Subject: Do you hate Groups PMing you

Posted by: WolfmanMaverick
You people have just sent my sides into orbit. A bunch of MLG try hards sucking the dick of some supposed pro half the thread hasn't even heard of. Classic.

They don't really bother me at all. I will read them and move along. If one catches my eye I might see what the group has to offer. If they are persistent I just block them.

Erepublik: Save the world from oppression!

It really depends. If someone sends me some random group that they say is "Everything Halo", I hate them. I can't stand those "We talk about all things halo" groups. However, if it's a specialized group that has an original theme that it revolves around, and I am intrested, I will join and thank them for sending me a PM. But how often does that happen? :/

Check my profile. First line.
I still get Invite PMs. So far, seven blocks, and they ain't ever getting off that list. As far as I'm concerned, the only good group is a quiet group.

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

I don't really get that many. Even if I did get a lot of them, I would read them, then delete them. They don't really bother me.

(10:19:49 PM) Scruss: oh and pezza, i saw what you did to that cat
(10:20:17 PM) Pezza: You were the one with the video camera breathing heavily. Of course you saw.

I get them every so often. I hate them for the most part, they just need to be in the classifieds.

I agree. Always make it personal.

I don't mind it, heck, it's how I found some pretty cool groups!

What I don't like though is the copy/paste cookie cutter messages that they throw in there when they see someone's name came up a few times in the main forums.

If you send an invite, at least make it tailor-made for the person. Or, I dunno, something more personal than a "Hi Insert user name here I've seen you post in the forums and I think you'd be an excellent addition to our group! Please join."

It depends. I hate the:

"Hi! I would like you to join my group...."

Invites. The automated, cookie cutter templates. But, if the person knows me to a degree, and made an attempt to personalize it a bit, and interest me, I'll give it a chance.

It would be a pain in the ass if you were an admin and you were to invite different members not using a resource copy/paste template.

I'm not going to pretend, I do invite as much members as I can to help out the chapter and I do use a copy/paste template. However I make sure that the template is not boring (has a feeling or emotion to it). I edit the template often so it varies.

Exactly. A set of guidelines for recruiting people into chapters:

1. Use PMs, not forums.
2. Only PM those you know to some degree and have seen around very often.
3. Personalize! Don't use a template, make it their own!
4. Interest them! Cater to them! Don't just say "Join my group cuz its cool!", give them details, make them an offer! If you're one of the first ten people to join a group of mine, I give you an immediate promotion! Little touches like that!
5. Make sure you're dealing with the right person. If you're trying to recruit people into a Marathon group, don't invite someone who's never played Marathon!

Feel free to add if you think of any others, guys.

It's all well and good. It's all preferance. I prefer it if people didn't just copy/paste and send, but that's just me.

It's just that there's a better chance I'll join a group because someone thinks I'd be interested, as opposed to making it seem like they just want more members in their group.

6. Never invite a moderator. (speaking from experience)

"And so here at the end of my life, I do once again betray a former
master. The path ahead is fraught with peril. But I will do all I can
to keep it stable - keep you safe. I'm not so foolish to think this
will absolve me of my sins. One life hardly balances billions. But I
would have my masters know that I have changed. And you shall
be my example." -Mendicant Bias

I don't mind group PM's at all, generally. I don't particularly like templates, but I know how much work it takes to make each message personal. Whenever I get an invite, I check out the group, I give each group a chance. However, invites that have been poorly constructed, I tend to disregard them completely.

I often send out invites for my own group. I use a base template, which contains quite a lot of information about the group. However, I always try to personalise it, with a paragraph or two directed towards the individual member, to try and appeal to he/she more, and so they don't feel that they are "just another member", but instead feel that they are being treated as an individual.

I love them because they make me feel special.

You do realize it's a copied-and-pasted message sent to everyone the messenger sees, right? At least, nine-out-of-ten times it is.

I used to not mind, but now they're getting annoying. I'm able to refrain myself from starting a flame-war, though, because it is one of the most (if not thee most) effective ways to recruit. So I understand them and just ignore them. I hate that feeling in my stomach I get after I see "join my group plz heres link" from someone anonymous instead of a P.M. from a friend, though...so dissapointing.

Unless you're a friend, then there's a 90% chance I won't even read more than five words.

I flamed this guy once for sending me a pm. Know what his response was?

"How about you try getting 50 members in 3 months without using PMs".

Hell I joined and there were like half of them who didn't know how to link your GT or other novice stuff. Why do people think it's quantity and not quality? Fools.
