Do not panic, or you will fail.

Over the past few months, I have notice a decline in the nature of the Underground Forum. Here is a pic of what happened a few days ago. Should the moderators enforce the Underground forum more tightly?

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

How can they make people not post inappropriate topics in the Underground? All they can do is lock, move delete threads. And BL or perma ban users who break the rules. And they do that.

Any ideas? Other than rule enforcement.

Any smallest thing beneath yon rock out of men's knowing. Only nature can enslave man and only when the existence of each last entity is routed out and made to stand naked before him will he be properly suzerain of the earth."

Doesn't that mean the moderators are enforcing the rules?

Perhaps you meant to ask if the moderators should be deleting some more threads? Then yes, I think they should, if there are that many locked threads at one time on the front page.

Do not panic, or you will fail.

A much less lenient rule enforcement. As in more blacklisting to make people get the idea.

Wow was every thread locked? The ninjas would have been busy bees don't worry to much about it.

In the past few months I have also seen a decline in your mother

But don't fret, just like the forums, Bungie takes care of your mom as well.

Okay, I went back seven pages, and there are only 2 pages with less that 10 threads locked. Hell, there are two with less than 5 that are not locked.

If your are going to make an immature post, go to The Flood. And only the mods are allowed to make your mom jokes.

Yet hasn't it been established that the birth of the spammer and such rule enforcement are linked?

Edit:

Not true, most of the mods make bad mom jokes.

But the Underground isn't declining just because the mods feel like every thread in a forum is garbage.

It is not my problem that some people have problems with that type of behavior. As you can see, there is already accumulation of spam in The Underground.

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

Most of it comes from newer members who apparently don't read the stickies. I don't know how you could fix that. You just want the Underground to look like its not full of bad topics via bans and deletions? I guess that they could do that more, but I would really leave that up to them.

Maybe the big letters, THIS IS NOT A HALO BOARD!!!, should even get throught the thick heads of some of our B.net members.

Edit: Typos fixed

If there was a way to stop spam and incorrect topics before they're made, then there wouldn't be a need for Ninjas at all. But alas, that's no more than a platitude.

What would you do to curb the problems in the Underground? Lots of bans?

It's not your problem? You are interested in the state of the Underground, right? You do not want it to continue to decline, right? Spammer make things worse, correct? So people ignoring the rules is one thing, but when they try to get revenge by posting threads all over the forum, it becomes a lot worse.

So really, it should be your problem. If the behavior breeds spammers, then there must be another way to handle them that does not involve that behavior.

Well Ninjas are like teachers, noone likes them, their old, they smell bad, and they all have secret indetities.

But we still enjoy teasing them.

Maybe you misinterpreted that. What I said was that it is not my problem that they act this way, but it is my problem that they are crowding the Underground with Halo threads.

No...I interpreted that just right. What I said is that if the mods start handing out more bans, you have a fair chance of making the forum worse than it is now, because of the above explained reason.

No, that part was right, I meant the first part of what you had said.

No wait, I have a better idea. Why doesn't Bungie just beat them with the wet noodle until they are too scared ever to post a Halo topic in the Underground again. :)

Yes, then all they'll need is a machine that can dematerialize wet noodles, send them to an offenders computer, rematerialize the noodle, and smack away.

Do you know where they can get one of those for about $50.00?

If so, I'll but one too.

At least its an idea. Its better than anything I've come up with.

They should increase the amount of waiting time before a new account can be used to make a thread. Right now it only takes a day. The thing is I've been on these forums for months now and I've only made a few threads...do these people really have to be making one after the first day?

Also they should make a screen pop up the first couple times that you make threads. It should have huge letters that quickly explain that the thread will be locked if it's not in the right place and then give brief (less than 5 words) descriptions of each board. Also, you should have to click on the board you want the thread to be in rather than just clicking "I accept these terms" or "I understand." When people notice a button on the bottom of the page that you have to click to proceed, they don't read the text. But if they are forced to make a choice of where they need to click to proceed, hopefully they'll actually pay attention to what's in front of them.

"I can accept failure, everyone fails at something, but I can't accept not trying." - M. Jordan

People may visit this site and not join. Then one day decide they have a good enough idea to post on here. It wouldn't be very bright to deny a new member who doesn't troll forums the right to post a new thread.

A day is just fine.
