"Whatever exists, whatever in creation exists without my knowledge exists without my consent. These anonymous creatures may seem little or nothing in the world. Yet the smallest crumb can devour us. Any smallest thing beneath yon rock out of men's knowing. Only nature can enslave man and only when the existence of each last entity is routed out and made to stand naked before him will he be properly suzerain of the earth."
Calm down friend. You're beginning to sound like me in one of my philosophical discussions. And this isn't nearly as philosophical as the definition of justice...But since you are asking for that kind of answer, I'll give it a whirl.
To ask us what we hope will happen depends upon the person. Some people are rabid Halo fans who believe they would like to see the Halo franchise continue forever. Whether they would like the outcome, or if Bungie could remain after alienating a portion, though not necessarily the largest portion, of its fanbase, is a question that is up for grabs. Others, myself included, believe that Bungie will try to move away from Halo, on to bigger and hopefully better things, and hopefully the rest of the Halo fans will be patient and learn there is more to gaming than just Halo. But we don't know what Bungie intends to do, it all depends upon what kind of fan you are.
The state of the forums in the future would most likely depend upon the path that Bungie chooses, or perhaps is forced, to walk down. Thus, I will seperate them:
1) Bungie chooses to move onto other things. Some of the more "blind faith" Halo fans will most likely become angry, perhaps yell at Bungie, but they will be silenced and driven out. Then there will be another forum, another game, another cycle. Someone else will ask the same question you're asking. Then Bungie will make Pimps at Sea, and there will be a 1000-year peace.
2) Bungie chooses to continue with Halo. I would imagine that some of the more "battle-hardened" veterans would leave due to boredom and a lack of friends to reminisce with. Some of the people who maintain some level of civility will remain, since we aren't willing to give up that easily. At least not until something like Halo Kart comes out. But until then, some of us, perhaps myself included, will stay behind to remain a voice of reason...one which is most likely going to be ignored. Once Halo Kart comes out, I imagine a great exodus of oldskoolers, which will leave the forums in some state of dishevelment. After that, new members will come along to take our place, and then...I couldn't possibly predict.
I suppose that in summary all I can say is: I dunno. Quit asking.
