Well, after thinking about the brute dilemma I have decided on what I would prefer their behavior to resemble. You can’t just make them a warrior like an elite but with stronger melee. Instead, brutes should be predatory creators that use their environment with cunning animalistic ingenuity. Instead of them bouncing off walls when they get angry, they should try to find some way to cleverly move in for the kill, possibly by sneaking up on you.
Lets face it, who would you rather be in a fight with a man hunting you in the forest with a rifle, a panther silently tracking you and watching for a time to kill you, or a Dallas Cowboys linebacker. The linebacker is tough for a regular citizen, but not a gun-carrying super-marine. However, the panther, which to me is what a brute should be like, could get the drop on the chief and use its strength and animal ferocity to rip him apart. The man with the rifle, like an elite, is a foe that will require excellent mental combat to defeat, possibly forcing the chief into the role of a panther.
I know brutes need to use weapons and vehicles, but I rather see a few uber brutes dodging in and out of the shadows, triangulating my position, and cornering me, than a mass of brutes coming at me in the open firing plasma pistols. In-depth guerrilla warfare may not be the brute’s thing, and I know Bungie’s AI programmers are already pushing themselves to create something fun that works within the game engine. I am excited to see how brute intelligence has benefited from their hard work.
