I have two things to say:

First, people who are stupid enough to believe that thinking happy thoughts will cure all the nasty things in the universe shouldn't be allowed to breed.

Second, people who claim that video games can be used to train killers probably haven't spent much time with real guns lately.

QFT!
I agree with pretty much everything in this thread being video games do NOT cause people to violence. Its just like guns, guns don't kill people; people who are not right in the head with guns kill people. When was the last time you saw a halo 2 disc walk up to someone and shoot him?

Also, I play COD2 360 and with vibration on, surround sound blasting, and sitting a few feet from the TV screen and seeing the massacure of many soldiers who probably don't wan't to even be there makes me think "HOLY CRAP! I would neva do this in real life neither wan't to ever see it." Video games don't make people violent it prevents them from taking their violence out on real people. nuff' said.

Secondly, scientists try to play God thinking they know all but they DON'T know what exactly those certain brain activities even mean. All they have is a vague idea and nothing more.

In conclusion, video games don't kill people; people do, video games prevent REAL life violence, scientists try to play God buy fail miserably.

Actually, the seven point check for jams in America's Army is pretty accurate...

Not accurate enough to fool me into thinking that pressing F will clear my jam in real life. :D

I agree with a lot of what's been said, especially the part about media, politicians, parents, and scientists blaming society's woes on whatever new technology is invented. ie, books, music, comic books, movies, video games, internet...

On the bright side, if this Trend o' Blame (tm) continues to cycle, there will eventually be new technology to take the heat, and video games will finally get a break.

Blarg.

violent video games dont make me want to kill sumone.
i have to say, though, i do feel more violent. like, a little bit. a wee bit.
for me, i think all that violance changed me in this way: if an army of ravenous aliens suddenly show up and start killing everyone, i wont have a problem with stabbing them a couple o' times.
well
i would have a problem if i just meet them. cuz if i try to stab it i'll prolly get owned in every way it is possible to BE owned. but if i know i can kill it without it eating me, i will do it.
wait
no
HEY I KNOW
if covenant attacks
and there's a huge battle
and eveyone does except for 1 grunt
then i will have almost no problem killing him

yeah
that expresses my feelings toward violent games.
it's like, they make me violent enough to kill in sum circumstances, like if i get drafted and they shove a gun in my hands and say "go shoot", i will prolly do it,
but not violent enough to just go on the street and shoot away.
wait
i sound violent
k
not violent enough to kill sumone if they even they REALLY piss me off and break my Xbox 360(which i still dont have) and crack my halo 2 disc. and then blame it on leprecons.and then hit me in the face cuz they wanted to dazzle me so they can run away.
yeah
cuz that's like, the edge

Just a thought on this issue - If these games are so incredibly violent, why are crime rates falling?

Because police have become increasingly more violent after playing those same videogames.

A policeman brutally beating someone is still a crime.

Ok, here's our situation. I went to a hunter's safety class, right? Yes, you guessed it, I shoot living things and take their life. Does that make me a nutter who is going on a shooting rampage? HELL NO. Sure, I LOOOOOOVE the smell of gunpowder after the first duck I kill, but does that mean I want to kill innocent human beings? No. They taught us an important lesson in hunter's safety. "A gun is a tool, it's the person who uses it." It's the same thing for video games. They are tools of entertainment. It would take a person with mental instabilities to shoot people because of a video game. Shooting someone in a video game will do no more to a person than jumping a piece in chess. It brings you the same feeling. Satisfaction. You just wore down your opponent. Nice job. It doesn't say: OMFG I JUST OWNEEEED A N00B IM GONNA OWN THE N00BS PLAYING IN MY B@CKY@RD WITH MY D@D'S 20 G@UGE!!!!!! THAT, my friends, is a person with mental instabilities. Issues. To summarize this statement:

SCIENTISTS WHO THINK VIDEO GAMES ARE VIOLENT CAN BITE MY SHINY METAL ASS!!!!!!!

Escape will make me god.

There are somethings that just can't be explained no matter how you slice it. Learn to live with it.

You can't blame it all on video games. b/c there is also TV and other things that contribute.

I wonder if the Wolf thinks the Moon listens when he howls at it.

i fully agree with you on the first part but the second part i dont agree. first of all the military uses a few video gamees to train certain divisions in the military. for example there was an old game made by Atari i belive and it was atank simulator, if u play it now the game looks like crap but the army did use it to train tank crews(somehow they did), also high performace military only flight simualtors are used to simulate combat missions that pilotes use to practice, not only that but they simulate landing ,etc. im not being a jerk i just wanted to clarify. please dont ban me........
