Not that I mind, but why the hell do they carry grenades but never use them (I'm speaking of the Combat forms of course). I had to post this here, "The Library" is a little "under construction".

My guess would be just to provide you with ammo, so the game isn't impossible... How would you like to do anything after 343 without frags? Or the library without any grenades? Would not be a fun day for me thats for sure.

they dont throw grenades because they are magically incapable of throwing them. The second they try, they implode in a burst of flames and electricity. Thats just for plasma nades tho, if they tried to throw frags, they would change colors rapidly and start to float up uncontrollably and then when they are high in the air, they turn into mystical nymphs that cannot fly and so they plummet to thier deaths as they cast thier nymph magic to make flashy magical attempts that entertain us as they struggle to not die and then they hit the ground and make funny little poppping sounds as they die. The reason they still carry them is that they like the taste of the grenades, they are like jawbreakers for the infection forms to gather energy from while they are inside a corpse.

probably the ammo part is the realistic out of game answer, however an explanation that would still mesh with the glory of the halo would be that the combat forms are converted marines and elites, these converted forms at one time carried grenades on their bodies, however, since the tentacles of the flood form are only coordinated enough to blindly flail at you I doubt they would be able to pull the pin on an HE nade or push the button on a plasma, forget throwing the thing accurately.

it was a good answer
probably dont throw em cos their hands are so messed up from the infection, sure they can wield guns etc but do the still retain fine motor nueron skills for say pulling the pin out? i dunno but that seems like the answer to me

I'll be on my own side.

well its a good thing that the Flood dont throw grenades, because in the numbers that the attack you (hence the name Flood),they would all be throwing nades and you would quickly be blown to bits and pieces.

I think that the Flood, although they may be smart, lack common sense. I mean, have you ever seen one of them try to shoot you with an assault rifle?

  • 05.25.2004 10:14 PM PDT

The entire fleet is engaged Cortana, with respect what the hell sorta reinforcements have you got?

well basically during the flood transformation they obliviously forgot the basics of working the grenades, so heres whathappens when the combat forms try to work it out:
1. they find a grenade
2. they nitice a pin that is detachable
3. they remove the pin
4. they try to find out what it is supposed to
5. nearby combat forms gether, intreaged by this strange ball
6. BOOOOOM!
7. see thats why, they dont live long enouth to figure out what to do with them

All the answers above seem valid.
1. Gives you ammo throughout the level so your not stuck with no grenades
2. Grenades from the dead corpses of the marines and elites.

I reckon all those are the answer along with one other.

The Flood always seem to be evolving and becoming more intelligent. When you first meet them they don't carry (or use) weapons. Yet by the end of the game they know how to use the guns quite well. They carry the grenades so they can eventually figure it out. If the game lasted a level or two longer (through the flood) then the flood will probably have worked out grenades.

No the real reason is that Bungie did not have time to finish the A.I of the Flood. For example, they are able to fix a Covenant Cruiser but not drive vehicles? Also in the books we are told they are smart and can adapt quickly, this is also said in the Library where the Monitor talks about how in a few hours they have worked out how to use our weapons.

They will be much smarter in Halo 2

Plus with the ones that have arms...theyd probably break off when they fling the grenade forward....

If the Flood are in Halo 2, some more advanced flood forms might throw them. As for why they don't throw them now, I'm sure there's a reasonable explanation for that in game, but I don't have it. Although if you want to speculate the flood might not recognize them as actual weapons, they probably would have figured it out given a bit more time. Nevertheless we should all be happy they didn't. It's also possible using grenades never actually fit with their tactics, as most forms would probably run into them after throwing them.

Something that always got me as strange (although I am quite grateful for it) is that no Hunters ever appeared to actually become part of the flood.

As with any parasitic commandeering of the host (from science fiction), the invader almost always absorbs memories from its host. Therefore the Flood know things. If I'm not mistaking, that's why Keyes is all cocooned up like he is. Besides I can almost swear that I was hit with a frag just yesterday on the Library(Legendary).

Just my opinion.

I would think its because they cant see you. they have no eyes, and they can detect you by smell. I dont have a clue.

I think that they're just too stupid to use them. I mean, the only thing that they're concerned with is ripping the crud out of every living thing they see, and they're not smart enough to use explosives (Other than rockets.)

I think that they dont because if they did the body would be ruined for an infection form to take over

Here is a better question! WHY DON'T ELITES THROW GRENADES UNTIL THE SECOND TO LAST LEVEL?
