Chapter 12: 'Bodyguard' My Ass

After a good night's sleep, the Grunt squad of six spent the next day lounging inside of their "suite", while under the protection of a veteran Elite (who was just recently hired by the Grunt sargeant).
The following evening, the squad-with the veteran by their side-left the confort of their suite for a stroll around the cruiser's various chambers. During their walk, an enormous blast came from the chamber to their right.
"What in tarnation was that?!", the Grunt sargeant exclaimed, turning towards the end of the purple-colored corridor. Just then, a door to their left began to peal open like a ladybug's wings, revealing a silver-clad Elite by the name of 'Lasume; surrounding him was a squad of Grunts and Jackles.
"Intruders....through that doorway.", 'Lasume panted, while pointing at the door ahead. The red-armored veteran nodded and headed through the automatic door to his right, with the six Grunts following behind.
Once all of the troops were through the doorway, something terrifying struck their hearts, for in the center of the dimly-lit chamber, the green-armored demon and his men had arrived.
"Oh, you've gotta be freakin' kidding me!", Hackle said with frustration. "Run, men! Run!", the Grunt sargeant shouted, as all six of the Unggoy ran back into the corridor, leaving their bodyguard behind. "Unggoy, wait for m-"
Just then, a plasma grenade struck the top of the veteran's head. The Elite squirmed in an effort to get it off, but it was too late. The blue flame erupted, and the Elite disappeared in a cloud of smoke.
"Goodness, that guy sure has a good aim.", Pillow said, panting heavily. "What's this guy doin' here, anyway? I was sure we got rid o' him for good.", said the Grunt sargeant, who was filled with confusion. "So what do we do now? There's no way that we can escape from him, this time.", Hackle said.
The Grunt sargeant paused for a moment, then said, "Hmmm.....Maybe there is. I remember when we came here. There were aircrafts, tons of 'em. If we find one before that lil' snake tracks us down, we may just be able to blow this joint."
"But what about those free back rubs we got with that suite?", Pillow whined. The hallway fell silent, until-all at once-they said, "#%#*$!".

Chapter 13: Trapped

While on the run from a strangely-armored demon, the Grunts continued searching for the right section of corridors- hopefully leading to the docking bay. Eventually, while lost from within the ship, they entered a dimly-lit room with pink-colored energy fields covering a set of cells on both sides of the chamber. In the back of the room stood a long, rectangular holopanel.
"What is this place?", Fisca asked, as each of the Grunts walked slowly down the narrow chamber. They all took a quick glance at each the cells- each of which contained one UNSC marine. Some of the soldiers began to treat the Covenant troops with a middle-finger, screaming in terms that the Grunts could not understand.
"I don't know, but there aint anymore doors in here, which means we made a wrong turn. Head back, men!", the Grunt sargeant ordered. The Grunts nodded and headed backwards, and just before they took another step, the automatic door just several feet ahead of them opened, revealing the Master Chief himself.
The sargeant gulped while the others shivered, and the Chief began to reload his Assault Rifle. "Run!", the sargeant shouted, while the squad spread and began hiding in different sections of the dark chamber.
The Chief didn't care, though. He simply walked through the small crowd and up the ramp at the end of the room. The Master Chief slapped his hand onto the holopanel, causing each of the pink energy fields to vanish. After of them faded, the Chief turned to the cell on his right, where Captain Keyes sat against the wall.
"Coming here was reckless! You two know better than this....thanks.", Keyes said; the Chief lifted him up by his left arm. Both Keyes and the Master Chief exited the small cell and into the middle of the chamber. "Marines!", Keyes exclaimed, as each of the free soldiers accompanied him.
"Yes, sir!", the marines shouted.
"While the Covenant had us locked up," Keyes said, "I heard them talking about this ring world. They call it....Halo."
"One moment, sir. Accessing the Covenant battle net.", said a female voice coming from the Chief's helmet- the voice of Cortana, one of the UNSC's most advanced AI's. "According to the data in their networks, the ring has deep religious significance. They believe Halo is some kind of weapon- one with vast, unimaginable power!"
"Hmm..Tricky.", Keyes replied, "The Covenant kept saying that 'whoever controls Halo controls the fate of the universe.
"Now I see:", Cortana said, "I've intercepted a number of messages about a Covenant search team...scouting for a control room. I thought they meant the control room of a cruiser that I disabled during that battle above the ring, but they must be looking for Halo's control room.
"That's bad news!", said the Captain, "If Halo is a weapon, and the Covenant gain control of it, they'll use it against us and wipe out the entire Human race. Chief, Cortana, I have a new mission for you. We need to beat the Covenant to Halo's control room! Marines, let's move!"
"Yes, sir!", the marines said robotically.
Still aware of the Covenant presence inside of the chamber, the Chief and his Marines grabbed a hold of the Grunts in the corners and threw them each into their own containment cell. Once that order of business was done, the Demon and his crew left the room. Just a few moments later, however, the Master Chief received a red blob on his threat radar. He looked backward; there was no enemy in sight. He was just about to turn backwards when a long, two-pointed blade sliced through the Chief's visor, knocking him out cold.

