Subject: Bungie Fans

(random yet funny signature goes here)

Is it just me or are we the Bungie fans some of the worst fans in the world. I mean sure we have a great community, yet if one little thing goes out of place (beta, glitchers in the humpday, and any other thing that goes wrong) we all throw a big temper tantrum and act like it's the end of the world. Not to mention if someone new comes along and says something stupid, the community including a few mods flame them horribly (I'm sure someone will want to flame this). I mean, we're a big unruly mob of angry fans most of the time. On live, you can't kill a person without hearing how they slept with your mom or how youre a blam of some sort. Just my oppinion, but we're horrible people.

Eh, I think there's a select few (loud) whiners, but most of the community takes things pretty well..

Not everyone.

I used to be the biggest Anti-Halo guy out there, until I gave up my die hard Nintendo Fanboi ways (though I'm still a huge Nintendo fan) and gave it a chance.

And I've come to like it. I like the game, and I liked the people that made it so much that it lead me here, where I learned of Bungie's history. And there are plenty of people who support Bungie. Swing by the Halo 3 Forum and you'll see (among the ocean waves of spam) all the support they're getting.

What you're seeing is disgruntled fans. And seeing as how people notice the anamolies, they get a little more attention than the actual fans, because we want to see why they aren't satisfied with their products.

They have a right to. Sometimes it's a good thing, because Bungie can see what's wrong. The bad part is that after the explanation and debate is over, if the ranting still continues, then it's just whining, that's all.

Is it possible to revoke your Bungie fanship?

In all honesty, I think that's a gross exaggeration. From what I see, 70% of the time 90% of the people here in the Septagon are relatively kind and rational people.

Then again, I can be a bit naive in believing that some people might actually be good-natured. But "we" aren't horrible people. Offending someone for the sake of offending that person is horrible, but sometimes people like to make jokes. There's a line, but no one knows where the line is for everyone. Then of course, there are people who over-react to a situation and think about themselves rather than others. But even that is fairly rare. So really, "we" aren't bad people, "we're" just humans.

Well, not everybody. The people who do argue, and disagree with Bungie in a crude way are Trolls.

It's also a good thing, like ICEMAN stated, because Bungie can see the problem. That's what makes Halo such a good game.

You've got a point, but what would Bungie be like without Fans, that only tell things that should be improved on the Bungie games.

If your referring to the Halo 3 Forum, there is a little too many people that throw fits, because Bungie won't tell them when Halo 3 is going to be released, and more deep information.

That's just the way the forums (or even real life) is and always will be. I like the way you put it. We're just humans.

I'm just noticing that the argument threads are the most popular. They're the only thread an actual bungie employee will post in even (Achronos mainly). They rank up to 10 pages in one whole day at times. They just grab the most attention while the well thought out posts eventually work their way to the bottom untill they fade out into the second page and so on.

Arguments require at least 2 sides.

Argument threads are the most popular.. Why? Oh, because someone disagrees with someone else's opinion. You know who the majority sides with? Bungie.

If anything, the popularity of argument threads show how many people are willing to stand up and fight for Bungie, not against.

It's a good way to vent stress. What can I say? Moderators see a glitch thread, switch to their alts, flame a little and then reverse that and lock it. It keeps the anger (and cursor) off the Unleash Ninjas button.

He watches every Hodgetwin video they put up...on ALL their channels. He calls them the Hodge Triplets, and considers himself the 3rd triplet. He's started talking and acting like them now. Every other line out of his mouth "Thaaas some BULLLLLL**** maaayne" or "Gotta make dem gainzzzz". He calls his biceps "gains". When he eats post-workout, he talks to his biceps, "Don't worry gains, I'm feeding you. Daddys gonna feed you, gainz *kisses biceps*".

I thought I was the only one! I used to hate on Halo, Microsoft and Sony to no end because my Nintendo Fanboy-ness required me to. However, when I bought Halo for the PC in 2003, I pretty much forgot about Nintendo. And they've never given me a reason to come back, from their BS rehashes to their ridiculous gimmicks, to their insistence that graphics don't matter, to their total lack of interest in real shooters, well, the list goes on and on.

On topic, Bungie fans can be good people. I think we're loyal for the most part, but we're not as unquestioning as those Zelda guys are. Seriously. Nintendo could take BS and put it into a box and the fanboys would go nuts.

