"Whatever exists, whatever in creation exists without my knowledge exists without my consent. These anonymous creatures may seem little or nothing in the world. Yet the smallest crumb can devour us. Any smallest thing beneath yon rock out of men's knowing. Only nature can enslave man and only when the existence of each last entity is routed out and made to stand naked before him will he be properly suzerain of the earth."

It seems that the “downfall of the community” and the personality of “Bungie fans” depends on where you go.

If you head to the Underground, a lot of threads get locked because new members see it as the thread where they can post about anything Halo. It’s not necessarily a downfall, just people refusing to read the capitalized print. But plenty of people in the real world already do that, so that shouldn’t be considered a big deal.

If you head to the Septagon, you will find a reasonably well-mannered crowd. I do think that sometimes the community can be extremely hypocritical and rude, but more often than not these people are reasonably kind.

If you head to the Halo 3 Forum, you will encounter the flood of people trying to say the exact same thing. This is just a manner of everyone trying to lead the discussion, and isn’t uncommon in our society right now.

So the apparent “downfall of the community,” if you don’t mind me terming it as such, is actually people acting like people in a smaller setting.

As for the “Bungie fans” portion of the argument, many would claim that there is a difference between a “Bungie” fan and a “Halo” fan. However, if we just expand the terminology to include everyone on Bungie.net, then you simply get a collection of human beings. And as someone has already brought up, there are good apples and bad apples. The problem is that you only need one bad apple to spoil the bunch, and it seems we have a whole lot of bad apples that do plenty of spoiling.

(random yet funny signature goes here)

A very nice sum of everything Mabian. I still believe that the bad apples outnumber the good apples, though. Just because I can't see the good apples in the bottom of the barrel doesn't mean I don't believe they're there.

I don't think it's merely people acting like people. Sure, there is a sentiment of 'leading the discussion', but if you put 500 people into a room, they are going to break off into groups and have small discussions.

What you should really call it is 'normal immaturity manifesting itself'. The fact is, we all want to be heard, but those of us who are a bit older and/or mature (age does not mean maturity) will exhibit a modicum of restraint.

But in general isn't that the same thing? People want to be heard and acknowledged. Some people have had enough experience to know that they know that simply yelling or restating your opinion won't get you far. It sounds like we're saying the exact same thing in different wording.
