I use to look forward to new montages, gameplays, and any other vids posted at New Mombasa, but unfortunately that can't happen anymore. So I guess I'm agreeing with you matt. It is losing it's pizazz.

As you say, the H3 Forum is a no go zone, and hostility levels seem to be increasing a bit.

I prefer the Halo 3 forum to The Septagon actually. Maybe losing your hostility to specific forums is the solution to your problem.

*cough* *splutter* You prefer the Halo 3 Forum??

We're talking about the same forum right? The one filled with kids, where you can't get a say in because new threads jump to page 2 a minute after they're posted?

Umm... yes. In fact, your post is a prime example of why, no offence.

QFT on this. worst thing about the septagon is every thread has either copy/paste replies from forumcop / mod wanabees,
or OMG LOL HALO3 SUCKS I LIKE SEPTAGON HEY LOOK AT ME MODERATORS HEY OVER HERE HEY!

Wait til Halo 3 comes out, then the forums will have their "buzz" again. That's a year away, however. Same thing happened with Halo 2.

"Whatever exists, whatever in creation exists without my knowledge exists without my consent. These anonymous creatures may seem little or nothing in the world. Yet the smallest crumb can devour us. Any smallest thing beneath yon rock out of men's knowing. Only nature can enslave man and only when the existence of each last entity is routed out and made to stand naked before him will he be properly suzerain of the earth."

Actually, those are all pretty good reasons to quit, I suppose.

I keep having this problem of coming into a thread too late to have anything meaningful to say. So I simply decide to head back to my chapters, where I can ask people questions until their brains explode.

Yet, I always check back every 15 minutes to see what’s new.

I don’t see the community as becoming more hostile, but that topics are simply coming up that annoy specific people. (i.e. Forum Cops, ranks, rule changes, moderators, beta tests) It only seems natural that you will have at least one angry party in an argument, and the situation matters to so many that we have multiple angry parties. So people get red in the face, insult each other, perhaps even yell a bit, but the next day, or even the same day in another thread, those same people can have a civil conversation as if the argument had never occurred. It sort of depends on whether you look at specific situations and focus on them or if you look at everything at once.

I will agree that the forums have gotten a bit redundant. At least, in the sense that in a lot of forums there is a “topic of the week/month” that is discussed to death until another topic is chosen. But here in the Septagon I don’t think of too many of the topics as being redundant. Maybe a couple every one in a while, but it’s usually a very slow-paced forum, so problems get solved quickly. And I like slow-paces.

As for apathy, I’m not quite sure if I understand. Do the people hate coming here? I’m not quite sure how many people actually feel that way. I don’t. I’m sure Iceman doesn’t. There’s two people right there.

And perhaps, as a couple people have said, it’s just part of the sinusoidal nature of these forums. They go up, then they go down, then they go back up. It seems that this same thing occurred a while back, where people got bored and left.

The Frozen Minority - The most infamous clan borne from the Seventh Column.

I'm just finding myself becoming more reclusive. Especially retreating back into the groups. The constant breathing down my neck every time I make an action, the constant attempts to undermine what little authority I have, the blatant attempts to destabilise me whenever I post are getting boring for me.

So I am just being quieter when I actually moderate. I only discuss what I think of things in the groups now, the last time I expressed my thoughts was in the Halo 3 beta threads, where my opinion was called "childish and wrong".
Which made me laugh.

I still love the website but the community is getting overly hostile.

As for the Septagon... I used to have utmost respect for this place, back before everyone started posting constant moderator threads and blindly agreeing with anyone in an authoritave position. Personal opinions are totally pushed to the wayside whenever a chance to agree with a mod appears.

I'm sure it will pick up soon though, things always pick up.

I'll agree that the community is becoming a bit hostile.

Is it justified? Nope. Understandable? Yes.

I find people are asking me (especially recently) "Don't the idiots in this forum get to you at times?" And I respond honestly: "Yes."

But I'll refrain from flaming. Always. Because people were patient with me when I first started here and I feel I, and we as a community, need to be patient with others. But as of late, I feel everyone's patience is growing thin.

Today in Optimatch someone made an a thread that was begging to be flame baited. And I even responded saying "Optimatch is getting dumber and dumber each day." I didn't want to say that, but I did. But I made sure to answer the question anyway, just in case the person was actually serious.

That aside, I've noticed people rarely have anything nice or constructive to say anymore. Or at least in Optimatch, New Mombasa, and Halo 3 forum. The Flood is..........The Flood, and The Septagon is more or less ok, save the constant attention to the administration as of late.

But this is just the way this cycle goes. I've only been here for.......what, 8 months now? And I've noticed it was this way before. Then it became quiet (as in not so much criticism being thrown everywhere.)

However, this is a forum where the 'younger' crowd is dominant. But I'm only 20 (well, very close at least) and I feel like there's a huge gap in the maturity between me and the people 3-4 years younger than me. Maybe some people are a lot more patient than others. Maybe some just don't like to flame. Maybe others feel the need to be sarcastic asses 24/7.

Whatever the reason, it's just another day at Bungie.net.

Ach! Was ist los?

(circumstances are cyclical)

Things go up and down, again and again. When it's going up, enjoy it for all it's worth.

When it's going down, move over and let me have a turn.

Pezza, you could just delete/lock/ban without saying anything. You know, act like a good ninja :)

But I understand your frustration. If I were in your shoes, I'd probably feel similarly.

