I was just over in the Dreams in Vana'diel forums at http://www.ffxionline.com, making my daily rounds to keep up-to-date with news etc. After reading replies to a query that I had submitted a day or two ago, just as I was about to head over here, I though of something that would reduce flaming and encourage people to be more helpful at Bungie.net.

The forums at said location have a "Thanks!" feature which allows users to click a button that can be found at the bottom of every post on the board if they find the information it contains useful or helpful in some way. The number of times a user has been thanked and the number of times that user has thanked another is displayed below their avatar and join date.

Although there are already many helpful individuals on these boards, I think this would be an interesting feature to implement that would ensure a warm, less-informed-friendly atmosphere. It's also not something that is so easily used for competition like post count.

Nah. Here, it would be more of a popularity contest and a post count. People would be making second accounts to boost, and others will give thanks just for other popularity reasons. You know, the "I'll scratch your back and you scratch mine" sort of thing. Not to mention everyone would get the "More thanks = More respect" ideology in their mind. I think the forums are better off without it.

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

Interesting. Though I doubt that it would be worth the web team's coding time. But this could be one of the alternative methods to gain another rank. It could be easily abused though. All you would have to do is ask your friends to thank you a million times.

But its interesting, nonetheless.

Hm, I guess you're right. I never thought about some having their friends thank them in a "You scratch my back, I'll scratch yours." fashion.

Oh well.

It's a good thought, but these forums are rife with persons who would view this as some sort of contest. I can see it now...

"you n00b, i got 3248 TYs"

"You boosted. Besides, this isn't a contest."

"watever, f*g, go back to your mom BK"

CK pretty much summed it up. It saddens me to say that I don't think most of the people on this site could handle such a feature.

How about a 'nominate favourite user'. One user, one vote. I don't see how that can be abused, aside from making 343 different accounts. (lolz, Halo reference)

Somehow I see that going horribly wrong....

Well, no.

It would sorta' be like what Carnage Kaiser said. You Private Message somebody, and tell them to help you out, and you'll help them out.

For all the time that we've been with Bungie, the Forums have been perfect. Yeah, maybe in the last few months, there's been a little threads that actually have a point, but there are the occasional few that have a lot of great meaning. So let's stick with the way Bungie is.
