Subject: Do Mods Have Standing Orders to Delete Accurate Predictions?

"I pledge to punch all switches, to never shoot where I could use grenades, to admit the existence of no level except Total Carnage, to never use caps lock as my "run" key, and to never, ever, leave a single BoB alive."

2B || !2B - Why don't you look Inside the Machine?

I don't think so. It isn't like Bungie says "Oh Snap! Someone figured out that this happens. Lets totally confirm it by deleting that thread!"

Rather they would probably just ignore it.

Try "The Septagon" for fourm questions! Thats the best chance to get a mod response, this one might get locked!

With a few exceptions, the mods are not employees and therefore wouldn't know if someone predicted something right in the first place. For how many theories I have seen and read, I doubt one of the exception mods would delete it anyway. There are just so many for it to be camoflauged in with.

well, hypothetically, let's say someone figured out an accurate synopsis of Halo 3's plot, and the mods of this site saw it. would they delete the topic?

We wouldn't know it was an accurate synopsis until the game came out. We're volunteers, not Bungie staffers, and have absolutely no access to any Halo material beyond what the rest of us fans do.

First of all, the large majority of the mods don't even work for Bungie, so they know as much about H3 as we do. Secondly, any accurate prediction about Halo 3 is mere speculation until the game comes out. Besides, if Shishka, Achronos, Frankie or any other Bungie employee see something that's correct, they sure as hell aren't going to let us in on it.

So even an accurate prediction will remain just that, a prediction. Swimming in the sess pool of half baked ideas and ill thought out story arcs currently residing in the Halo 3 forum.

I hate everything, but it's not my fault.

Yeah, we only worry about leaks, and we don't know the real story anyway. Although Sketchfactor asked Eagle 117 to stop posting theories because he was getting too close to the tru7h.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

Most of the mods dont work at bungie and some of them may not even be adults yet.

I doubt they would know.

Basically, all the mods know is:
Halo 3 = THE END.
But even then, is it really?

Its hard to tell sometimes. I don't know who Eagle 117 is, but Sketchfactor is a bungie employee. So he would know all the secrets. But Ghandi is probably joking.

This idea assumes that Bungie moderators know the plot of Halo 3. For the most part they don't. How can they delete accurate predictions if they don't have the information to tell if they are accurate or not?

Well If I remember right, Eagle 117 was the first bungie.net member to find the blind skull, and we all know what that lead to.

Eagle 117 is the founder of The Watchers. They have lotsa theories...

He was an amazing theorist. Search his name, you'll be sure to find some very good theories. It wouldn't suprise me if Ghandi wasn't joking.

Eagle didn't find the Blind Skull, he just posted a lot of well thought out speculation about Halo 2. After the leak of Halo 2 Sketch asked him to stop posting because someone may post the Tru7h in one of his threads and spoil the game for others, and Sketch said they would be deleting speculation about Halo 2 at that point to try to prevent leaks.

Here is the PM that Sketch sent him:

“hey Eagle - I know how active you've been in theorizing about various aspects of Halo 2.. I wanted to let you know that we're prohibiting any further discussion about what is or isn't going to happen in Halo 2. In light of the game leak, there will be people in those discussions who actually know the truth and they'll just pretend to guess and then in a few weeks say "see, I was right!" So rather than have the true story come out as a "guess" in these types of discussions, we're going to delete any posts of this nature. I didn't want you to get caught off guard or upset. Hopefully you understand.

I hate everything, but it's not my fault.

Oh, I must have been slightly misinformed.

You should look up his pre-Halo 2 release theory. It was very good, and I suspect that Bungie changed the plot so he wouldn't be right (although I have no way to verify this, very little basis for thinking it, and this should in no way be taken as more than a half-serious joke). In many ways I liked his plot a lot more than Halo 2's actual plot.

-S

As has been pointed out, the majority of the mods know just as much as you do.

Those of that know more sure as hell aren't giving anything away.

What the moderators have been told is that they are to take seriously any claim that information is not theoretical but genuine; that the user acquired the information in question by knowing someone from Bungie (through any degree of seperation), or that they themselves are a Bungie or Microsoft employee that has chosen to leak information. People who make these kind of implications are banned from the forums without recourse.

Similarly, the people that actually DO leak information, such as people who post scans of a magazine before its off store shelves, or people who somehow get their hands on content before its planned release (as was the case when the french version of Halo 2 was leaked to the world early) are also banned immediately with no chance of appeal.

How do the moderators that don't work for Bungie know the difference? They don't. And with the rules set up the way they are, they don't have to know, either. Worst case scenario, they're stopping some jerk from spoiling the fun for other gamers. Best case, they're stopping some attention-needy jackass from getting their fill.

Snipped.

And there you have it. He goes over this in the H3 stickies too.

Good thing I have no desire to know anything about the game before it comes out. Not only because I want to ruin anything for myself, but also so Shishka doesn't have to kill me for leaking things.

Although speculation seems to be fine. I may read it if I aquire the urge.