Quoted for truth.

Oh, the irony!

On a slightly more serious note (I think that's becoming my catchphrase), I do see that all the time. People with no spines who agree with everything the mods say. I find it amusing, honestly. Example:

Member Posts: My X-Button Theory!
Replies: Your theory sucks! How would that even work, you dumbass! I hope you get some horrible disease and DIE!

Moderator Posts: My X-Button Theory!
Replies: Oh yeah, that's such a good idea! There's nothing wrong with that!

They could be the same theory, and just because a moderator (or ICEMAN, for that matter, : P) says it, (almost) everyone becomes little sycophants.

I believe what I believe. I don't dictate my beliefs on what people of higher authority believe. Granted, I tend to agree with the mods in honesty, but people often mistake that for kissass-ery, which it's not.

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

I know that there is more activity on this site due to the Beta and commercial subjects, but it doesn't really seem that different to me. Most everyone has been talking about an increase in hostility, but I haven't seen it. Maybe that's because I don't venture into the H3 forum, Optimatch, or New Mombassa that often; but the way everyone is talking makes it seem like there is a lot of anger everywere.

Well, I don't see any difference. A year ago it was sometimes good, sometimes bad, but it was always B.net, and I just assumed that was the way things worked here. But maybe I'm naive. Who knows?

In as far as B.net loosing its "pizzaz", that's bound to happen eventually. It goes in circles (just as someone said earlier, sorry, I can't remember you name now), and everyone experiences it. Some go, some stay, some change. I think that Sketchfactor would have left permanently if he wasn't such an important part of this site. If even he can get tired of this site, anyone else can too.

I've actually been through 2 cycle so far. I was very exited every time I logged in when I first came here. Then I got bored so I left. I came back in mid 05 and was again very energetic about the Bungie community, but then I left again. Now I'm back again. I was getting bored for a little while, so I changed the way I interacted on the forums, and in my chapters. I've made it longer this time than my two previous trys, and I don't think I'll be leaving again. I love it here.

I too have noticed things have been getting crazier and crazier around here, and as a result, I haven't been posting as much.

Here's hoping a month or two after Halo 3 is released (or sooner for that matter), the forums will settle down a bit.

I actually enjoy arguing with mods.
Anyway, yes, B.net is getting a bit tiresome. Perhaps if we had one whole SITE dedicated to all things Halo 3, without links to the rest of B.net, it may improve.
On a mildly unrelated topic, maybe the H3 forum should be moved to a separate server prior to release, to prevent massive server load affecting the rest of B.net?

-EDIT- lol, the first time I hit 'submit', I got this:
Forum Error: Unable to create post

There has been an error processing your forum page request. It seems the underlying error was: Transaction (Process ID 125) was deadlocked on lock resources with another process and has been chosen as the deadlock victim. Rerun the transaction. Can I get a translation please?

It means that too many things were going on on the server at the time you hit 'submit' so it chose not to do what you wanted, and told you to try to post again.

I foresee a few more weeks of chaos, and, barring any major news/releases from Bungie in the next few months, a lull just after the holidays until more beta stuff happens.

When the beta hits, it will be non-stop complaining from those that were rejected, or from those who play the beta and didn't know what to expect, or those who are getting 'pwned' while playing the beta.... The complaining never really ends around here, does it?

(random yet funny signature goes here)

I bet the forums go even crazier when Halo 3 comes out, not settle down. Everyones gonna wanna say the same thing over and over (like with the commercial) but over every little tiny detail. People will be putting fake easter eggs, etc. People will be flamed for putting up false info or otherwise. What if the ending is as crappy as Halo 2 was? I can only imagine how hard to even come here will be if that happens.

That's very likely to happen. When H3 comes out, we're all going to have to run and hide from these forums. I hope the mods don't plan onsleeping or playing the actual game when that happens. Sorry guys, but you know its going to be a mess.

It will be a mess. It is inevitable.

I enjoy the increased hostility and anger on these forums. In many ways, Bungie is asking for it. I'm not so sure that they don't want this anger and hostility on their forums. I welcome flaming and spam on the forums. The Underground is rich with spam recently. And the anger in the Halo 3, New Mombassa, and the Optimatch forums has definitely increased, with people arguing over GoW and SWAT getting removed. I think the anger will only increase, not decrease when Halo 3 comes out. The more Bungie releases, the more members will join and the worse it will get. And I can't wait. The more flamming and the more spam the better.

Good question my friend. I do not think that the moderators realize that absolute doom awaits them. I look forward to helping fuel the fire.

I like to think of all the people here as real people with real lives. Thus I try not to offend them because I don't konw whether or not they're packing.

I think Bungie should just nuke* all of these forums and start it all over again.

Wouldnt the common sense thing to do for the H3 thread is simply make a few more OFFICIAL threads dedicated to:

1. New "Stuff"
2. Wouldnt it be cool if.....
3. Did you see the(insert latest release)
4. There was an easter egg in(insert latest release)

There would be a few more, but I mean really, most of the topics in there are repeats from yesterday. Its always stuff about the latest media file, some weapon/duals combo that is either rediculously strong or rediculously stupid, and a few random conspiracy theorists mixed in with random threads that get 1 reply(from the OP) and die.

Putting them all in 1 spot would make it like new mombasa in that people can all talk about stuff that isnt gonna happen in 3 small discrete threads.

Just something I noticed.
