Is it cruel for me to leave my marine behind?

The Marines aren't real.... I send em on suicide missions all the time, then sneak aroud and pwn. Then i look for survivors.

Yes. If they are on my tank, i would kill him and replace him with a marine with a assault rifle

Great fun on co-op. One player with a sniper rides the tank treads (or gets to an observation point) and "calls fire" for the player driving the tank.

My wife and I had hours of fun with one of us playing spotter and the other firing the cannon.

"up one click, right two... wait for my call to fire.... ready.... ready.... fire!"

BOOOM! ------- *poof goes the hunter*
Not meaning to sound rude, but wouldn't your wife rather do something other than play Halo? No Inuendo intended either.

MeArbiter, if you _insist_ on keeping those stupid worthless marines alive and with you, you can take them through the Zone Crossover by being sure they stay close to you in the common overlap space that all Zone Crossovers have.

In the "Rolling Thunder" Zone Crossover (ZX for short), there are two peaks/humps in the floor with a "valley" between them. The common ground of both Zones is the first peak. Going forward, you load the next zone exactly as you touch the "valley" bottom of the first peak; going back, you load the original zone as you touch the peak's first bottom where it levels out.

So keeping your marines warm (not frozen) is a matter of knowing when and where to touch bottoms. (Sorry! Couldn't resist! :P)

Make sure all your surviving stupid worthless marines are at least as far as on that first peak before you cross the low point (valley) between peaks, and they will continue with you. Probably the easiest way to do that is to have them ride the scorpion.

Now to address your first question: Why did you limit the choices to 'hog and scorpion?

Granted, if you insist on keeping your stupid worthless marines alive, I can understand not wanting to keep a ghost around--anytime a marine gets in a ghost, he becomes a bigger danger than the Covies, if you're on foot.

On the other hand, by the time you get to the scorpion you're only around the corner from the first banshee you get to fly. I just can't imagine choosing a 'hog or scorpion when there's a banshee available.

I personally prefer to take out hostiles from a safe distance, but for those who like to mix it up, this is the only chance in this level to take on two wraiths together with a banshee. Do it right and you can bring up the hunters from the tunnel entrance and take on two wraiths _and_ two hunters all together---great chance to work on your flying skills. And you have the option of leaving the shades in the dogfight too.

I personally prefer to snipe out the shades first, but I know some of you like maximum mixing.

For the husband/wife team, this is a great chance to place a sniper on the high platform to call fire for the scorpian. Two wriaths in sight, no waiting for challenging targets.

(Be advised that crossing beyond the ice pond where the first wraith lives will trigger the elite banshee pilot to spawn on the platform and also triggers a checkpoint as soon as everybody's not in imminent danger.)

This also gives you one of the longest shots in the game: From that platform, you can _just_ make out the two hunters waiting down at the first blast door in the tunnel. Sometimes there is an elite who has upset its ghost and has joined the hunters down there.

If you're observant and careful, you can tell when a hunter has its side or back to you and actually take it out with the sniper. Otherwise, it's a good sniper-and-RL shot.

Oh, BTW---I've assumed that you know how to get the banshee down from the platform. Let me know if you haven't done that yet. There are better and worst ways to go about it.

I always keep the marines alive to the best of my ability. It's OK to leave marines behind if the area is clear of hostiles.

I like Ghosts but when u use boost, the stabilizers don't work and (oddly enough) you seem to die easier. Scorpions are just good fun for people who want to kill everything, but because they're so slow, you do have a better chance of getting stuck with a plasma or shot with a turret or vehicle weapon. Overall, Warthogs are fast, efficient and u can splatter ur enemy's by slamming the brakes and doing a donut. I like Warthogs. Halo Rules!!
OHhhhhhhh, Yeahhhhhhhh!! :)

Well, yes, a ghost is faster than the warthog or scorpian---but if your main concern is how _fast_ you can get through the level--the fastest way is to get the banshee just around the corner from the scorpian and use it to bypass more than half the obstacles in the level.

I've never understood the hurry-up-and-finish approach to the game, but hey, I've never understood the attraction of golf either. Everybody to his own game.

Me, I like to hang around and explore all the different ways you can do this game. And since I'm enjoying myself, I'm not in any hurry to get it over with.

I used the banshee once just to go straight through to the end, just to do it: I killed off everything up to the central bridge in the big tunnel (The Grand Cavern) and worked it so the banshee's health was maxed, then I just flew through the Rolling Thunder checkpoint/Zone Crossover and just kept flying past everything else.

On the steep slope up to the tunnle exit, I did a lazy zig-zag---the trick to avoiding Covie fire in a banshee is not to fly directly at or away from anyone---they don't track side-to-side well. By zig-zagging up the slope I take a minimum of hits before I exit.

The Covie dropship is just decending when I exit the tunnel and I immediately fly high toward the platform high on the right cliff wall. The checkpoint triggers just before I get to the platform.

At this point I have the option to stay and play, or go straight to the end. By not going anywhere near ground level near the Tower, I don't trigger a Tower checkpoint or spawn any Covies---not at the tower and not farther on in the level until I do trigger a Tower checkpoint.

So the one time I did it, I just flew straight to the last door on the Twin Bridges, ran straight thru the corridors and roundabouts, without enemies, into the Third Canyon where there was a nice unattended banshee waiting for me on the Ice Bridge (a.k.a. land bridge), and flew straight to the Control Room, unopposed.

I didn't bother to time it--I never do--but it had to have cut my time by at least half, probably to more like a third or forth of the time I've have spent hugging the ground. But like I said, I only did that once, just to do it.

It wasn't as much _fun_ as playing with all the nice little Covie playmates---especially when I can fly ahead and fix up the "furniture" (vehicles and shades and such) the way I like it so that when I do trigger the Covies to spawn, I've rigged the terrain in my favor. The Covies don't get to have vehicles anymore. And I've fixed myself barricades and hiding places and such that they have no idea how to handle. I basically take the time to put them at my mercy and play with them.

My favorite tactic is to get the Covies to shoot each other while they're gunning for me. Have you ever noticed that they just don't give a **** if one of their buddies is in the way when they shoot at you?
But of course, I understand that most of you are in too much of a hurry to take the time for this kind of sillyness.

For those of you traveling on a tight schedule, more power to you: Hope you can use the banshee bypass tip and hurry on to 343GS.

Co-op-get both

Have the tank go out first with a full load of marines, then the warthog comes in to clean up the mess you make with the tank. Get all of the marines to survive when you met the other group of Marines in the canyon. Army FTW!

Although the scorpion is powerful, I prefer the Warthog. It is fast, and as long as you have good evasive maneuvering skills, it is good. Especially if you get Johnson in the sideseat.

Hello,my question?

  • 01.18.2007 3:42 AM PDT

Lurking in the shadows, watching and waiting for the right time, the right place and the right target...

"When the game is over, the king and pawn go into the same box." - Dr. Catherine Halsey

In case you were wondering, yes I AM CANADIAN.

I choose neither, I choose the Banshee. It's easy to get, just shoot from under the platform (in the starting of the second valley) and it falls off then hop in and blow everyone away.

I frequently do neither. You have a rocket launcher and a Sniper rifle with plenty of ammo throughout the map, so just walk through it. Plus it is sooooo fun to peg all sorts of covie vehicles with a big 'ol rocket. Do it on coop and give one person a sniper and the other a rocket launcher and walk it. you rarely die.

Warthog is good when their is wariths, you can use wraiths as jumps and jump over them an go though the lvl without firing,

or you can take the Scorpion and leave a 3 inch wide hole in anyone you shoot at
