many believe that ratio means alot, having a positive ratio means your skilled, having a negative ratio means your a noob, but seriously, does it really mean that much? Having a negative ratio (ie. 15 kills, 16 deaths) will make people think your not very good at the game, but it could also mean you are hard at work at getting the flag. I have been tked for the sniper rifle because of my ratio, but that was because I was extremely patient and patient enough to wait for the damn thing. Having a positive ratio (42-15 will make people think you are good at the game, but you could of been sniping afks all game, and sniping selfishly (not sniping for the team).

I am a selective sniper, i pick targets that could be threats (running for a warthog/tank/banshee/ghost), those who are threats, flag carriers, and always keeping an eye on the whereabouts of the opposing team's sniper rifle.

Sure, ratio is good to show in montages, but for all the audiences know, you could've been killing afkers all game.

So, my fellow Mawers, is ratio really all that important?!

So true. Good speech stare. Once Nessy gets back on after his month-worth of blacklisted days, you should show him that. =P

But yeah, I strongly believe in what you are saying too. That's why I assign some of my clan members combat roles in which you don't nessacerily "kill" people. For example, I have a clan Recon in my clan, and his job is to use the sniper scope in order to observe enemy positions, and tell the rest of us through the headset if any threat is nearby, and kill only when nessacery, like if he sees that one of us is in trouble. I also have an official driver/vehicle specialist in the clan, and his job is not to engage in retarded hit-and-run activities, but getting ready to support immediate evac when nessacery.

So yeah, in matches and in serious combat (especially in real life), teamwork and dedication is what counts the most. Heck look at the first sentence of my sig if you don't believe me. xD

I think it means a lot more then most kills, especially if they just lost 3-1 in CTF. I can't stand ppl who crow "Most killz= most skillz" when they're team just got waxed 3-0 in CTF. If you point that out, they say they were covering the flag carrier....and doing a pisspoor job of it.

Anyway I do beleive ratio is important because it shows you are able to kill without being slain...it kind of the whole point of a shooter. I always try to keep my deaths low, but that usually has me avoiding getting into target-rich environments so my kills aren't as high.

Yeah, but it's not necessarily "Most killz=Most skillz", and just because someone has a rocket, doesn't mean they're a noob, because they could be using it strategically, I usually take the tunnel rocket launcher in danger canyon so no-one else can use it, bring it back to my base, and give it to someone, but I do kill people on the way, :D

And a good strategy is to bring stolen vehicles back to the base instead of going off on a suicide mission with them.

Lol, I'm usually an -blam!- and push the enemy's banshees off the edge in Gephyrophobia.

My ratio has always been very variable, mostly 3:2 on average. I always seem to draw a lot of fire in CTF for some reason, though, mainly because I play fairly aggressively. I'm pretty good at dodging, so I've been able to make more kills than deaths. Eh, maybe I just like dancing in the rain of lead the enemy's shooting at me.
If I get the chance I'll go for the flag, of course. But I try to keep my ratio at least above 1:1 and usually throw in a flag cap as well.

EDIT: If you're waiting for the sniper rifle and get a 15:17 kill/death ratio you're wasting a space on your team that could be more profitably spent suppresing the enemy with pistol or AR fire if nothing else.

Of course, the best achievement I think there is is the Ninja Ghost achievement: achieve a score of 3 flags, 0 kills/assists, 0 deaths on a 16 full server. Now THAT is skilful. I did it once on sidewinder, and declared myself the Ghost King of Sarthellien.

Yes, especially in slayer type gametypes.

Well, almost any MAW~ guy here can vouch for me that I may get a 4-26 ratio, but i will get the damn flag/ball/hill and score a lot for my team. I think thats the most important, cause unless it's slayer, kills really show nothing.

What is really dumb is that I do help out, when an enemy warthog comes by, I jump down, nade it, kill the occupants, then return to my waiting spot.

I tend to get around 2-3 kills each time I die, as my tactics generally involve running in and killing a certain target. Then I kinda jump around and throw grenades until I die. My job's always the assassinator of whatever objective it is, in most cases the flag carrier during a CTF stalemate.

Bungie doesn't see gamers any more. They see walking credit cards.

Flag means nothing to me, it shouldn't effect your kills. CTF is just slayer with unlimited points. An occasional flag run isn't bad. I was actually playing DI the other day and got a 2x K-D ratio while doing about 5 warthog flag runs.

I've encountered people very skilled at sniping who sit back at a distance, killing any thing that spawns in or pokes their head out of a doorway. They also keep moving and are hard to kill. They get a massive kill ratio, but never go after the flag.

When I play CTF, I go after the flag. I kill those I have to to get to the enemy base and cap the flag. If they're defending, I die alot. But I usually score a flag or two. Which is more than the guy with the great ratio does.

Speaking of ratios, I've seen people debate whether snipers-no-shields takes skill or is it for noobs. This is how I judge how well I did in a no-shields CTF match: low deaths plus high number of flag caps is good. If you can get the flag and not die much, you're doing good– racking up a high body count is easy, even for noobs. If it's a game with no vehicles, you really need team support to give you covering fire.
