Just out of curiousity, do more privilaged bungie.net users have the "Ban IP' button available? It can be extremely useful for those pesky little guys who come back with new usernames. For example, that continued posting of the "Noob of the week award" by whatever his name is. Wouldn't a "Ban IP" help so much more???

Nah, only the higher ups should ever have that power. Though if I had to choose one member to have an IP ban button.....it would be Mabian. And he could only use it once :-PLawl. But IP bans don't work. They're easily avoidable, for those who have dynamic ones (which is the majority.)*edit* (Clarity) By privileged, do you mean the admins? If so, sorry for misinterpreting. Anywho, they do have that power. It just doesn't work as well as we think it should.[Edited on 12/5/2006]

On a forum of this size an IP ban would take out so many innocent parties as well that the spammers would actually do more damage by getting banned.--- Steve reminds members that it's best to just message or email a Moderator in cases of spamming. If you don't reply, spam loses a lot of its impact.

Ineffective, but I wonder if their are other options then the traditional "cookie" ban.
Yea, I guess I didn't realize how many people are actually on here. They are great for smaller ones though. Well, I should hope that admins have IP ban, but i dont think mods do. Well, I know the mods dont now.... I brought this up because of the in-effectiveness of the typical 7 day or perma-ban. I mean, they can just come in with a new account.
You could hit too many people (ie. Wikipedia banning all Western Australian schools from editing because of a few select schools), or the people being banned have dynamic IPs (which is pretty likely, knowing them).Just message us (This helps) and ignore it.-TGP-
So are those dates and times last log in or last post?

Posted by: Scythe252So are those dates and times last log in or last post? It will more or less track a moderator. Minute by minute. Although sometimes it will freeze for a couple minutes so be patient(sp?).[Edited on 12/5/2006]
Patient.Actually, it goes by when they use an in-site link or button. Basically, whenever a mod's computer communicates with B.net's, their time refreshes.
A majority of peoples IP addresses are dynamic, meaning they change. So an IP ban simply means "oh no, I've gotta restart my router and PC and I'm back to posting"
Maybe Bungie could hire l33t haxxorz to fry the spammers' computers? Would that work?

The mods can just keep banning em. I'm sure that never gets boring... [/sarcasm]
