I have the Halo PC demo and use NetZero to connect. I have 56k and it is not that good yet when I play, people will be frozen for minutes yet I will be able to move about and kill them. And I hate it when my bullets go very slow but the tracers and gfx go instantly. I know this is because of a slow connection but is there a patch or something to fix this? Secondly does my connection mess some people's up or is there's just worse than mine? Unreal Tournament did not have these problems.

Err... buy the game?

The logical answer would be that people who have cable/dsl can afford to buy the game and play it in full 750k glory.

Halo was optimized (I use that word loosely) for broadband internet. The reason it seems like people are standing still or your bullets are moving slowly is because you have dial up. And it's your connection that's slower than turtle sex.

The only patch for your internets I can reccommend is a DSL connection, sorry. :(

I apoligize for being blunt, but your connection does in fact mess up other people's gaming experience and makes it rather unfun for them to play.

Be that as it may, here is Rampancy.net's guide to playing with high ping.

A slow connection can slow everyone else down, so people won't like you...

No, you have 475 kilobits per second.

T1s are not that fast.

This is what my speed is

Download Speed: 4295 kbps (536.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 454 kbps (56.8 KB/sec transfer rate)

I did it at http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ from the New York server

theres a huge difference between Kilobits and Kilobytes. Kilobits are a lot smaller, back when dial up companies didn't want everyone to know that they were so slow. it works on the computer system of measurement. bits, then bytes. in order from smallest to largest. kilobits a second is often abbreviated
as kbps or Kb/s. Kilobytes are often KBps or KB/s. thats why ART1LL3RY's speeds look a lot different from each other

A good rule for turning kilobits into kilobytes is to just knock off the last digit.

Do you even know what a t1 line is? You have a very asymmetrical line which in my best guess is most likely a cable connection.

Just to make a small point, some people are unable to anything faster than 56k. Why you ask? Not everyone lives in a city. There is civilization outside of the stoplights and sidewalks and condominiums. Also the corporations that control the lines are reluctant to run those lines out where it will not help their bottom line.

Usually whan someone lags, heres what happenes;
-They pop around the battlefield due to the fact they are out of sync with the server.
-They sometimes tend to be bad shots because both them and the opponents on their screens pop around.
-The person may experiance the xbox of doom frequently when they lose contact with the server.
-They may experiance a period of time where the xbox appears and stays up. During this period they can not move anywhere, but can look around. The opponents keep moving on their path that they were on when the xbox comes on, but if the server is still sending information while the xbox is on; everyoen moves but you.
-If their ISP is really bad, they get dropped out of the game after a period of time, anywhere from a few seconds to an hour or more.

What can someone do with 56k? If your ISP is good enough, play in servers with few people and leave when it gets too laggy. If you ISP is so crappy that its more like 28.8k or less, you won't want to play online because of the fact you will get very frustrated. Also what you will need to do is turn off any programs like Instant Messangers and File Shaing programs.
