I understand that if Bungie were to create an XBOX Live version of Halo: Combat Evolved, they would have to re-write the whole game code. That would take many hours and I'm sure it would cost something. Thing is, there already is an exsisting varient: Halo PC. Having played Halo PC ALOT lately, they seemed to be able to take the Combat we all remembered from LAN and splitscreen sessions on the XBOX and take the carnage online. They didnt change ANY of the gameplay. Pistol still takes 3 shots in the head for a kill, granades still throw hella far, sniper still works the same way it did, as with every other weapon in the game. The gameplay from the XBOX version of Halo: Combat Evolved was unchanged in its transistion to Halo PC. They took out some gliches, like the "Double Melee" in Halo PC (Unless I havent found it yet) but other then that, they seem to be the same game only one is played on a PC with a mouse/keyboard and the other a controller.
Now heres the thing....
I've been monitering this forum for the past few years and COUNTLESS "Petition to get Halo 1 on XBL" threads have been created and debunked. The most common answer from a Moderator is that "They would have to re-code the entire game". Yes, that would be a son of a ditch to do, but if the demand is high enough (if it can be proven that more then just a bunch of Forum Boys who want it) then why not re-code the game to make it online capable? Obviously the gameplay would NOT need to be changed, as evidenced in the identical gameplay found in the online Halo PC. Some people have trouble adapting to the mouse/keyboard configeration. We were raised on a controller, not a keyboard and mouse. Thats why the demand for an XBOX Live compatible Halo: CE is so high. You dont need to change the gameplay (Balance, weapons, etc.) as the moderators have pointed out that would "dissapoint hardcore fans who want the online version done" because Gearbox didnt change a thing when they helped bungie out with the port.
Prehaps, Gearbox could port Halo PC (Since its got the new maps and stuff) BACK onto XBOX, so it has the netcode all ready to go (Even though its not the best netcode, it works)
Just have Bungie re-add everything needed to make it run on the XBOX (Limited Auto Aim/magentism, Controller support, etc)
This would be a good thing to do once the XBOX 420 or whatever is released and the 360 is obsolete. Remake Halo 1 with Next Next Next Gen graphics, Co-Op/ online capable. Probably shouldnt be a focus for bungie seeing as how they are busy making Halo 3.
Maybe have Gearbox or some other company do it in the meantime/for the Next Xbox? I dont know. Just trying to breath some fresh air into this often debated topic.
