselves. You can't see past the fact of 'sucking up and not answering back' = possibly being ranked higher (have a guess as to what I'm getting at there). But the sad thing is this. If anyone questions what goes on around here (as any paying customer to any business would), then they're are somehow breaking the 'brown nose' rule around here.
There may be a bit of that feeling of brown-nosing for a better chance at the beta, but how many people do you think honestly believe that their chances hinge on their behavior on this forum? Ever since B.net has been around there have been Bungie defenders and detractors. The fact of the matter is, most gripes are borne out of ignorance or lack of knowledge, such as the complaints coming from the international community. Despite Bungie stating many, many times that this was only the beginning and there would be more opportunities for those around the world to participate, people still come on here and say they've 'lost respect' for Bungie. That makes me lose respect for those people.

I was so angry yesterday and so pissed off that a lot of my good Aussie buddy's have just 10 slots available, that I made a thread on the main forums. Something I vowed I'd never do again. And in just 1 day, I was reminded why I took that vow in the first place. Back to the groups for me...
You should go back to your groups that Bungie is gracious enough to have available for you to complain in. Try getting such treatment from other developers.

I will go ahead and echo the sentiments of Recon when he said something to the effect of people are treating this like a contest to win Christmas presents - no one knows anything for sure, and they're complaining like they're sure they received coal. First, it's not a present, it's testing. Second, no one really knows anything except that the Halo 3 beta will begin in the spring and that registration is open to N. America and will be available internationally at some point. Do you really think that Bungie could glean anything really useful out of 5 stinking people in New Zealand?

And for the record, it was never stated that the beta would be 'open', only 'public'.

Public != open

And for those who are likewise complaining that games are released in the U.S. before Europe (or elsewhere), just look at the Harry Potter series. There are millions of fans in the U.S. that have to wait an extra month after the U.K. before the books are made available here. The same goes for many Japanese-released games.

This kind of thread makes me angry. It's an attempt at intelligent rebellion but comes across as ignorant anger.

BAH

Pezza, sorry for your troubles. I wouldn't worry, though, Bungie isn't out to screw you :)

I think Bungie's just being racist.

STUPIDEST thing i have ever read on these forums. But i dont hold you responsible, i think you just got caught up in the moment.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion so here is mine.

First of all, this beta didn't have to happen. Halo 2 was released and as far as networking was concerned, i have yet to see any problems keeping people from playing online. Aside from the cheating i would say they were pretty damn successful in getting the networking down for live. Bungie could have went on without putting a beta out, and not have had any problems. But bungie being bungie and so nice and everything decided that doing a beta would be benificial to everyone in the end.

Now if you ask me, i see almost 90% of the responses in this thread as a slap in the face, especially the one above mine about bungie being racist. I am a bungie fanboy at heart, but i will be the first to tell you if i think they have ever done anything wrong. They are basically going to go out of their way in order to put this beta out there for us and all you guys can do is complain. Sure right now things arent the way most of you want them to be, but if you will take a second to not only read, but comprehend/understand what they are saying maybe it will become clear. Now obviously i hate to admit it but not everyone who wants to play this will get the chance, sure a lot will but some will not, and you know what? thats life. If you have a problem with it, move on. Sure playing the beta would be kick ass and it would be fun to rub in your friends faces and providing feedback on a game that is out of this world is going to be killer.

What im trying to get at, is dont be an -blam!- towards bungie. I think its great they are trying to include the fans in the production of this game. If you dont like the way things are being run and your going to be a jerk then dont comment or accuse them of anything. They arent perfect.

Feel free to constructively debate your concerns or wishes but always do so in a civil and mature manner.

I can emphathize with the concerns although I don't understand the hostility. The Halo community has heaps of time, and I'm sure a lot of information to receive, until Spring of 07'.

What gets me is that 600 slots in UK and 15 slots in AUS has been given away to random websites to boost their hits. The worst part is you are being encouraged to beg for a chance to help Bungie test their game. It is very degrading and more than annoying.

It is nice to be reassured that there are more slots available but the fact they're giving away a lot of these slots for hype and commercial purposes is very upsetting. By not begging you are throwing away chances to test this game. Those slots could have gone towards an actual sign up sheet instead of this; what is simply a joke at the fans expense.

