Figured maybe we marathon junkies could get a chain quiz going or something. One person asks a question, then the first person to get it right asks another question. Of course you could just look it up on marathon.bungie.org/story, but hopefully people would respect a code of honor and answer first from what they know before looking stuff up.

An example question might be who is the admiral in command of the Pfhor's Battle Group 7, or maybe even use the relevant terminal quote and blank out his name.

Just something to look at and pass the time when people have a free moment or two. On a side note, does anyone know what color the background here is so you can make the text the same color as the background so people could check their answers if you wanted to leave it in the post? Also whoever got it right could make another question without having to wait for the maker of the post to come back and confirm it.

What was the name of the first rampant AI construct?

I believe that it was Traxus IV.

Or should I have waited until the answer was confirmed? Wait, is that my question? or that one? oh crap!

I don't think it was Traxus... It was definitely the biggest, but does it ever say it was the first? I'm not positive, but I dont think so. or maybe it did? I dunno. Whatever.

Best question ever: How do you spell the Wrn-ckackna-thingys names? no peeking remember! bonus points for a pronunciation guide!

  • 10.30.2004 4:14 PM PDT

Ach! Was ist los?

W'rkncacnter.

And Traxus IV was the source of the biggest Rampancy-related crash in history. The name of the AI involved in the first case of Rampancy has never been mentioned.

If you said Traxus IV, you were wrong! But good guess. As BobBQ put it, the name of the first true rampant AI is never mentioned.

Next question.

These beings exist on Lwo'hon. They are the genetic ancestors of the S'pht. What are they called?

F'lickta. I hope I spelled it right.
I guess I'll add a question:
How long did Leela say the light-speed message would take to get to
Earth? How many light years is Tau Ceti actually from Earth?

Correct! the answer is; Flick'ta.

98 Years. However, Tau Ceti is actually only 11 light years from Earth.

A Martian war of some sort... it's been far too long since I played through the games... Oh well, new computer gets here on Thursday, guess what I'll do to get it started ;-)

Question? Hmmm... What is the name of Durandal's Juggernaut and what does it mean? (And NO looking on the story site!!!!)

TRistan ;-)

Was it Manus Celer Dei, The Swift Hand of God?

If that's right, What phrase did durandal etch on the moon of L'ohwan (including english traslation) and who did it allude to?

  • 10.31.2004 8:27 AM PDT

Ach! Was ist los?

"Fatum instum stultorum", meaning "The just fate of fools." Durandal was referring to Tycho's alliance with the Pfhor.

Manus Celer Dei was a Jjaro Dreadnought, not a Juggernaut.

The WSTE-M was first deployed during the rebellion-suppresing Ares Raid, on July 14, 2444.

Who is Bernard Strauss belived to be?

Isn't Strauss believed to be the creator of Durandal?

For my question; when Durandal began his battle against the Pfhor garrison on Lo'hwon (sp?), he orders the SO to plant an uplink chip into the Pfhor computer network, with the intention of..

A) Activating the planet's ancient defense systems.

B) Finding new technology with which to upgrade Boomer's weaponry.

C) Re-programming the Pfhor security drones to fight for himself.

D) Activating the Jjarro Dreadnaught which is buried under the Tower of Antiquity.

This one is easy.

What weapon do the phor use to destroy a Solar systems star?

  • 10.31.2004 12:58 PM PDT

Ach! Was ist los?

A Trih'Xeem.

And the answer to Achilles' question depends on which chip we're taking about. C is correct if we're on "Ex Cathedra".

No, Brenard Strauss was not Durandal's creator, though he evidently tried to control him for some time. Strauss was the Marathon's science director. It was he who brought the ten Mjolnirs aboard, possibly on behalf of the much-feared MIDA terrorist group.

The Wave motion cannon?

Wasn't it a weapon that was supposed to be in Marathon Infinty, but was never fully utilized?

  • 10.31.2004 7:34 PM PDT

Also, the Wave Motion Cannon finally appeared in Oni. It was usually used as a vehicle-mounted weapon, but Barabas carries it, and Konoko can pick it up and use it (but you can only walk because it's so damn heavy).

Question: What is "Sfiera" (there are two answers to this one - you need both for full marks :))?

Oh, and before somebody starts putting the answers in the "invisible" colour, just remember that people using Safari (i.e. every single Mac user on the forums) will be able to see it in the normal old blue. It's really a blessing that the text colours don't work on Safari; I've seen the horrible colours that some people type in. Since Marathon is a Mac game, I'd say there's a pretty good chance that using the colour would affect a lot of people who want to take part. :)

Sfiera... The name of the Phfor Scoutship Durandal captures, named for the Phfor goddess of lightning and passion.

next question: What did the S'pht Call Sfiera? What did Durandal call it?

Oh come on now, y'all make this all to easy. All I have to do is root around through my signature a little bit.

The S'pht call Sfiera 'Narhl'Lar', which means 'Freedom and Veangence.'

Durandal, of course, calls it 'Boomer.'

And for my question, how many colonists died during the sacking of Tau Ceti by the Pfhor? Who takes personal responsibility for it?

Durandal claims responsibility for the twenty four thousand colonists that died on Tau Ceti.
