We all have talked about it before. How disappointed would you be if Halo 2 did not support up to 3 guests on Live for 4 player split screen online? Personally I would be really disappointed, I have grown accustomed to the fun of having my friends right next to me to play with through XBC.

Not at all, It's not a smart idea, you lose profits because people can just go to people's house to play on live. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't even have 1 guest. A game this expected to be this large, would YOU risk losing the profit with competition like Sony or Nintendo?

Hmmm I dunno, I think Halo is so large that people will get it regardless of whether their friends have it or not. I mean, they can't play unless their friend has it then and I think people will want to play Halo when ever they can. I could see this being a bigger problem with less known games because if a friend has it and you don't have the urge to play it that often, then it doesn't bother you that you can only play when your friend can.

I would cry...and it's not pretty when a fat guy cries. I would miss have my 3 buds sittin' there playing right along my side. I would even miss the neverending, annoying "screen peeking".

I would probably kill someone, probably yea. Its a must. The whole point of Halo is to get together with friends and smoke jokes, if you couldnt than it would suck major ass. Dont think it will happen

During the conference or something, there is an 30min video all about new improvements to XBox live and it states you will be able to have 3 guests ... i think. I know i have read somewhere officially at least where it has been stated guests will be allowed.

Yeah that would be totally -blam!- if you can't have 4 people per tv on live. If it's not at least 2 I will be sooo pissed. You for damn sure better be able to have 4 per box on system link! Bungie, don't screw this up please. When yall announced that you can have 16 xboxs on lan and at least 16 people(maybe more, but that's not confirmed) I got really scared b/c that makes me think of games like rainbow six. For those type of games you have to have 4 tvs and 4 xboxs and 4 copies of the game just to have a decent 2 on 2. That is -blam!-!

While I'm not sure the word "-blam!-" best describes it, you have a very sound concern. Taking away split screen from LAN (sorry if too off topic) would be extremely disheartening. I think a lot of us have become quite acustom to the split screen, especially as far as LAN games.

No split screen in Xbox live? I'll live.

No split screen in LAN? Well, the chances of my survival are minimal.

Yea theres so many games like that 2, just a few disappointments i can name off the top of my head: crimson skies (2ppl only per tv), unreal championship (same).... and my #1 game i hate on system like is CLONE WARS. Me and my friend bought clone wars hoping to get 4v4s going on but u can only play 1 person per box on its system link >.< it was total BS! I love halo and i think the reason it rocked so much was because it allowed for that many ppl on one tv for system link!

There would be no reason to remove split-screen from LAN, it won't happen. Bungie isn't stupid. Now, as far as 4-player Live, I'd love it, but I won't die if it doesn't happen. The reason? Have you ever played UC, it sucks balls when you have four people at once. The framerate is horrible, and the details are worse. Now, I know Halo 2 is a whole other ballpark, but no game, in my mind, has done split-screen Live well. It seems like it may be too taxing, but maybe Halo 2 will prove me wrong. I hope so.

I think it sucks to have live guests. It could create lag. (i dunno how, it could though)

I think the problem with 4 player in UC lies completely in local XBOX FPS (frames per second, not first person shooter :P ) issues and not lag, so as long as Halo 4 player split screen runs smoothly there shouldn't be a problem with 4 on live. In fact 4 players on one box for live should be less laggy than 4 players on different boxes in different locations. The main problem with lag is upload. If as host has to be negotiating with multiple boxes it slows how much raw data can be sent to each box. If the host only has to worry about negotiations with 1 box all the upload can go to that one box. With multiple boxes the host has to have more routing information and send the same packet multiple times but to different clients. If its all on one box the host only has to send it once. You can see the results by playing on XBC and see how much better the lag is when the players are clumped into as few boxes as possible. 4 players on one box in XBC runs very smoothly (framerate wise). So as long as 4 player split screen runs fine in terms of FPS it should work great online.

Read the post I just made (I know it wasn't there when you posted), the lag would actually be better with guests instead of multiple locations.

Yes, I know that lag mostly relies on the host's upload, and generally it needs to be 128 kb/s per player correct? I used to know more when I played on XBC, but it's been a while. And now that I think about it you're probably right, it most likely a local issue with UC. Hopefully Halo 2 supporst multiple guests, then we can all be happy.

Yeah 128 per player/box tends to cover your bases pretty well.

you need 128 kb/s per box and if you cant have 4 one a box on live i will not even get live. There are a whole lot of people on xbc who wont play live if you cant play with 4 on a tv so how much money would microsoft lose then. 4 on one tv on live an absolute must.

I'm willing to bet there are plenty of people that will play on Live even without gues support. I'm one of them, although I'd love guest support, if it's not there, it's not gonna keep me from experiencing awesomeness.

Halo 2 should definately support 3 guests, that way I can play live together with my friends sitting around me, screaming, shouting and jumping in the sofa.

This is also a superp way of promoting Halo 2, Xbox and Xbox Live to friends who thinks of buying it, but want to try it first.

Another thing which is important to remember: "It's good to play together"

It would eb great to have three guests but the problems are technical. Xbox live is available to anyone with broadband and so the options available have to work with the worst compatible connection.

Lots of live games have 1 guest (correct me if i'm wrong) but 3 guests means your getting just one quarter of the bandwidth you could get in One player.

The average broadband connection in the UK is probably 512k, with a 256k upload. Which provides good play for one or two people. Having four people sharing that connection would only give them 56k each.. Lag would become a real problem.

I have no real knowledge of the exact limitations but i'd imagine 4 player lagless on one broadband connection would be tecnically very difficult. Bungie may surprise me but i think 1 guest is likely but 3 isn't.

Of course, if people had upload speeds such as 1meg this problem wouldn't exist. It is perhaps possible that the game could sense your upload speed and then limit you to none, one or three guest depending on your connection.

Anyway, i think bandwidth rather than FPS is the problem.

frames is a problem.... as well as bandwidth... i think theyre both the problem, but i think, we should still have the option to have at least 1 guest.... because 2 player halo is boring unless your playing co-op, and even that does get old, but if you have 3 or more people, its all good! One of my great concerns is the system link, i recently got Rallisport 2.... and it's four player split screen.. 1 player LIVE (which is a shame) and 1 player per box.. (which is absolutely appalling) if halo did the same thing i'd have to shoot something, and not just in the game!!! ( i only have a 256 , 128) thats probably standard in Australia...

i think that it will be just 16 players max in any configuration that you want. If you have one box that has 4 people, that means that you can only hook up 12 more single person boxes, If you have a configuration of a 4person box 3 two playerboxes and one 3 person box then you could only have 3 single player boxes which brings the total boxes to 8 boxes.

Also bungie has been talking about making live like playing with your buddies, i can't imagine why they would exclude your buddies from the process

I would be ticked if they didnt allow any guests. One guest would be alright, but the more the better.

Forget having guests...tell them to get live and their own mic. I want a screen to myself...and I hate playing live with the guy who has a guest because his guest doesn't have a microphone and they are always the ones messing up...so Bungie don't include guests on Xbox Live...these people will still buy your game and you'll be making the right decision

Most of you people probably don't even have Xbox Live...if you did this probably would not be that big of a deal to you...my room mate and I both have live...he sits in his room and plays on his 19" TV and I sit in my room and play on my 27" TV...and I don't ever need to see him face to face because I can talk to him with my mic...so you guys get real and tell your friends to go get live.
