Forgive me if it's been discussed before, but I wanted to hear your opinions on this idea.
I haven't seen it mentioned before for the possibility of 4 player co-op in Halo 2. I dont think it needs it, granted a 4 player Legendary level would pretty much have to throw a billion covies at you to be very difficult.

<Book Spoiler>

But I've had the idea since I read First Strike and there were exactly 4 spartans alive flying towards earth. Granted by now there should be a bunch of spartans trained and ready on earth, but 4 player co-op seems like a cool idea, if not practical.

your right, this has been talked about before. theres at least 2 other threads on this right now.

i do not think they will have it, and its also a bad idea. it would make the game extremely easy

I just said this on another post (which wasn't actually about 4 player co-op, but my post was relelvant). They should have 4-person co-op, and just have four times the number of covies. That way, everyone can get some action.

They tried this idea in Brute Force and it was a total failure. Communicated seems to breakdown with more than 2 ppl and ppl go off doing their own thing. Not something that ends up being all that fun. But it could still possibly be in Halo2.

If it were on Legendary, that would be intense. Just a squad of competent Spartans!

Wrong!

What they could do is this.

When you die, you die until the next loading zone. Forcing you to stay alive and not waste your life. Or they could make it every time a new checkpoint comes up or something like that as well.

I think 4 player co-op would be badass for those times you got several friends over and you dont have 2 xboxes or live ( dont ask... i have live) but everytime i go to my friends... we always have to play 4 players on BG (gets boring with 4 players after a while.. especially when they are all ps2 guys) but that would be nice to play 4 p coop.. that would just...........ooooooooooooooooooo.... i love to play co op and single player campaign... of course online is awesome.. i paid 50 buks for this game and im playin the game from every aspect!!

It would be okay, as long as they ratchet up the number and/or difficulty of the enemies to compensate for the extra players. Four players would be annoying just on split-screen (except on very large TV's), but if they had Co-Op over System Link and/or Xbox Live that wouldn't be a problem.

Im not sure about halo2's limits but in halo1 i could of sworn it was impossible. Bungie even talked about why they couldnt even have halo 2 playerco-op over a system link. The data the xboxes have to transfer would of been massive (a hell of a lot more than the multiplayer) So, unless they really cut back on some things, I doubt it would ever happen. Sorry...

PS Which is a shame because it would have been brilliant.

at least allow us to dream about it, oh the things one could do with 4 player co-op, two hogs speeding against thousands of covies guns blazing, horns honking, my god! i think i'm going to cry....

Nope. Bungie Denies making a co-op more then 2. I got many sources that back that up

Then present these sources. Please, I have many magazine relating to Halo 2 if that is your source. If it is an internet link, I want it.

If bungie makes a 4 player co-op, then the diffuculty should set to the # of people in co-op.
Ex:
2 people- normal
3 people- heroic
4 people- legendary

And when you beat it, THEN you should be able to adjust the co-op difficulty.

  • 05.25.2004 4:53 PM PDT

4 Player Co-Op is NOT a good idea. In the Halo PC strategy guide it was said by one of the Level makers said that he had made the Assault On the Control Room with a lot more enemies and vehicles the first time around, and then was reminded by one of his co-workers that Halo was co-op. He had to go back and cut almost half of the enemies and vehicles (because of the co-op lag problems). What this means is that with the more players you have, the less enemies you can have. So if Halo 2 were 4 player co-op you'd have one forth the enemies as normal. That would be bad.

Now if it were four player co-op over Live, it might work. But I doubt it.

no i think for each number you should be able to adjust, because frankly, there are some people who will get utterly pwned on anything about normal.

Halo PC didn't have co-op, not sure what exactly you are talking about. I can tell you that Halo on the Xbox, and Halo 2 on the Xbox are on 2 entirely different game engines. The ladder being Huge.

if halo 2 has 4 player co-op then praise god, if it doesn't well too bad it will still be awesome, also co-op over system link would be as wicked as seeing cortana in a human body (oh that would be wicked) but we will have to live with what we get, and dream about what we didn't. no matter what happens though, bungie i love you

The bottom line is this (though im no expert) more players and more xboxes = choppier framerate (no matter what the game. Halo 2 is a brilliant looking game and does squeeze from the xboxes power but, saying that, there are more enemies, vehicles and better effects in halo2 which means this power is going towards making the single or dual player experience look and feel better, not to more people being able to play co-op, this would mean less covies and vehicles which would suck). Sorry about crushing your wonderful dreams but im likely to be right

Framerate wouldn't be effected on XBOX Live. If they do make Online co-op for Halo 2, which Bungie very much hopes to do, 4 players is not out of the question.

well i know 4 player co-op is not possible on multiple systems BUT it could be done on one (though it might be a little hard to see it would still be fun) i say single system co-op... its better than nothing right?

4 player co-op would be a horrible idea. you would own any opposition you came up against., that is of course unless you suck.. over live wouldnt work because of lag and other issues such as the amount of info bein transferred. for all of you who want 4 player co-op, i think you all need it because you suck big hippo dick. i my self beat halo 1 in legendary by myself within 4 months time. so i dont need co-op at all although i do like 2 player.

I like the idea because i have two other ciblings and 2 on 1 multiplayer isnt fair and we have to take turns during co-op. This way all of us can play.

PS if you dont like the idea then dont use it.

Unless Halo2 enemies are mindblowingly hard, 4 player co-op would be way too easy. I can play co-op on Halo:CE with my friend and never have to stop running the bodies drop so fast. With 4 players, everybody could be limited to a single SMG only and still blow away anything they saw.
