We all know that the needler's melee was horrible in Halo.

We all know that there will be combos in Halo 2.

Assuming Bungie is, in fact, reading the forums, I'd like to put forth an idea I've had since I first played Halo and used the needler:

Don't give the needler a combo. I've always thought that since you end up smacking your opponent with the needle side of the needler, that if you connect, all the needles should stick into your opponent and after a second or two, explode.

Now, I think this is a good idea for a few reasons:

1. As there is a balance for every aspect of the arsenal, there is balance here. If you hit your enemy, you lose a whole clip of ammunition, requiring you to reload. This would be in addition to having a slow melee time, making it harder to connect AND requiring a couple seconds on the tail end to reload. (not mentioning the danger in meleeing away your last clip of ammo, if it were to come down to that.)

2. This gives at least one weapon in the arsenal some ability to contend with the plasma sword, having a one-hit kill capability.

3. Since there would be no combo, weapons that DO have a combo have a chance in melee against the needler, since you would just need to watch out for that one power swing.

I'm sure there can be other balances for this, but this is all I can come up with at the moment. Feel free to add your own ideas for other weapons, too.

Cheers.

your words are beyond your years my son but the problem is that the needler is a covanant weapon and so is the plasma sword. that would be bad news for master chief because now he has two weapons that can kill him in one shot.

Ace has a good point. But also, if your opponent knew he was stuck, all he would have to do is stay close to you and either take you down with him or injure you considerably.

It still is a good concept, though. It makes sense to have the needles stick and it would make interesting multiplayer situations. Almost a kamikaze situation... Stick your teammate and push him into a crowd of opponents. Explode and weaken everybody in radius and then take out the stragglers. That would be awesome.

ok here's an idea. how about the needler would have a very powerful meele attack but the needlers won't stick in the opponent. kind of like umm the loading of the weapon allow it to go into the weapon but not come out of the top. well it's a kind of rough explination that i can't really find the words to articulate well enough but i think you get the idea of what i'm trying to say

Yes. Definitely correct. Especially since Elites are going to bash much more often in Halo 2 and needlers.... well, they're very common. It would get frustrating very quickly.

what if the force of the blow made the needles explode on impact? making it like a suicide attack! if not, the guy using the needler would either have to relode or switch weapons cause hes out of ammo in the clip so it wouldnt be terribly unfair as long as the melee speed stays SLOW, as in you miss the first time you're dead

Hey, I got an idea. how 'bout when you hit an enemy with the needler, the needles would stick(but not explode). And the needles would stick for the rest of that guy's life, and when he runs into a wall with the needles, the needles dig deeper into his armor, causing big damage. HOOAH!

im not sure exactly how the needler works but i have a pretty good idea. on the level 343 guilty spark you see needler clips laying on the ground.folowing up on what ace said the clips are like pink blocks that are pressed down and pushed out the top(i assume).so it would require the needles to break off the gun. But this still is a awsome idea that would make combat really fun.

Ya know you wouldnt have to just use it in single player this would be awsome for multiplayer.

the damage should depend on how much ammo is in the clip
