I'm just wondering if Halo 2 will have some of the old weapons from Halo. I really did like the AR alot. I mean there are going to be lots of new weapons. SMG, Plasma sword, those plasma guns the Brutes have, etc. are some of the guns from the first halo be back?

So what happened to the AR and pistol? I know the AR is replaced by the Battle Rifle, but the pistol is my fave gun! And the SMG won't replace it seeing it has no zoom function...

There is no reason for them not to be.

The SMG is weaker than the MA5B I have been told as is the BR compared to the M6D. Which means they can still have all the guns from the first game and it will still be balanced.

Plus from a story line POV the UNSC can't distribute all new weapons and pull out the old in under a month. It takes forever in today's military just to re-fit a division. By then when there are many more troops it'll take much longer. Also read my signature. That is some of the best evidence that the MA5B and M6D will return.

I'm pretty sure the Battle Rifle is replacing the Pistol and the SMG is replacing the Assault Rifle.

The Battle Rifle is in effect a really big pistol. 2X zoom and single fire or 3 round bursts. It may do more damage than the pistol as well.

In the novel, there was a new pistol, it was like a .50 cal, and had no zoom. Eric Nylund worked closely with Bungie, infact, he is Bungie, so anythign that was put into the books, was approved by the team. SO, if they follow the novels, there will be a new pistol. As for the AR< no chance its making it. The SMGs are armor-piercing bullets, smaller, yes, but they had to balance it due to the more powerfull Battle rifle, if you look closely enough, notice that the SMG has the same cross-hair as the AR did in the first one (there are just two inside each other, but they are the same design). I havent heard anythign about a new pistol, but if there is, chances are its gonna be CRAZY powerfull.

hey this is really off topic but do u guys think that the ppl at bungie acually go into forums and read wat ppl say just to get some ideas of how to make the game better? like modifications on guns and certain level layouts ect...

heh... if they do make a pistol like that, people will use it for far range, whether its zoomable or not, that makes like 5 weapons people can use for sniping now in Halo 2........

The pistol in the first game was a .50 cal. Look here is a good list of human weapons from strongest to weakest and some balance issues. I will also include the new ones from what we know is confirmed and those in the books.

M19 SSM (Rocket Launcher)- Big boom stick. Has a lock on and zoom. Down fall is limited ammo.

SRS99C S2 AM (Sniper Rifle)- My boom stick. Up to 10x zoom, fast fire rate, armor piercing shells. Downfalls are a four round clip and is hard to use at close range.

New magnum- (this is based on the books) Big bullet, lots of fire power. Downfalls are no zoom and smaller clip size.

M6D- The most debated weapon of all for some damn reason. Has a handy zoom function, fast fire rate, and nice kick back in .50 explosive/ hollow point shells. Down fall is it has only 12 rounds, can be tough to master, and is not the best of "up close and personal" weapons.

Battle Rifle- The supposed M6D replacement. 36 round clip, three round burst or semi-automatic, nice smack rate, zoom function, great accuracy. I have yet to see any flaws with this weapon other than it is weaker than the M6D(but only marginally, not really noticable), and the new reload sucks for it as compared to the one from last year. Also Brutes can take a full clip of this, so that might prove to be a problem(read First Strike for that info).

M90- For close range or deer hunting. Close range power of a grenade(and then some), nice rate of fire, and good accuracy up close. Downfalls include bad reload timing (if you are dumb enough to let it go down that much), horrible accuracy at long range, and damage per indivudal pellet is not all the best.

MA5B- Best. Weapon. Ever. 15 rounds per second, 60 rounds per clip, nice little counter on the gun, fast smack rate, and just enough power to counter what the UNSC has been facing for 27 years(Elites, Hunters, Brutes, and Engineers didn't show up until 2552, which is 27 years after the war started.)

Sub Machine Gun- That little thing. 60 round clip, better fire rate than the MA5B, fast reload sequence, looks like it'll have a good smack rate, can be dual wielded. Weaker than the MA5B (The MA5B kills someone in 22 shots, the SMG took more than that in the E3 demo), and it runs out of ammo a bit fast. It also has more accuracy issues. To make up for the weakness however it can be with any ther one handed weapon.

I hope that clarifies some stuff on the different weapons in the Halo universe. All in all they are well balanced. You people just -blam!- to much.

Not necessarily, I think Bungie is smart enough to make the more powerful pistol less accurate as well, it is just a side arm after all. It's probably really strong but not good past mid range. Any way it looks now, they're changing everything as we speak, so it's all meaningless

In one of the demo articles, from E3, it said only the Rocket Launcher, Shotgun, and Snipe Rifle made it. But, we know for a fact the Needler and plasma pistol made it. Anyone with a brain can figure out that the old M6D and MA5B won't be returning. (That's why they introduced the SMG and BR).

EDIT: And if you read the last OXM article, you know the Plasma Rifle will be replaced by the gun shown in the screen with the two elites. May have the same name, but definitely a different gun.

well actully they never rulled out those weaps. they actaully planned on adding a ton. the smg doent have to "replace" anything and the pistol who knows. the truth of the matter is that bungies hasnt given any official work on any of these things. and if u look in the pics, the plasma rifle is returning.
and the article from e3 meant that only the needler and shotgun and rl and sr were returning in the vid. not the final version of the game

They may have not confirmed anything, but common sense prevails. Wait, to contradict myself, in the beginning of Halo 2, you might have to use old weapons, until you get your hands on the new ones. That would be cool.