Chapter 14: Check-Out Time

After being thrown into their own containment cells, the squad waited patiently for a Covenant troop to come to their rescue. However, it was not until two hours later when a golden-clad Elite walked into the cahmber.
"By the rings, Unggoy? You're alive!", the soldier said astonishingly, as he accessed the holo panel at the end of the room, freeing the Grunts from their cages. As they left their cells, the squad quickly realized that this Elite was none other than the one that had risked his life to get them off of the Pillar of Autumn, though the soldier's name was still unfamiliar with them.
"We're alive? I can't believe yer still here. How'd ya find us?", the Grunt sargeant asked.
"I traced you're signal several hours after my....incident.", the Elite exclaimed.
"But what about that fella in the strange armor? We have ta-"
"You need not worry about the human.", the Elite interupted, "He has been taken to a seperate containment facility. He is now under the watch of a much more....advanced security system. Now, if you please, follow me. The Prophet wishes the speak to us about our next mission."
Prophet? This word sounded very familiar to the Grunt sargeant and his squad, and in order to perhaps try to refresh their own memories, they followed the golden-clad soldier down a series of corridors throughout the Truth and Reconciliation, until they reached a final set of automatic doors; the doors quickly pealed open, and the troops entered.
The room was fairly wide compared to most of the ship's chambers, and centered around the middle of it was a group of blue and silver-armored Elites, and black and white-armored Grunts and Jackles. At the far end of the chamber stood a tall podium, where a strange, long-necked creature sat inside of a glowing, one-wheeled chair.
"We have arrived, Prophet of Truth.", the Elite said, kneeling infront of the Prophet. "Welcome, 'Latume.", the Prophet said, "Now, onto the matter at hand. As you know, the capture of the human has given us a strong advantage. A squad of Elites have discovered the location of the ring's control center well over an hour ago. However, we are currently missing one key figure in order to begin our Great Journey, and that is...the Oracle. I am sending each of you to the ring's swamp region, as it is one of the few regions that we have yet to search completely. Retrieve the Oracle, and bring it to me."
The Prophet waved his three-fingered hand forward, releasing the troops, as they left for the shuttle bay- all but the Grunts and their Elite companion. Something had to be done, so the seven of them walked towards the podium.
"Unggoy, I believe you and commander 'Latume have just been released.", the Prophet said.
"I undastand that, excellency, but there is something that must be explained. How did this whole war start? We were only gone from High Charity for a few days.", the Grunt sargeant said.
"By what do you mean, Unggoy? We have been fighting these humans for well over a decade now."
"Excuse me? We were just recently sent ta recruit some Jackles, with no knowledge o' these....humans."
"Who are you Unggoy?", the Prophet asked, leaning forward.
"With all due respect, your excellency, you can't say ya don't remember us. Does the Grunt Rebellion not catch your mind?", the Grunt sargeant asked frustratingly.
"Of course I am familiar with the Grunt Rebellion, but what does that- Wait- You cannot be-"
"We are.", Hackle interupted.
"But that is impossible. According to the Arbiter of your time, you and your squad were unable to escape the homeworld of the Hunters."
"That's the way it seems, but my men were able ter fly out in a Phantom. Unfortunately, the planet's explosion destroyed our ship. Next thing we knew, my squad and I were inside of one of the human ships. I guess what i'm askin' is....How did this happen?", the Grunt sargeant explained.
"Hmm....Very peculiar. Unfortunately, I cannot provide you with the answers that you want. There is one being, however, I believe that can.", the Prophet said.
"Really- Who?"
"He's the Legate, who is currently onboard a cruiser of our's known as the Infinite Succor. I can notify the Legate of your arrival.", the Prophet replied.
"That'd be fantastic. When can we leave?", Silco asked, popping out from behind the Sargeant.
"I suggest you leave immeadietly, as I am also needed elsewhere. 'Latume."
The golden-armored Elite nodded. He looked down at the Grunts, and the Grunts looked at him. It wasn't long before the seven of them were in the shuttle bay, onboard a Covenant Phantom, and on their way to the Infinite Succor.