There are some people who will complain about anything. The fact that there are complainers on the Bungie forums hardly makes them unique. You could go anywhere and there will always be some -blam!- whining about something. They get noticed more because they complain more often and all of a sudden it looks like we have a -blam!- community. If you ignore them things will work out, or at least seem better.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

It's just those few guys who make it pretty darn bad. But if you look at it, do you realize how dedicated some of us really are? How much money we spend on Halo related stuff? I buy all the books and games, along with paying $70 per year, (Which is a lot for a guy with no income) for my site's hosting and domain. I put in lots of hard time and effort into improving it. A lot of us have the hard dedication. It's just our dedication doesn't stick out as much as other people's "faults" if you will.

I like Valve...

If you're talking about the beta threads that popped up, then I think its understandable (but I do think people are starting to take it overboard). I mean we're told about a public beta, and then on the day of registration, people in other countries find that there are only 5 or whatever spots open.

Up to that point people assumed it would be rather simple thing to get hold of this beta, I'd think it would of similar to the PSU beta on the 360 where you were able to download and play for free for a few days while they stress test the servers. I don't think many (or anyone for that fact) went hey, I bet this thing will be limited for awhile and I may not get to play it during the first round. I looked at the last few update (more like a peak) and I couldn't find anything that remotely hinted at this thing being limited to so few people at anytime. So its just as if the information came from thin air so people get mad because they were told they were going to get something but not necessarily happy at how.

My small stupid analogy of this. Let's say a friend said he would give you five bucks on Saturday (For the perfectionists out there, just go along with it and don't ask why someone would just give you money and if you say "its only five bucks" add a 1 and two zeros to that.). Saturday comes and he has the money but says, I can only give you a dollar today and maybe one for the next few weeks until its all gone. So your sitting here going, "Ok he has it right here in front of me, how come I can't have it all?", and then you conclude that the whole thing is stupid because you aren't getting what you were promised when you wanted it. (Yeah, its a flawed analogy, but I said it was stupid).

That's what Bungie seems to be doing right now (although I think Microsoft is the one is really telling them what they can and can't reveal). Promising something and then not telling us all the details. If they probably said from the start that it would be very limited, but everyone would still get there turn, I'm sure this wouldn't of gone as far as it did. Of course, add in someone who's already been pushed over the line enough in the last few days and you're going to get him and others angry.

If you don't got it, you want it. If you got it, you want more of it. Of course if you don't know what it is, it's hard to get any in the first place.

It seems like the community used to be a tad better behaved back in the Pre-Halo days, but I could just be imagining things...

Overall we're pretty good for a fancommunity, so long as you don't include the people who soley come on here to

A) Spam up the Halo 3 forum
B) Act stupid in New Mombassa
C) Whine in Optimatch.

Basically axe those people and I have a feeling the the quality would increase by leagues.

*note I have nothing against the brave souls who try and add a dose of logic and rationality into Halo 3, Optimatch, and New Mombassa. May your sacrifice never be in vain. ;p

  • 12.05.2006 7:38 PM PDT

Ach! Was ist los?

There never was a memo. If that was a joke, Ciaran, it wasn't funny.

IRT topic: I used to be a huge Halo fanboy, because Halo was, like, Marathon reloaded and stuff.

Then Halo 2 came and completely drove me away. ILB, 8/24, the whole Lloyddamn thing.

I used to be seen as a fairly upstanding member of the community's oldschool section. I was one of the people who helped newcomers get acquainted with the Bungie classics. It was fun and I liked it.

Then they made me a ninja and I no longer have the time for that or the half-dozen Bungie-related projects I worked on for years. I get so much hate mail that coming here feels like a chore rather than a reward.

And now you want to know why we come across as vicious bastards?

lolz @ TGP's editing skillz...
I recently quit Halo PC, due to the massive amount of total -blam!-s who play it. I'm not just talking about botters/hackers, but about people who just don't play fair. I'm talking about the clan servers, where there are 5-6 pro players on a team, versus a bunch of casuals. Or the smaller servers, where, again, 'pros' come in, and gang up on the casuals. I got sick of it, so I quit. I now hover among my many other games, none of which are anywhere near as fun. In short, the Halo PC community sux. I just hope it's not an indicator of the rest of the Bungie community.

Nah. In my opinion, those are two seperate realms, sorta. I think the Bungie Community as a whole is often viewed negatively sometimes because the outcries stick out like a sore thumb, despite the fact Bungie tries their hardest to please everyone.
