Hello,

I am very happy with my gaming rig right now.

First of all, I'll mention the meagre upgrade to my internal system -- the new ATI Radeon X1300 PCI 256 MB. Yeah, definitely not the best gaming card, but for us PCI gamers it is.

Anyway, I just got a new speaker system (4.1 surround sound with subwoofer -- oh yeah!). Considering what I used to use it's a huge upgrade. Before, I could only use a cheap set of earbuds to listen to my sound. I love the new bass boost.

Also, I just got this keyboard. It's friggin' sweet -- the USB makes a surprising difference in speed compared to my old standard 2000 Microsoft keyboard of a dull white. This thing's backlit keys make a huge change in gaming mood, too. The screen is awesome -- it displays your ammo, health, and little bits of objective on some games. It has 18 programmable keys and it has full control over music and media. Sweet.

Another upgrade -- my new gaming mouse. It's got scarily fast precision -- a huge boost over my default mouse that I used to use (with no scroll wheel -- GASP!)

Last but not least, I got a new screen of 19". The resolution and gaming clarity are awesome.

I know this all sounds bloggish, but to me this is a change to my entire life. My gaming life before was so substandard that it was sad. Bad video, bad hardware in every way. So I hope to see you guys on Halo soon and maybe now have a chance against you.

Hey brianv,

Yeah, I thought someone would make a reply like that...

Maybe now that he did, no one else will?

Anyway, ch'yeah. The screen works beautifully with Halo. I've never seen it look so good...and surprisingly, the Radeon X1300 runs it with so much smoothness that it's arousing.

...

Thanks for your comment.

Brianv,

Hah, yeah, as soon as I saw this keyboard, I fell in love with it. Gamer's fancy. The thing can do anything you ask of it. It works miracles. Unfortunately, it's not cheap for a keyboard -- nearly 70 bucks.

Good luck with your endeavours and life in general.

What kind of frame rates do you get on max resolution?

Hey ART1LL3RY,

On maximum resolution, it's not so incredible -- after all, that would be 1600 x 1200, and that's pretty taxing on a Radeon X1300 (especially when it's PCI); so it goes down to the mid- to lower-teens in that situation. However, when I play on 1024 x 768 res or 1200 x 1024, I get frame rates in the upper forties to lower sixties constant, sometimes rocketing even higher in calm areas. This is using all settings on maximum.

As for you, Angelslayer1122, thanks for the "initiation" -- this nifty little mouse works wonders when I'm playing games, or hell, just browsing the web. Much more precise than my old mouse, which was the kind without a scroll wheel and still used the mouse ball to move. (Ugh.)

Heh, my friend came over today to check it out, and he seemed pretty jealous. He's still using a 2001 HP computer with default hardware and everything. Poor bastard.

Hope to see you two on the battlefield, God bless.

My computer is good except for it just has a Radeon 9250 and integrated sound.
But i do love the S-video output my graphics card has. I can play halo on lowest settings on my TV and it looks just like xbox, only low though or it stretches it off screen.

This is like when I first got excited when I got my PC with a GeForce 5500. Yes, your PC is pretty outdated, but I understand and I am happy for you - maybe sometime later you can get a kickass PC.

My computer sucks. It's a Dell Dimension E310. But hey it works. Better than my last one which crashed everytime I tried to load Halo.

Same, here I have an E310. I wish it could have a few more drives. Or at least some good expansion slots like the newer dells. If only this had a PCI-e slot, then it would be awesome.
