Well it appears that Vista Live will have Silver and Gold membership levels. Silver will allow online multiplayer but it appears to a certain extent.

If you're gonna pay for the $50 years subscription to Xbox Live (Gold), you might as well use it with a 360, because you can get so much more out of it. If you pay $50 a year to play a pc game online w/ special features (not sure about that), you're wasting money. Otherwise, it's a good thing if they make multiplayer free.

Be happy with what you get! Microsoft is a company, they sell things...for money *gasp*!

Personaly I'm glad that I don't HAVE to pay, sure I might be a few potions, but thats better than one version that costs something.

So be happy with what you get, all you people do is complain and -blam!- about microsoft being evil. SFTU

but what we can tell you now is that you’ll be able to play H2V online and even interact with your friends on the Xbox 360 at zero cost (although Halo 2 doesn’t support cross-platform multiplayer). Now that said, there are going to be some very tempting reasons for you to upgrade to a full paid Live Gold membership. -- From Matt Priestly in the Update

At least Silver is going to be free.

Here is some possible thing Gold could include:

Friends list important but X-fire handles this pretty well.
Recording - like they are planing for Halo 3, if they didit right would make it tempting but we have FRAPS as a fallback.
Achievements and all that crap the consolers flip over. I could do without them.
Stat-tracking by gamer tag. Drawback would be the hacking to pad the stats.
and then I had an nightmarish thought....
Voice-chat O.O Noooooo!!!!!!!

I had a scary thought. Gold comes with all new software. Silver comes with the old netcode.

I would be out for revenge - like supplying every hacker and pirate I can find with XP and Vista, to be. (lol, rhymed.) Before that, I would work up a big legal loophole, of course. Don't want to get sued when Bill Gates gets his copy.

I hope there is a one/two month trial, or buy H2V and Vista and get 6months free or something...

Ok, I understand the need to charge for MMORPG's and the like, since it's probably ferociously expensive to run those servers. But to charge money to be able to play an FPS online is totally stupid. Well, not really stupid from a business point of view. But I wouldn't pay a dime to play any game online.

I'm already on my way there dude, now that I know how to run games under the Source engine and Know a few emulators, I am preparing for a dual-boot system with Linnux. Oh boy, wait untill microsoft sees me playing Halo with my Wiimote, that will be a kick to thier face. I feel so very anti-M$ right now.

There not charging you to play online, there charging you for SERVICE. You can play xbox online without Live, just not as fun. Same thing here, except theres a free version.

Actually, I think that's what I was getting at. I just used the wrong words. But with everyone saying "this" or "that" it's hard to find anything resembling credible information.

Meh, I'm off to play Goldeneye. For a game as old as it is, it's still quite challenging on 00 Agent.

OMG! I just had a realization, what if only having live silver you can play online, but only with gold will you be able to play custom maps online.

  • 12.09.2006 6:48 AM PDT

What it is.

if you already have a gold membership on the 360 wouldnt that mean you'd have a gold 'Live' subscription...because from what it sounds, they share the same account, as far as gamercards go anyway.

Thank fook for that; I was pretty worried about the live service, but at least there is a basic 1 thats free :D. Otherwise the game would of been pretty much dead and burried before it was released :S

The whole reason I'm buying halo 2 vista is because of the custom content. And if I have to pay to play custom maps then it's totaly idiotinc. So I pray to god that's not a gold feature.
