so iv had halo pc a while
exept i recently lost the cd, i think i threw it out on accident, but i still have the box and all the papers and the cd key
so i figured, maybe if i download an iso and burn it it could work as a cd so i did that, reinstalled, it played fine in campaign but as soon as i tried multiplayer it said could not conect to the halo network, usually it goes to download the newest patch because i never patched it after installing. but it didnt so i went and downloaded the 1.6 patch myself and now whenever i try to start it up it tells me to insert the cd.
what do i do?

I'm pretty sure it means that you can't connect to gamespy. I think it has something to do with your firewall. I'm not sure though. Maybe someone can give you more details than i can. But try reinstalling gamespy.

Did you take the ISO of the entire disk with CAB files and installed using it? Some ISOs only come with files to play the game, not the install.

well i downloaded the iso off of demonoid (a private torrent hosting site)
and i burned it onto a normal cd-rw at 2x speed which is the slowest my drive goes and its worked fine, i then installed the game from the cd i just burnt with the cd key that came with the game i bought at wal-mart about 2 years ago for 28.99 + tax.

ps
the game installed fine and i was playing campaign, i got to truth and reconciliation on normal difficulty before i decided to play multi player and patch the game to the 1.6 version which i believe is the most recent, correct me if im wrong. after i installed the patch, i clicked on the halo icon on my desktop which i believe runs halo.exe. it starts to load, but before it exits my desktop and goes into the fullscreen game it says it can not locate the halo cd-rom and to please insert the correct halo cd-rom then press ok to restart the application.

i hope thats enough info.

Copy protection. The patch probably installed SecuRom 7 or a similar copy protection program.

Ohhh. Ok, i went back and re-read the first post. I guess i missed the part where it says "Insert CD". My bad. Gamespy has nothing to do with it.

There is no cracked executable for Halo V1.07 as of now. And there probably won't ever be one. However there is a mini image you can mount on Daemontools. But I'm not giving out that info.

whoa whoa isos and cd images, i believe that's not allowed here...Sure you probably won't get banned like Nessy, since you supposedly bought halo, but this really isn't the place to go asking...

Call Microsoft, ask for a new one. I would give you the number, but I don't know it. You could also send them a letter with an explanation, a request for a new CD, $9.95 S&H and you CD key. Make sure you write "PERSONAL" really big on the envelope so it might make it to Bill Gates desk.

That's why I'm not saying where he can find any cracks or mini-images. I don't want to go on vacation.

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

I broke my disc ages ago. There's copy protection on the original CD that prevents you from using a backup to play. Think of it as a deliberately mauled CD that no CD-R can match. If you really can't afford the $20 to purchase another disc, try hunting around for images that work with Daemon Tools. Trust me though, it's less of a hassle to raise a few bucks and purchase another retail disc.
