Though your reply was helpful and appreciated, I was wondering more about the official groups, as in ExCovenant or something. Any of the groups that would fall into the My Groups tab in the top of my profile screen.

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

There is a list of all the chapters here

In as far as the most popular, I don't know where that list went. I know that Body Politic and Popular Fusion are pretty big. So is Chapter Founders (but you need some qualifications to join that group).

As you saw from the descriptions after each forum title, this particular forum is for Bungie General (software company related topics and lore), and oldskool games.

The Septagon is for site discussion. All the site related questions go there (including this one, just for future reference).

The Halo 3 forum is for (surprise!) Halo 3 discussion.

New Mombassa is for Halo 2 general topics.

The Optimatch is a play list related topics, particularly on xbox live.

The Maw is for Halo PC and windows discussion. Go there if you like technical topics.

The Library is for Halo Xbox specific topics.

The Gallery is for fan art and other Bungie related images.

The News is the discussion forum for all the news stories on the main page.

The Voting Booth allows you to vote on Halo topics, and give you input on those kinds of topics too.

And the Flood is the compulsory off topic forum. You can probably guess what that's for.

That's all I can think of. Any thing else?

Good evening, or whatever time it is where you are.

I'm wondering if anyone could give me a shortish list of any of the more popular groups and such just so I can get a grasp on the natural hierarchy that always appears in forums.

Of course, this forum is a far more worthy cause than any other forum I know of (though that's a short list).

I would appreciate it.

The 7th Column is the official group for this site. There are many more chapters contained within there. You can take Recon's advice and try to find something there.

And if you wait around long enough, people will start to send you invites over the PM system. Its inevitable.

1) My apologies for posting in the wrong area, I was sincerely unaware, but thanks for not immaturely attacking me.

2) Thank you very much for the group info, that helps immensely.

We've been here since you left.
We left before you came.

And most mods don't like joining random fan made chapters.

I'd prefer to join a group that would perhaps increase my credibility on forums.

Yeah, you are new...

You see here buddy, you don't join groups to increase your forum cred.

What people think of you is determined by your actions, what you do, and how good of a member you are.

Don't worry about becoming a respected member. If you show us that your worthy of our respect, you'll get it in spades. As everyone has already said, be your self and people will like you.

Welcome to Bungie.net.

There is a reason I am user ID 1 and my account creation date is before this site came online.

As a moderator in Body Politic, if you are interested in discussing politics, that is one of the best places to do it. Since the discussion of politics is forbidden on the public forums (it would create far too much chaos) Body Politic was created by a former mod (Reigenko) and is currently under the leadership of a theme master (Sir Fragula). Anyways, that's one suggestion.

(I appologize if that seems like an ad for the group, if it is a problem, I shall edit my post ~B.B.)

Another group, one that I'm not a part of is Bungie Jumpers. I would suggest maybe looking into this group, it has some of the older members of B.net, and if anyone can teach you the ropes of B.net, it's probably one of them.

Hmm...another group that might be worth looking into is Chapter Founders. This group is to aid people in the development of their own groups. But even if you are just looking to join another group, the information contained in Chapter Founders will probably be valuable as well.

Another group, one with a rather large member base is, Mjolnir Battle Tactics. Probably one of the biggest groups on B.net, it might be worth looking into.

Another suggestion is Mob of Angry Peasants. One of the oldest groups on B.net, it may or may not be what you are looking for.

DISCLAIMER!!: These are just some examples of the groups you can find here on B.net, and I definitely want to make it clear that these are not the only/best groups on the site. I'm just making these suggestions in order to help you get acquainted, and then you can decide what groups are right for you. In addition, if you go to the "community" tab in the toolbar directly at the bottom of the webpage, there is an option to "Find Group". That might be another good way to go.

I'm just hoping that I didn't come across as trying to promote these groups, because I only belong to 1 of them, and therefore am only suggesting them because they are some of the ones I've heard of. If anyone feels that my post is unfair or against the rules, feel free to contact me and I shall edit it accordingly.

Hope that helped at least a little.

Bungie listens to its fans! ^.^ | Ninja .II./ You
RCG: In ur base, steelin' ur flagz. | Watch the demo, then join the carnage!

If you give us a couple of examples of areas you're interested in, I'm sure we can point you to groups that you'd enjoy. =)

But yes, what groups you are a member of will have pretty much zero effect on what people think of you on the forums (with a couple of exceptions).

You should check out IRC. It's like groups on crack.

Check the Septagon Threads of Interest sticky for a link to a guide on IRC.
