I think it would be a great feature for anybody that runs a group on this website, to allow them to send a general message to anybody in the member's queue as soon as they submit themselves. It would be a great timesaver for me, and I'm sure many others, that like to speak with the people before they just allow them in.

I'm sure it would not take a lot of coding to make this happen. So what do you say?

Bungie listens to its fans! ^.^ | Ninja .II./ You
RCG: In ur base, steelin' ur flagz. | Watch the demo, then join the carnage!

It would be useful to send out application forms, for instance...

Good idea. =)

"And so here at the end of my life, I do once again betray a former
master. The path ahead is fraught with peril. But I will do all I can
to keep it stable - keep you safe. I'm not so foolish to think this
will absolve me of my sins. One life hardly balances billions. But I
would have my masters know that I have changed. And you shall
be my example." -Mendicant Bias

This has been brought up many times, most recently by Gun of August.

Do you mean like message everybody in the group at once? If so, that would be a great idea. That might come in handy if you want to send a Private Message to everyone to be active in his/her group.

2:10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
2:11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
2:12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

I say the New Hawtness V2.0 most likely has a lot of the stuff people are asking for in groups :\ B.net revolution!

Not to head off topic, but what is New Harness V2.0? Is it The Heptagon? Well anyway, The Heptagon consists of many good group ideas that could and might be added to Bungie.

For the record, i'd piss my self silly if there was an Armatik action figure.

"Lazy -zapp!-, what the hell are you doing playing with me? Get to work lazy ass."

Why do you post in italics? That's kind of annoying.

Anyway, the new hotness is supposedly the next version of the site set to release sometime in the near future, or so Achronos claims.

We've been here since you left.
We left before you came.

Well it took Achronos from 2001-2004 to work on the lukewarmness (Shishka)

So I would expect the next version sometime next year.

I'm pretty sure this has been discussed in Chapter Founders before.

You say tomato; I say potato.

I kinda like sending the applications to new members. It makes it personal.

Do you feel what I feel, see what I see, hear what I hear?
There is a line you must draw between your dream world and reality

Sounds like a good idea to me. It would be easier to get the word to less-active members and such. Also, larger groups don't need to spend so much time to inform members any new update.

But it might lag a little bit. Some groups have hundreds of members, and sending a PM to all of them might slow things down a little.

Damn. That better not happen. What will we complain about then? The complaints box? Frankie's shiny head?!

It's also against the rules, I think.

I like the idea (along with a lot of other ideas I've heard on these boards). It would be a nice addition to come with New Hawtness v2. I'd expect it to come out around the release of Halo 3.

Mourne not your comrades who must dwell / too strong to strive -
Within each steel-bound coffin of a cell, / Buried alive;
But rather mourne the apathetic throng / The cowed, and the meek -
Who see the world’s great anguish and its wrong / And dare not speak.

I think you mis-understood what he meant. He was suggesting being able to automatically message all the potential members that request to be in your group, not messaging all of your members.

At least, I think he was suggesting that it be automatic.

It sounds like a pretty good idea to me.

I agree, it would be very helpfull for a private group to be able to message all members and as a seperate feature be able to message all queued B.net members who are not yet a part of that group.

I'd like to be able to "Spam" everyone in my group with a PM. Not necessarily a spam message, just a general PM to everyone to let them know what's going on. Then again, I'd really love to establish a "mailing list" on the forums. Like, you send a request to someone and they accept it just as they would in Xbox Live if they chose to. Then when you typed up a PM you wanted to send to multiple people. You could just check names and send it to all of them. The problem with spamming many people at once that don't want it is solved by the whole "friend request" system. It's just a dream, though.

Agreed. I think Groups should be something that is purely about the discussion. I don't want to greeted with a cold, auto-message everytime I join a group.

It's as false as all these letters you get that are filled in by databases. A chapter should be run as a community, not a business. If someone doesn't care enough about their group to greet their new members, then they should not bother at all in my opinion.

I think an admin should know and interact with their members on a personal level, otherwise they will end up with some problematic members, which I have also learned in the past.

  • 12.20.2006 12:46 AM PDT

I'm not that active, but never dead.

Imagine the amount of spam you would get if someone managed to take over a admin position or just managed to get an admin position. The system is bogged down enough as it is with the forums.

If you want to get a message to everyone in your group that is active, just post and news item in bold and red, or something. That is what the news queue is for.

Use the tools you already have.

IF you were to be able to give somebody only vision of Group History Viewer don't you think the person that you'd give it to, is likely to not spam. He'd also have to be active in my case, and be trusted to be able to get that ability. If the person you give it to spams, then it's your own fault for giving him that permission.

Also, posting in the News section doesn't really make a difference, barely ever does somebody browse by the Homepage, except when their first going into the group. Everybody spends all their time in the forums of groups.

Yeah, the tools we already have a perfectly fine. I like the idea of allowing, or blocking non-member view though.
