Chapter 7: Déjà vu, Déjà vu
Suspended in the atmosphere of the Gas Giant-Threshold-was a large, baselike structure. Connected on each side were a set of blue-lit energy shields. Shaped somewhat like a grappling hook, this Gas Mine hangs from a superstructure higher in the atmosphere. Just beneath the Mine, however, was an enormous vortex, sending a clear signal that a storm was soon to occur. Once the trio of Phantoms arrived, they aircrafts began pouring with Special Ops forces, Elites and Grunts all. The last to exit a Phantom and join the crew was the Arbiter, who was but a mere few feet from our three, Grunty misfits.
After heading down a series of small ramps, the squad stood face-to-face with a large, metallic doorway. A blue-armored Sangheili stood on the left of the doorway, dancing his fingers across the holopanel. Approximately fifty seconds later, the door slid open, as the squad shushed inside.
"Engage active camouflage!", ordered an Elite, "Reveal yourselves only after the Arbiter has joined battle with the enemy."
Soon after, the next doorway opened, and the now invisible troops walked forward. This next room, from what they could tell, consisted of at least five Heretics. However, each and every one of them were Unggoy. These Grunts were certainly different in terms of appearance. For instance, their backpack consisted of two, small canisters. Also, their armor-plating was a dull, ugly golden. Shouldn't be too hard, right?
Just before one Elite was able to sneak behind one of the Unggoy, an invisible Silco bumped into Pillow, revealing both of them.
"Hey, watch it!", Pillow exclaimed. And with that, each of the five, traitorous Unggoy turned their attention to the now visible Grunts.
"Uh-Oh...", Pillow said softly.
"Run!", shouted Silco, as the two of them-with Fisca (who was still invisible) following behind-ran to the right, and up a small ramp. On the next platform, a series of large, gas-contained canisters were being dumped onto the steep passageway below, and securing the area were, of course, even more Heretic Unggoy.
"Alright, Fisca," said Silco "Head down there, and take 'em out."
"What? How didja know I was here?", exclaimed Fisca, who was standing just inches from the other two Grunts.
"Oh, please, you'd be lost without us around!"
"Why me?"
"Well, since our camo is now gone, it'll take awhile for it to fully recharge. Now, stop being a Parfoise Hilton and get down there!", barked Silco.
"I hate you guys.", Fisca winced, as he walked down the next ramp, snuck behind one Unggoy, and bashed him in the back of the head with his needler. The sound of the bashing caused one of the nearby Unggoy to look backward, the sight of the body confusing him. Seconds later, he too was knocked down from the back of the head, as Fisca was definitely the fastest Grunt of the squad. Within the next two minutes, Fisca had already taken out each and every one of the Heretics within the chamber. The black-armored Unggoy deactivated his camo, pointed toward Silco and Pillow, and gave the "Come on!" signal. The other two hopped off of the platform, and followed their comrade into the next room. Suprisingly, this area of the Gas Mine did not include any threat whatsoever, but instead, a conveniently located elevator. The three, visible Unggoy stepped onto the platform.
By the time they reached the lower section of the mine, the "camo" of both Silco and Pillow was fully recharged. With that, each of them were now invisible once more. However, this did not help much, as the Unggoy standing ontop of the Seraph-fighter in the very mid-section of the chamber could see directly through their petty disguise. The Grunt fired his needler at each of them, deactivating their camo yet again.
"So, this is what the Prophets have sent to silence me, eh? You three? Ha!", barked the Grunt, who was slightly different from even his gold-plated counterparts. This Unggoy wore a slightly more crimson-coated plate of armor.
"Ah, don't you worry, pal!", spat Pillow, "We've got an Arbiter who's on his way to kick your ass!"
"Then this will be fun, after all!", said the crimson-armored Unggoy, who pulled out two, small, metallic spheres. A few seconds later, he dropped both of them onto the floor of the chamber. But instead of spawning twinned doppelgangers of himself, these two new figures appeared as empty canisters.
"Ah, for &*#$'s sake!"
