My Halo game has encoutered a major error. At first this error stated "Gathering Exception Data." I quickly sent an error report and a patch was available to fix this. I downloaded the patch, which i believe was patch #4, and thought i was good to go. As soon as my halo began to load another error popped up that said "Cannot allocate required memory. Some other application has loaded where Halo needs to be located." I have tried EVERYTHING to fix this error. I have tried everything microsoft.com says which was a msconfig and looking for a file, meaya pop up killer, file name MK.DLL or MK2.Dll, i had neither of these files. I have tried many uninstallations and reinstallations but i get the same error after downloading the patch. I have also tried a system restore, a new halo disk, and suprisingly i tried my friends computer which is a newer Dell With XP home edidition and the same error popped up. My P.C is a dell with windows xp home eidititon, 512 GB ram, plenty of free virtual memory, and plent of free c. drive space. I have one program that would resemble anything of the X.P-S.P 2 and the program is "Winodws XP hotfix (SP 2) [see Q39115 for more information.]" The strange thing is that my Halo worked perfect one day then the Gathering Exception data error popped up the next. If you have any suggestions or ideas on what i should do please help. O and by the way i Downloaded the Halo trial demo and it worked perfect. Thanks for your time and please say something even if you have no idea what this is, but if you know how to help or have any suggestions please respond as well.

post your specks: all of them.
just so you know, the graphics on a demo are often reduced from the actual game. for example, i can run the doom 3 demo i downloaded, but i'll be -blamed- if the real thing would work on my PoS pc.
also, the patch that's out now is 1.5 try getting that (in your c:/program files/microsoft games/halo directory there is a program called haloupdate.exe, or something like that. if you run that, it'll give you the latest updates) it's suposed to have a fix for winXP SP2, which by the way, you do have
also, it's a little hard to understand, did you uninstall and reinstall halo? if you didn't, you should try that(note: you have to run haloupdate.exe after you reinstall halo)
finally, if all else fails, try microsoft tech suport. when you insert your CD into your comp, it brings up an autorun with a code number. you'll need that code

I did both of your suggestion, and i have gotten a little bit farther. I reinstalled Halo then ran the update.exe and then tried the haloded file, or hotfix 1.05, and now it says
C:\documents and settings\Matt\Desktop\strings.dll is missing. Now how to i get that string.dll file back????? ooo and thank you for your reply i greatly appreciate it

if not, i'd try the rienstall button on the autorun (again). make sure to check the 'repare corruptedf files' button, and run it. it should take about 2 seconds, as it will only fix corupted files, such as ur strings.dll file

run virus scans, dll is part of your system registry. See if you cant locate the file in the recycle bin. . When you did it on your friends comp. did you use your disc or does he have the same error by coincidence? Use a process of elimination. A system restore only restores your computer to an earlier time. However if you lost this .dll file because of a vius then a restore wont bring it back. If you reinstall windows xp then you can keep all your files. But i would delete that copy of halo if thats the only game your having a problem with, and install with a different copy. If that didnt work you will need to reformat the entire harddrive and start from scratch. That will definatly work!

I stuck too - ive done everything microsoft have said and it never workd for me know - it ran fine for around two months and I would play for hours but I will be lucky if I even see the game options screen! before the error pops up - I have tried everything and don't think that it can be fixed as I have read through different peoples problems with halo and they are all so different that it seems that they have abit of a problem on their hands and they are not trying that hard to resolve it. I am shelving the game until they show signs of really cooming out with a fix that will work for everyone.
my system is
AMD 3000+ XP - 512MB RAM - 128MB NVEDIA GEFORCE - 120 GB HD - 1.5MB CONNECTION

SEEMS TO ME THAT THE BOOK IS BEING PASSED AROUND AND NOONE WANTS TO TAKE THE BLAME FOR A COMPLETLY MESSED GAME

"Oh noes your BULLET SPAMMING me with your assault rifle"

---High Commander Frogger
---Captain of the Elites

i would just reload halo

Wish i could help you huys, but i have the same problem!! Almost every time im playin halo on line my game either crashes without reason or comes out of the game with a little box saying "Gathering exception data"!! To be quite frank it is pissing annoying!!! If ne of u or ne 1 else works out how to gwt rid of this problem plz let me know!! Oh yeah just to let you know ive also installed the 1.05 patch and have sp2, but lookin and various other forums iv determined that they don't seem to be the problem!!

Phaps its some sort of new virus? But i expect is more likely to be a glitch!!

ok
If you seriously need SP2 for some important reason, then keep it, and go and find the Halo SP2 patch. Or if you really don't need SP2, and you want to play Halo get rid of Sp2 and go back to Sp1.
I seriously am scared of downloading service pack 2 cuz I don't halo to screw up. I dont need it anyways.

Me?... I'd be stopping with the chat and getting on with a format! It would take a lot less time than 'trying' to find a remedy... Just put all updates and everything like that on BEFORE you install Halo... Problem solved.
