Everybody here loves Halo, right? But I don't like the storyline... it's too 1 dimensional. So I wanna know what other games you guys play with good storylines...

For me, the top two games for storyline have to be Marathon, by our very own Bungie, and Dark Reign. I can't remember the number of times I've read through the story for Dark Reign and just wished there was more game to play.

I love Halo's storyline, that's the reason I got the game (have you read the books?).

But everyone to themselves like . . . .

I really like the story to Half-Life. A scientist goes to work one day and all hell breaks loose when he accidentally opens the door to another dimension. It's very mysterious and there is still a whole lot of stuff that hasn't been explained.

Ico was another great game. A boy is outcast from his villiage because he is born with horns, and the only way to keep his village safe is for him to be sacrificed to the gods. He is taken to a castle, and awaits death. He escapes from his prison when he envisions a girl in a dream. She turns out to be real, and in need of help. You must solve puzzles to find the exit out of the castle, until you discover the evil queen. You don't learn much about the characters, but the story was really well done. Also very mysterious.

Halo's story is OK. And we haven't seen Halo 2 yet. It's gonna be a whole lot bigger and better than Halo in every possible way.

I reckon the fact that OXM reacted badly to the ending of Halo 2 is probably a good sign. It suggests that the story won't be something different to your mainstream FPS.

To possibilities...

What did OXM rate Halo 2?

I've said it before, but it's still valid. If Halo 2's story is to Halo what Marathon 2 was to Marathon, everyone in the community is going to be very happy!

I agree with this man.

I love Halo's story, it seemed kinda shallow at first, but after reading the books I really got into it. Besides, I wasn't even expecting a damn storyline first time I played it, most FPSes don't even have one :/

Halo's story line is ok if you read the books. I've played so many games, though, I can't remember most of the story lines. I guess the FF series would have the best. I guess.

Final Fantasy has some good storylines, but I found that they get boring easily. It's pretty much the same thing over and over. Just, kill big bad guy and save the world. That's just my impression.

Exactly. And since the Halo novels and now ILB have hinted at rampant AI's in Halo2, its looking good.

Deus Ex had a damn good storyline. And KOTOR's is quite good as well I'd say...

Thankyou!!!! If you read the books... Unless the game comes with the books inside the box, or lists them as required reading (like a read me) before playing the game, it ain't gonna happen. In the case of most games you get the odd little bit of story in the manual, but for the most part it's in the game. If you want to add extra story because your story came out dodgy first go, then make another game or do an expansion. Books (whilst books are great and a good source of entertainment) do not cut it as far as computer games go.

I refuse to buy a computer game book on that principle. (except if they made one about theories for Marathon)

The point is, Halo's plot is the best I have ever seen! I can't wait to play the story of Halo 2 and read the new novel etc.!

Hmm... I'd say the whole Metal Gear series starting from 1987, and of course Shenmue I & II.

*From the games I have played*

My two best would have to be:

Descent Freespace 1 & 2 (loved by reviewers but not by the public)
Half-Life

No offense meant to you or Final Fantasy, but Marathon has the best story ever, then it's Myth.
