Alright, I've searched all around, contacted a moderator, and have found no answers.

I am wondering why I can have such good lag times, where I see little or no lag whatsoever, and the next minute, BOOM!, I'm stuck like a sack of bricks and I'm continuously floating backwards, stopping every second(literally) and then floating backwards more until I hit a wall/corner. What would make something like this happen?

I also am having trouble with finding an ample amount of servers online. One night I was on, around midnight(@ -5:00 GMT), and I found a few servers were actually on(maybe 3-5). I was fine with that, because hey, I didn't have anything else to go off of, I thought this was normal. Then I went and asked a friend if he wanted to play on LAN with me. So we tried it...hey, didn't work. It was no biggy at first, some games just don't work on LAN. So we tried to find our own servers on the Internet portion. Turns out that while I was getting like 4 servers, he was getting 5-6 pages worth of servers.
Would anyone know the cause of my problems here? I'd really like to get more than the servers I'm currently getting because I sometimes wait 5-10 minutes for a decent game to come up.(only to then have it wasted a little while longer by my first problem stated above)....

First off, LAN network games only work on a direct connection (i.e. PC to PC)... And what kind of Internet do you have? (DSL, Dial-up, etc.). What is your usual ping when you can find a server? And, last of all, I suggest checking your filter settings...

yes, I know LAN games only work on direct connection. I've played other games, Warcraft III and Age of Empires II on LAN with up to 8-10 people.
I have cable internet at home and at college(where I've been having the trouble, the school has T1 connections I believe(though it runs a little slower than DSL).
my usual ping is around 75-250 depending on the game, but averages about 150. I always look at my filter settings, they don't really tell me much and I've never changed them.

More background on my problem, now hopefully answers will come ;-)

Update your halo. You should be getting about 55 pages or so of games to join.

One word: Firewall. While yours on your computer my allow halo to go through, the school's servers also have a built in firewall system. its to keep people like you from playing games while your time might be better off spent studying. also i can explain the really lagginess on a T1 line. think of it like a pipe. this pipe cant get bigger than a certain size. now theres a lot of people trying to get through this pipe and connect to the schools servers. they may not be trying to get online, but they are in the same pipe you are in anyway. my school, when im in my computer programming class, gets about 2Kbps when i'm downloading stuff online.

that's understandable, but my friend who I saw had a longer list is just a few doors down from me in the same dorm. It might explain for the entire school why we all wouldn't get many servers, but it doesn't explain how he still does get more than myself.

I'm at home now as well and I still don't see more than 5-10 when I'm around to play online.

Blame the Netcode, that's what I do and it works for me.

Halo is weird that way, it doesn't always tell you to update when you should. 1.07 is the latest version. I don't know any other reason for less servers showing up.

I've had similar issues. I have DSL and a wireless network, and when I play on the computer that is connected to the router vie Ethernet, I can only get 3 pages of servers and they all lag out. However, if I play on my brother's laptop that is connected via 802.11 g (wireless network), hundreds of pages show up and there's little latency. (Both are using the same DSL modem). You would think that the wired connection would be a lot better than wireless.

In my case, it's network related. Probably the network card or something. It could probably be fixed with a better network card. If the kind you're using now is the kind that's integrated into the motherboard, it's probably not that good, get a newer/better one and it should fix things.

That should explain the lack of servers (maybe also the load of lag).
