For some reason, Halo continues to glitch. It locks up and doesn't respond to anything. I have to go out and force-quit it in order to get things going again. It happens in gameplay, when joining a server online, but most often it happens in the menu. I'll press a button, and the cursor stops moving, and the music loops over and over again. It has always done this, but now it happens more often. I was just playing a minute or so again, and in a period of about thirty or forty minutes, I had to force-quit and start over, just because it did that. Any suggestions?

I get that as well. It's just because the game is old and not really all that optimized too well.

I seem to remember when I first bought Halo from Futureshop it ran pretty well, but it started getting slow after the V1.05 patch. My theory is that all the patches created a lot of unused or redundant code. That bloated code's probably what causes the game to slow down or freeze altogether.

But I dunno, I've never stripped Halo down and looked at the bare code. So I'm just spewing theories from my ass.

Interesting, thats where it came from in the first place.

What? My ass? Isn't that what I said?

Yes, my theory has issued forth from my rectum like so many nachos and bean dip. Last time I ever go to a Mexican restaraunt. The Tequila was good though...

I meant the code.

Ach! Was ist los?

I honestly don't get what's up with Halo PC. It works fine on my current machine, but had totally random problems on my old Athlon.

My brother has an Opteron box that's never been able to run it properly.

So I thank Gearbox for giving us HL:OpFor and spit on them for giving us this byzantine horror, which I play anyway because it's still better than getting an XBotox.

Yeah, except mine freezes up so badly that I have no option but to restart my computer. At first I thought it was overheating, but that's not the case.

My old computer did that. I would have to kill most of the processes before it would run correctly.

Woohoo!

Also, when exactly does Halo crash? Mine comp occasionally crashes on loading a new multiplayer map with too many people, needing a hard reset.

The bungie.net community is the halo PC community that is renowned for being unbelieveably sucky.

Halo runs fine on both my s940 opteron rigs...using Win XP pro...

The OP's problems definitely sound like overheating CPU or possibly undervolted CPU. What he is describing (the sound looping for example) is textbook.

Whenever I try to join a server, or just in the menu if I hit a button. Not all the time, granted, but enough to be a nuisance.

Also, if I don't turn off one core, Halo gets stuck at the "checking for updates"

CMT Mod team leader

Well you can blame your employer for this "byzantine horror". The game would have been much better had it not been for the Bungie\Microsoft mandate.

Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time. I know who you are. You are destiny.

That happens mostly to me when changing profiles and editing them, and very few times when getting in servers.
