Ok, I was inspired by the unique way the Halo trial mod called "sky bridge" used fallen logs to make a whole base, so I decided to try something like that, but something smaller, can you rate how good it is by

1. Realism, how the extension would hold up in real life.
2. Creativity, how much outside the box did I think?
3. Usefulness, would it be useful in a fight?

If you are talking about the sky base, I based my idea off of it, I didn't imitate it.

Don't do just a log mod, remodel and skin weapons it a better mod then.
Also don't leave a log with the log skin. Its ugly. Its much better if you get a 3d modeler like milk shape and make it a square. After that switch the skin with one closer to the bases textures.

Every time I try skinning, It goes horribly wrong, messes up my files, and I have to reinstall Halo.

What program do you use HHT or HMT?

You might have problems doing any of the following if thats happening.
a. you are not doing it in .DDS type
b. You are doing it in .DDS but your saving in the wrong type.
c. you applied it to the wrong file and caused an exception error.
If its one of the first 2 i suggest you get this [yrl=http://www.mnwright.btinternet.co.uk/download/dxtbmpx.EX E]dxtbmp[/url]
Its very easy to use for it

If you just get exception errors, remember to back up all the map files. This is incase a map get corrupted you have a back-up. Always keep a back up of the bitmap.map files no matter what, alogn with another map so you can get to the bitmaps

Oh yeah, beowulf, I like the medieval feel to it for some reason, and finding metal poles that I can PMI into bloodgulch will take alot of searching.

If you have HHT, you can go under the soso files, shader models.
Look for the tag called, scenery\tree\tree_leafy_stump\shader\tree_leafy_stump
this is where the actual choose of shaders is. Just swap out the bitmap in that tag with one of a metalic bitmap. The one you want is the 1st one in the list. There should be 4 total in the list. Then you can just select another bitmap, you want one of the metal bitmaps.

In terms of practicality, I don't think it's very useful. It's like taking a sniper up to sniper rock behind red base on blood gulch. Sure you get good POV, but once you fire off a shot, you are easily seen, and can easily be shot.

no stare, it will just be in bloodgulch. It also doesn't actually alter the bitmaps either. Just the one being used. It won't make the other trees look like metal if thats what your thinking.

Also Pet0sh, it is a mod so most other people wouldn't even be able to hit you because it will look like your falling. I made a mod like this once. i had a sniper tower in the middle of the level. Each team had access to it via walking into the try on each teams side. I also put a ledge on so the people without the mods wouldn't accidentally walk off, but they could jump off.

Anyways, I still like the logs, but for a metal base looks somewhat awkward, I'd suggest putting it on Timberland.

I thought it was cool. The only wierd thing was the log, I know every "non-removable" objects in FPS games can't really be harmed, with the exception of bullet holes and shrapnel blasts. But if it was in real life, that log sniper foretress would've been blown to smithereens in seconds by a stray rocket in battle. Just a heads up. =) I still liked the mod, keep up the good work dude.

theres a better chance enemy snipers would be camping it so youd walk up to the wooden window and bam ur down. i dont think its a good idea, but good job anyways

You could simply have a teammate create a diversion at the enemy base, walk up to the window crouching, move to the side, get up and quickly shoot him.

The sniper view from the top of the base on a normal Blood Gulch map is obstructed for balance reasons. This extension completely defeats that purpose. It's not a bad idea, just not the right place for it.

I think it would be better if you do something a bit different. Such as put some teleporters inside the bases that lead up to a sniping platform on the back cliff of each base just out of reach of banshees. I have also seen it where people make a very large track on the edges of the cliff with a teleporter on each one behind the bases. Its very fun when you move hogs up to there and people are wondering why there are flying hogs.

I'm doing a mod for Half Life 2? Its a total conversion. I don't realy like Half Life 2 (except the Gravity Gun) i only bought it to mod.

It looks cool, but very impractical. This is Halo, not Ghost Recon, not Gears of War, not Rainbow Six, not Battlefield 2(142), and certainly not America's Army. I'm not saying that you're suggesting it is, but the emphasis on cover or shelter in Halo is pretty small compared to most tactical shooters. You'll just be a sitting duck pinned down on the wooden hut, really.
