Have you ever stopped to think... what will happen with Bungie in the future? What if the key people who make Bungie so awesome leave (like Frankie)? I've been a gamer since the day I was born, and I've seen the rise and fall of some of the greatest game production companies in the world (Infocom, anyone?), so what if the Halo series is Bungie's climax? Will they sink into the shadows, only to disband, quietly, long after many of us have gone on to get jobs? Will they go the way of Infocom and fade into another developer (Activision)? And then what would the future of these forum be? Would the users of the board be forced to support it themselves, or would Microsoft still host it with a few appointed mods? What is Bungie's next great project, will they keep milking Halo until it reminds us of Rocky? Or Star Wars? (Not 007, but Rogue agent REALLY sucked)

And what about the disheveled condition of the forums? They're old and riddled with posts and replies many of us would rather forget (like the multiple political and religious arguments, they don't even deserve to be called debates, they're all laced with hate). It's filled with horrible spelling and people wh0 th1nk 7h15 15 c001. Should we worry about the condition of our youth when it's NESSESSCARY to use profanity filters? Is it people who think 1337 is cool and curse every other word and can't spell who will be the future of Bungie? Are they the people we want supporting Bungie? We can't stop them from joining or supporting, but why are they drawn to us? It got so bad; I had to leave just to get that smut out of my mind. And with the spam and flames, oh the spam! Is the future of Bungie in disgusting processed meat production? We all know that there's enough spam in these forums to end world hunger.

I guess in summary I'd just have to ask: what is Bungie's Plan?

So, is that all you have to say? Is that all the Bungie community has to say about its icon, or itself for that matter? [Busy making a fool of himself by assigning a contraction to a word that didn't need it.]

Too good for what? Explain, I want you to actually think! I want you to elaborate on this stuff (I know you all hear it daily at school, but this is serious!)

What an influx of fanboyism there would be if Bungie disbanded, some people might lose faith in the Xbox, or Microsoft all together. Then (God-forbid) they'd become Sony fans.

Calm down friend. You're beginning to sound like me in one of my philosophical discussions. And this isn't nearly as philosophical as the definition of justice...But since you are asking for that kind of answer, I'll give it a whirl.

To ask us what we hope will happen depends upon the person. Some people are rabid Halo fans who believe they would like to see the Halo franchise continue forever. Whether they would like the outcome, or if Bungie could remain after alienating a portion, though not necessarily the largest portion, of its fanbase, is a question that is up for grabs. Others, myself included, believe that Bungie will try to move away from Halo, on to bigger and hopefully better things, and hopefully the rest of the Halo fans will be patient and learn there is more to gaming than just Halo. But we don't know what Bungie intends to do, it all depends upon what kind of fan you are.

The state of the forums in the future would most likely depend upon the path that Bungie chooses, or perhaps is forced, to walk down. Thus, I will seperate them:

1) Bungie chooses to move onto other things. Some of the more "blind faith" Halo fans will most likely become angry, perhaps yell at Bungie, but they will be silenced and driven out. Then there will be another forum, another game, another cycle. Someone else will ask the same question you're asking. Then Bungie will make Pimps at Sea, and there will be a 1000-year peace.

2) Bungie chooses to continue with Halo. I would imagine that some of the more "battle-hardened" veterans would leave due to boredom and a lack of friends to reminisce with. Some of the people who maintain some level of civility will remain, since we aren't willing to give up that easily. At least not until something like Halo Kart comes out. But until then, some of us, perhaps myself included, will stay behind to remain a voice of reason...one which is most likely going to be ignored. Once Halo Kart comes out, I imagine a great exodus of oldskoolers, which will leave the forums in some state of dishevelment. After that, new members will come along to take our place, and then...I couldn't possibly predict.

I suppose that in summary all I can say is: I dunno. Quit asking.

Hmm, from you I was expecting more of an 'I reject your reality and choose to substitute my own' type of response. Apathy works quite well, as such.

Actually, I was having a wonderful debate with some friends about the nature of reality...how slightly yet delightfully ironic.

You've caught me in a rather odd snare. Usually in the debates I am in your position, so I am trying to defeat myself. It's kind of hard...

2:10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
2:11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
2:12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

Bungie's smart, they'll think of a whole new series.

Ach! Was ist los?

Everything that has a beginning, has an end.

(Gets out calendar, checks projected Halo 3 release timeframe.)

I see the end coming.

I see the darkness spreading.

I see death.

(Pulls out a sawed off Remington 11-87.)

Good thing I'm going to be administering it rather than receiving it.

Bob, no! You have so much to live for. Like...ummm...well...I suppose that movie would be pretty cool.

Ah, screw it. But I'm not cleaning up any of your messes.

I hope you got a lot of ammo Bob. Your gonna need it. But Bungie will last much longer than that fateful day. Provided you don't sleep for about a month, and you don't play H3 at all.

I give 'em five years. Don't know why. After the Halo's have worn off they won't be very popular.

  • 12.09.2006 5:56 AM PDT

Quick as a razor, sharp as a bullet.

If Bungie do go they way of infocom (cannot remember them) they will be absorbed into the all-consuming mass that is Microsoft. Then it will be safe from extinction. That is, until the rise of Tiger Corp. in 2048.

God forbid you send me one of those I was checking for cool gamers and saw you messages too, I will scream to the top of my lungs and smash this damn screen/BlackBerry to pieces! You've been warned -_-

Maybe Bungie can join with Marvel.

News? Podcasts? Machinima? Active forums? Competitions? Jaffa Cakes!? OMG!
Thee Warriors!

Best. Mod. Ever.

Theoretically they should controll the world in just a few years.
In retrospect, maybe Halo Pong, Halo racing and Halo: Massacre at Microsoft are the games of the future.

"And so here at the end of my life, I do once again betray a former
master. The path ahead is fraught with peril. But I will do all I can
to keep it stable - keep you safe. I'm not so foolish to think this

would have my masters know that I have changed. And you shall
be my example." -Mendicant Bias

I would say about ten years. The forums will die down after the Halo franchise is gone. The next game Bungie produces will spark some activity, but I doubt it will be as much as the activity brought about by the Halo games. Eventually, the forums will slowly decay and stagnate...

The way I see it, Bungie will only fail when the entire universe fails... as Bungie is the glue that binds the universe together. With their patented formula of 'Do something no-one has ever done before, and sell it for 7 times what it's worth.

I'm going to hold out for Halo: Mabian's Edition. It's going to be a totally different game.

No really, it's going to be a totally different game. No rings, no augmented super soldiers, no over-zealous aliens. Just you, a sword, thousands of demons, and a totally awesome plot. Rumor has it that the bosses will be games that have ruined the Halo series, such as Halo Kart, Halo Golf, Halo Tennis, and Halo Gardening. Also, the final boss will be the Microsoft corporation. Then you can finally live Bungie's dream, 'cause at that point Bungie sure won't be able to.

The game is scheduled for release in 2020. However, due to foreseen consequences completely within our control, the game will be pushed back for another 15,193,792,876 years. At that point, playing the game won't really matter...

That is the true future of Bungie: makin' games 'til the close of the universe.