I will assume that Microsoft are behind this moreso than Bungie. I also don't doubt that Achronos is also unable to explain because he is obligated to by contract (so that the hype isn't blown), we can't get more information, that's understandable. But this whole thing hurts, everyone knows it hurts, and it worries me that people on this forum don't have a problem with it simply because Bungie is connected to it.

Edit: I read a couple of other threads which led me to add a comment. The reason this topic isn't dead, isn't because of whining. It's because there is still plenty to say. There is nothing else to say to Achronos, and there's nothing more Achronos can say to us. But as for members, there are a lot of points for discussion.

Just checked, turns out that there currently are around 200 spots available in the Netherlands. But to get a spot you have to enter a competition, and to enter to those competitions, you have to be a registered member of some website. A bummer to say the least, since that means I'm out of luck. But I'm not worried, yet. Since there still could be other ways to enter the beta.

This is something I have to agree with. It's a bit of a shame that the beta is presented as some sort of "price" we can win, a quick way to make sure you get to play Halo 3 before others do, rather than what it's supposed to be: A way for us to help make sure that halo 3 will be a high-end quality product when it finally ships.

I guess it seems most of the Mods arent from the US. HMM interesting, but anyway

You still have to look at this issue from many different ways and Angles. The game is mostly sold and more money is from the United States. Now X-box live is everywhere but concentrating on the place where your going to make the most money possible is the best way to take this. Of coarse people are going to be mad about it but the fact remains this is what actually is happening. I doubt bungie is the one who said only 200 spots and i bet it was Microsoft. Again would you want the most accurate data come from the place where the majority of the people play it

True but, them geting to play the game could be all bungie needs. Its just a way to get the beta out to a more selective group, rather than the first 200 to fill out the form.

Not only does pezza have a 1 in over 20,000,000 chance of getting the beta, but the UK only has 600 slots, and oh ya they sold all 600 slots to websites for competitions. Ya, that's wonderful.

1. There will be more than 10 spots open for the beta in Australia.

2. Even if Pezza was competing for one of 10 spots with everyone in Australia, from newborn infant to 100yr old women, his odds would be 1 in 2,000,000. I would assume that the percentage of gamers that actually know about the beta and have the means to participate greatly increases those odds. Granted, if there were only 10 spots available, the odds are still pretty low.

Seriously people, I dont know what it is about this topic that makes everyone throw common sense out the window and embrace pure emotion. Achronos has done everything he is legally allowed to do to try to point out that there will be more spots available.

I just dont get why normally sensible members are reverting to the "Screw you Bungie, Im pissed off, and no matter what you say, I'm still going to be pissed off just for the sake of being pissed off" attitude. No one has directly come out and said that Bungie owes them anything, but there is a hell of a lot of entitlement spread throughout this thread.

Concerning doing stupid tricks for a beta slot, I have mixed feelings. Yeah, it would be nice to not have to write an essay or become a random member of some website, but which is greater, your desire to play the beta or your desire to not have to write an essay? Tell me who is a bigger fan of Bungie, someone who -blam!-es about writing an essay to get a beta slot, or someone who writes the essay? Who has the greater desire to get a slot? As JAF stated though, its sad that slots are be "sold" to private sites instead of being used used for thier intended purpose, which is to make Halo 3 a better game. It will still achieve that purpose, but it doesnt make it suck any less. Go capitalism.

Posted by: Pezza
As for the moderators, it isn't really their fault but they need to recognise that blind patriotism to Bungie does not make their opinions better than those actually experiencing the issue first hand.

How does using common sense to understand that we don't know everything we need to in order to come to a sensible conclusion constitute blind patriotism? Replace the word Bungie with anything and it would still be childish to react this way when there is still lots of information on the topic that we dont know.

Achronos is the webmaster. He also acts as a moderator when necessary. However, he is first and foremost a Bungie employee. Stosh, Frankie, KP, ninja on fire, and skiptrace are also Bungie employees first, then moderators. Shishka is a contract employee, as well as a moderator. The rest of the moderating staff are volunteers, and are NOT Bungie employees.

So no, you didnt win, you weren't even in the game.
